Would have thought Freo's first pick around 10-12 and would be surprised if impartial observers throught that around the mark.

After this year, where do we sign.
Though I think Jeff is just a little down on confidence and probably just adjusting to family life... He will come good and we all know he is a gun.
Pick 10 does sound a good deal, lets be honest. Not sure Freo would even consider letting their first pick go. It is Lyon we are talking about who loves to bring in players rather than looking to the draft.

Reckon he'd command a late first round pick.... Dees desperately need a small forward, but not sure what we'd have to offer the Blues in terms of picks/players

haha.
you need to take the "F" out of "WAY"
I have absolutely zero say on our trading & drafting, but I would bet lots on this not happening.
Oops I have just noticed that it wasn't you who suggested that, so the response is directed at the other poster.

Would love him at the dogs, we need a player like him! What would you carlton supporters want from the dogs?
Tom Liberatore, Clay Smith or Mitch Wallis. :p

I'd rather stick a skewer in my eyeballs than take Grant or Sherman.

I'm sure goreds will ask for Mark Austin back.

Finding a good goal sneak isn't much easier than finding a good key forward. Having a bit of a down year, but not alone in that regard. Surely the Blues would only entertain trading him if it were part of picking up a key forward. No point taking a draft pick (even if it's 10-12) because you're not going to get the top-level improvement you need right at the moment.

Can the Doggies trade the compensation pick they activated?

Not that I want to part with Garlett, but that would be a fair trade.

Pick 10 to 12 could get us one of the big mids we're looking to select in this draft. That's one area we're lacking with Carlton well served for inside and outside players in Lucas, Garlett, Yarran, Gibbs, Lucas, Bootsma, Collins, Armfield, Walker and Buckley. The Blues need another Robinson or two.

I'm not trying to troll here, but it seems like you guys have got massive list management issues and haven't really learnt from past mistakes. Specifically, knowing that it takes longer for different types of players to develop and not really drafting long-term developing players at the right times. Drafting for need at 10-12 for a big midfielder probably won't help you in the next three years. By the time that player is playing at the level you'd want (to be best 22 in a top 4 side) you'll have lost Scotland, and the likes of Judd and Carrazzo will be on their last legs. You should be looking to recruit somebody like Koby Stevens. Please don't though!

???
So we shouldn't draft young mids because some of our mids are ageing? Maybe we should give away our first pick for an established inside mid...that worked out well for us last time around.

For list balance Carlton will need to bring some young ball winners into the fold this year. Plenty examples of young AFL ready mids coming through in recent years...guys like Greene, Parker, Caddy, Shuey (post injury). We need more depth through the middle, not walk up top shelf talent.

If you need a capable big-bodied midfielder around the stoppages, then yeah, you shouldn't be expecting to fill that hole with a draft pick 10-12 if you've got any intent to win a flag in the next couple of seasons. On paper, picking up Brock McLean didn't seem like the worst plan at the time. The right idea was there - but just the wrong player.

After 2004 it was really clear the WCE needed a stronger more defensive edge to their midfield. We picked up Chick, and then Stenglein. (The Dockers picked up Headland and Carr in the same 2 years). Chick didn't play midfield, but he improved the balance of the side. Those guys ended up being the final pieces to the puzzle for us. If (hypothetically) they were both starting out and we'd been able to draft them instead, it wouldn't have helped us at all.

Trading Garlett for 10-12 to pick up a young midfielder won't help you.

Of course it could, in a number of ways. It might be that we select a player capable of making an immediate impact by adding to our midfield depth. It might be that we select a player that complements our next generation midfield of Murphy, ideally Gibbs, Robinson, Lucas and Buckley. It might be that we use that 10-12 to try and pick off an emerging talent like Caddy. That said this is all bollocks as no-one is giving us pick 10-12 for Jeff Garlett.

I think Garlett's getting undersold on this board. If you gave him a decent forward to crumb to and a competitive midfield then his form would be much better. Atm in form and in a good side I think he is the top 4-5 pockets in the AFL, what makes him about the most valuable is that there is still a lot of upside to his development. I wouldnt want Collingwood to go after him because we already have about 5 pockets, but I think both WA sides would be stupid not to have a look. Especially WC because it would enable Le Cra to play more in the mid when he gets back which could pay pretty big dividends imo. He is definitely worth a first rounder, maybe even 8-12 at the most.

Would love to have Gartlett in our forward line might be down on form a bit at the moment but is a star. Problem is we dont have anything to trade for him.

I'd love Jeff Garlett at the Dees, we haven't had a quality small forward since Aaron Davey first started. Carlton need a few more forwards, would someone like Petterd get a deal like this done? btw I love Ricky, he should be in the side!

1st round + Mitch Brown/Koby Stevens for 2nd round + Garlett?
That would be pretty fair and a win win for both parties I think.

From a Tigs point of you, I mentioned on our board I would be keen as mustard to get him but not sure we have anything to make it happen with that we could part with.

I think maybe Post & our second rounder for Jeff and a 3rd rounder? Or maybe no 3rd rounder?
