Whats the go with Van Berlo....not listed on injury list...hasn't yet suited up for the garlic munchers even though he won their Fairest & Best last season.

Is he injured?..playing Wafl ressies?

Or do they just not list rookies on injury lists?

I think it's option 3. Pretty sure I heard / read someone saying this past weekend that when van Berlo returns from injury he'll strengthen the Joondies side... I think I also read somewhere at the start of the WAFL season that he had some sort of leg injury, but can't remember details. Does that help?

Ask Swannies at the WAFL forum. If he doesn't know then no one does [outside the club that is]

"Joondies"???? WTF??? "Jooooooooooondies"??? Come one Ipppy.. it's West Perth Cardinals thank you - playing just near Alfred Cove, if I rememer rightly, with some bloke called Fong as their star player.

aaawww come on... it wasn't that bad. :p
Basically, it was my (rather verbose) way of saying he has been injured, but they are talking of him returning for WP, so he must be close to playing....
Is that better?? ;)

Nope. Unless you meant playing WAFL, not AFL, in which case ignore the rest of my post. Heck, just ignore my post anyway...

Ain't no way Van Berlo is going to play AFL this year unless he gets ahead of Pratt. We have only one more rookie to promote this year, and even that promotion can only happen after round 11 unless we get a long term injury before then.

As I've said elsewhere, what sh*ts me - I mean reallllly, seriously sh**ts me - about this is that if we'd ditched Browne, Head and Thornton last year, DeBoer, Borughton and Pratt would be on our senior list already, with Sibbo and Van Berlo or Pearce romoted as rookies already. As a result of keeping the three hacks, only one of Pratt, Sibbo, Van Berlo or Pearce can get promoted this year. What's the bet the others play 150+ games for the Gold Coast??

Add to that Peter Menaglio and the Bewick and Duckworth bro's(John and Billy, that is)

Hey guys

I spoke to Jay's father Gary on Saturday night at a wedding (to be honest I didn't even know who he was until we got chatting). Jay has stress fractures in his shins which is why he is not playing for West Perth at the moment.

Actually he told me quite a few things about Jay and Nathan. If anyone is interested in what he said, just let me know.

And no, I am not having a GJ moment. I don't know the family at all, we just happened to be at the same wedding.

I think it will be a tight tussle between Jay & Pearce when a long injury comes (touch wood)...every team has them at some stage of the season....I just think Jay is a ready made midfielder in the Afl....something we are crying for & he could quite quickly skip ahead of Crowley as a tagger if given opportunity.

Did someone mention Phil "Spok" Bradmore and Ben Jager?
I could have swore someone did. May it was Niel Palm or Brian Adamson at dinner the other night around Ross Gibbs house.
Thats what we need, some Cardies inspiration. You know it's right!:thumbsu:

Hey guys

I have received a bit of interest in what Van Berlo's parents had to say on the weekend. My mailbox has been pretty full since my last post (limited to 5 messages total) - so I will copy and paste here what I have been saying to everyone else.

Well firstly, there is another young Van Berlo coming through. I can't remember his first name, but he is currently playing under 16s for the Cardies.

First the bad news. Both Gary Van Berlo and his wife Jenny are eagles supporters - been member for 8 years now. I asked him if he was going to revoke that membership now that his son plays for a real West Australian team - but it looks like I got no where with that ;)

Something interesting about Nathan - Woosha (yes more eagles stuff!) tried to contact him in the pre-season. Colin Young (who is also Jay's manager) said Nathan has already signed with Adelaide for another 3 years. Woosha said that's OK, I still want to speak with him, in which Colin replied, let me speak to Nathan and I will see if he wants to talk to you (Gary's exact words!). Nathan wasn't interested (unsurprisingly) - according to Gary, Nathan is touted as the next Crows captain so there is not much chance of him ever leaving Adelaide.

And now for the most important one - Jay. To be honest not much was said about Jay - firstly Gary spoke about his accolades with West Perth over the last couple of years. Something interesting Jenny said - her words- "I think Jay is a much better player than Nathan. Nathan has a tank - he can just keep running all day without stopping - but that's Nathan. Jay can play the game better" - very interesting coming from a mother!
Gary just said - well they are two different players and both are required in any team - but agreed in saying Jay had better footy skills and was harder at the ball.

So that's pretty much what I remember - if anything else props up I will let you know! Apologies if you were hoping for more, but weddings + beer = for me otherwise I would have asked a hell of a lot more questions. How often do you get to talk to a Freo players' parents?! Once a lifetime for me!

Regards
PV

Thanks PV, nice piece of wedding espionage.

Funny how you can't change who people support. I know a guy who played for the dockers in the Neesham days who was and still is a Carlton supporter. There's no way of flushing out bad taste.

Another way of looking at that is that playing for Neesham at the Dockers would likely have made his support for Carlton even stronger.
