What in god's name is going on with this guy? Had his fair share of injuries last year so that's fair enough but I have barely heard a peep about him all year. Hardly a word written or spoken about him in any of the reserves reports by anyone at the club and those usual reserves watchers on here.

Anyone have any insight? As far as I know he's been uninjured and has played almost all if not all reserves games. Hasn't appeared in the bests list once.

Looks like another Daniel O'Keefe in the making.
I like Jed Lamb but the dread is that he may become another Willoughby (2003), O'Keefe (2006), Veszpremi (2007) or Johnston (2008). Our 2004+2005 first round picks were traded.

If bedford's worst fears are realised he may become another McVeigh (2002)

Lamb is down on confidence at the moment but whether he is also carrying a slight niggle should not be discounted.

As BarneyBent already mentioned he showed promise last year, in his 2 stints separated by a long injury break. His first games in 2011 were spent as a forward pocket in which he proved deadly in his one-on-one battles and accurate in his set shots. He kicked 6 against GWS in a preseason reserves game and I remember watching at the time and thinking that he was toying with the defenders and had the ball on a string. His second spell near the end of the season was predominantly in the midfield as an inside mid but I didn't see any of it as I was away. By all reports he was very good in this role as well, effective in his clearance work as well as ball use.

This year he has spent a lot of time in the midfield but has looked out of sorts. His ball use has been poor and is struggling to deal with the pressure applied by the opposition's tacklers. He doesn't have the body physique to deal with the bigger bodies at the moment and he doesn't have the leg speed required to create separation from the other players.

IMHO the coaches need to try him elsewhere in the short term, even if it's just to boost his confidence levels. Perhaps a return to the forwards where he can work his magic and kick a few goals could do wonders for his game. I think he works best when he plays with a bit of spunk, some FIGJAM attitude that perhaps has been drummed out of him by the Swans' hierarchy. Right now, he's just a slow, skinny kid with average disposal and limited vision - very much a peripheral figure in the reserves.

Ouch. Not what I wanted to hear. But thank you.

So his disposal by foot has been pretty poor this year? I keep saying that I thought Meredith should have been placed on a HBF years ago in order to use his smooth kicking and pace to set up play (and also teach him how to defend) and I have thought the same could apply to Lamb. Might that be an appropriate use of his talent? Or at this stage would he be better used up forward?

Not saying he can't kick the ball but moreso his decision making. Poorly placed kicks not to his teammate's advantage and I've started to notice the odd floater sneaking in there (seniors are guilty of this too, especially kicking to our forwards)

Playing on the HBF - it's worth a try, anything but continuing the current set up and hoping that it suddenly corrects itself. Meredith did that the last game and was moderately successful, albeit he didn't have much actual defending to do.

So basically play the role Morton is currently doing to a much greater scale while getting no kudos from the coaches?

Assuming he gets through preseason without any hiccups, I would think almost certainly. He started to win some plaudits from the reserves coaches in the 2nd half of the year.

He's got a lot of work to do to find a spot in the seniors though. I'm assuming that he is competing with the likes of McGlynn, Morton, Jude, Rohan for a HF kind of role. Tough for a kid yet to debut.

lets be realistic. its his third season on our senior list. if the bloke cant break into the team and put pressure on others to be there then he wont be on the list next year. he will be traded or at the very least, rookie listed. he must make an impact this season

yes but ruckmen always take longer to develop and are given more opportuniy due to being harder to find. HF types are much easier to come by. i hope for his sake that he does find his way into the team. by all accounts he is a quality player, but so are the premiership 22.

yeah thanks guys. just curious as to his progression and congratulations on the premiership BTW. :thumbsu:

interesting that in his third season you have a bit of a test case i reckon with jed lamb how teams deal with players who by all accounts 'can play' but with list managements and cycles and timing being what they are that the success of your list dictates to some degree how a guy like him goes over the next season. funny really that it's basically a three-year apprenticeship when in almost all other trades it's a four-year thing.

personally i think that you guys will probably go back-2-back (sorry, no pressure o_O ) and that a bloke like lamb may find it very very challenging. it's just my opinion but i reckon if guys were to get a four year contract on draft day it's way more massive for the game. i mean they all want to play but some are just on the cusp after three and need that extra year to harden-up.?

anyway, will follow lamb's progress, cheers and congrats! :thumbsu:

What are your thoughts on this guy now? Will he get back in the 22 before seasons end?

Should not have been out of it last week in my (pointless and probably wrong) opinion. He has been solid and getting better week to week in the seniors.

Will struggle to hold a place if Rohan/Goodes/LRT/Reid etc start to come up and in fairness to him you would have to take Premiership players over him at his developmental stage into the finals.

Still he has been good and shown some promise but of course he is a baby with only 10 or so games under the belt but looks to have a career ahead of him.

If we had a complete injury free list he would not currently be top 22 in 2013.

he will probably ask to be traded at some point if he doesnt get in the 1st team consistantly next yr which may happen. and become a pretty handy player for the bulldogs or someone else..
