I love Schulz but $1 million over 2 years seems a fair bit of dough to throw at somebody his age. Good luck to him though.

$1 million/3 years seems like a better deal, structured like this:

Year 1 - $400K
Year 2 - $350K
Year 3 - $250K

Gives him the security and respect he deserves, without overpaying as he ages.

Schulz has had four straight 100 mark/40 goal seasons, and has missed just two games in the past three seasons. He's fit and a hard worker, so I don't see why he couldn't continue to produce at around a 100 mark/30 goal rate in a secondary role (assuming Port gets Charlie Dixon) over the next few years, while continuing to bring heart, leadership and experience to the Power group as well.

If pav plays on, Schulz will be the 2nd best kpf! Anyway, I really like Schultz, but if we are offering 1m for 2 seasons for a 30 year old forward, I would be amazed if anyone bettered that in the PSD. My comments are not meant to be perceived as downgrading his worth, rather should be viewed in the context of a commercial, cut-throat AFL environment. I hope we get him to freo next year.

Psd lol and freo should not be in the same sentence. Brisbane, melbourne and carlton would love an experienced forward to help there youngsters for 2 yrs, all with massive salary cap space. Will be a trade or nothing.

I doubt it.

If all port has to gain is a pick they won't use as we will likely upgrade two rookies .. And freos pick 55 would only be rookie upgrades or teams passing. Port has a fourth rounder that will probably not see many live picks if any after freos third.

In that case we might as well send Schulz to the psd and make freo risk losing him elsewhere. He could get to freo but what do we care if he does or doesn't .

Who from port is blaming Jay. He's been given a better offer by the sounds and has earn't a final payday.

That doesn't equate to bending over to Freo though - apparently offering 500k for a third rounder. Port will be after a pick it can use or assistance in landing other trades (which may be easier).

Obviously Ross sees the value in a second target to try and squeeze another year out the list of perhaps help while the next crop develop.

Schulz wants a better deal then at port. Port have another forward coming our way so are in a position where we can let him go.

We are talking about freo downgrading a pick from 37 to 47 to get a key forward so they can have a crack at a premiership before they retire a bunch of good players.

go after another key forward if you think that's too much to pay ...

That's why you can have our third rounder. If you want to keep him, give him a competitive contract. If Port don't like it, then he can go to the PSD. If another team picks him up, then so be it.
