Jay Nash

I wasnt overly impressed with Nash. He was towelled up early by a kid which didnt help his cause early on and his big numbers were due to 80% of the game being played in our back 50 for 3 qtrs.

I'd cut him some slack on his defending becuase as you say 80% of the game was played in their half.

It doesnt look too good when a 3rd gamer in his first season is getting away from you early on.

I remember when a 17 year old Justin Murphy gave a bomber brownlow medalist a severe rogering back in 94. Sometimes guys just have a good day, it doesnt matter how experienced you are.

Nash showed composure while more seasoned teammates continually truned it over.

Thats a pretty blunt comparison. Doesnt help Nash's cause with that observation. As I stated before the game, we required more experience in the centre against that seasoned lot and it showed.

And how is that the fault of Nash, did you expect a kid to hold up our defence when more senior guys couldnt?

The composure you're referring to was him being led to the ball and left behind which resulted in 3 goals being kicked on him...one indirectly admittedly. There was one incident where his opponent went for a contested mark as the 4th man (thankfully unsuccessfully) and he watched as his opponent from 5 metres behind. I had actually missed this until the replay captured the angle from the other flank. Again, it didnt look good for him.

I expected him to be able to match his much younger opponent, if not beat him. Simple as that. Albeit, he had 15 mates for the first 3 qtrs also.

how bout composure with the footy? The guy isnt Mick gayfer mate he's an attacking HBF/midfielder. If your looking for a guy who will keep an opponent kickless then you've got the wrong guy.

Incidently, I hope the kid learns from this, but I could see it coming against a hardened midfield outfit in Port. They had so much to play for, (bad press, frustrated fans, Tredrea's 200th and poor form) and I didnt think it was the right game for Nash's confidence in trying to stake his claim in our 22.

I cant wait to see the difference in his game when we play against Melbourne, theyre still a bunch who are looking to gel and he can really make his mark after our break. Just hope Sheeds agrees and retains him for that game.

He had no choice, but to defend against that avalanche early on. I just didnt expect his opponent to be able to gather the ball so cleanly and under almost no pressure so early in the game. By the way, Im not discussing his ball handling...its his accountability for his opponent which brought about this topic. Blind Freddy can see he has quick hands and a nice penetrating kick.

I think most of us saw this coming unfortunately. Port are currently leasing essendon with an option to buy. I don't think Nash starred but he was far from our worst.

I think we got a glimpse of what he could be late last year when he gave us some real dash off a back flank. thats his go, running forward and creating.

I said he should be cut a little slack due to the amount of ball he had to deal with. I never said he was blameless and needs to work on some things.

I agree, he wasnt our worst and was great to see him join in when we rallied in the final term and show some of his talent. Maybe he was over-awed by the tempo early on or he he positioned himself incorrectly. Anyways, thats how I saw it and we do have a problem against Port at the moment. 9 from the last 10 I think it is now. Why Port!!

Exactly. We have been looking for him to be another running HBF. I thought he played really well. Was consistent the whole game, not like some others who just bobbed up when we were going well in the last qtr. Hopefully he can string together a few games and keep his spot in the side when Stants, Lovett and NLM come back.

i've been impressed with his work just about every time i've seen him play. i remember the game he played against collingwood in round 20ish last year was great. it's a shame he's been injured this year.

i don't think he'll be a defender. i'm not sure of his aerobic capacity, but i can see him playing in the midfield in the coming years. his disposal is excellent, off both feet.

he played well, but don't forget he was on gray in the first half. it's alright to go and get the ball, but he needs to be better defensively. you can't let a third gamer kick 4 goals on you in a half

He was certainly on Gray in the first quarter and some of the second (gets a bit confusing after that due to rotations and the like). Being at the game I noticed this matchup early, even though it may not have showed up as clearly on TV.

Defensivly he probably let his man have a bit too much room at times but seemed OK on the rebound.

EDIT: I might just add that of the 2 goals Gray kicked in the first, one was a freak goal involving spins and a touch of magic (not much Nash could do), while the other was the direct result of a stupid kick in from fletcher that went right to him - so cant blame Nash for either goal really .... altohugh he did get away from Nash on a couple other ocasions.

Just love watching him play. Just needs an injury free run for the rest of the season.

Form permtting I wouldnt mind this by the end of the season: ;)

Centres: Nash Dyson Winderlich
Rucks: Layock Stanton Watson

Might have to chuck Slattery in their for some accountability.
