I heard a rumour that my SANFL club, Glenelg are talking to this former Geelong rookie. If he doesn't get drafted or rookied again that is. All I know is he is a ruckman. Can anyone else had anything else of interest to me and other Bays fans?

Jeff's got the body of a ruckman however he is more of a utility player. He is quite an athlete, very quick, but doesn't have the skills to be a full time ruckman or key position player. In the WAFL he played as a wingman despite being 6'6".

Just picture a 200cm version of David Clarke.
Very athletic,little ability,soft,goes A.W.O.L and never dominates a game.

BTW,he is supposedly a ruckman,but he didn't actually ruck a lot.He played a lot in defence.

I only saw him play once, in Bendigo at Easter, and he was moved into the ruck in the last quarter. Up until then Mark Blake won every hit out but unfortunately would hit it straight to the Bendigo Bombers players who flogged us out of the middle. When Smith was put into the ruck in the last quarter he again won every hit out but he'd hit it sideways, back over his head and so on. We started winning the centre clearances, but he only lasted 5 minutes before getting injured.

From what I saw he could play, but there's always more to it than just having the talent and physique.

Why would we let him go then if he was good in the ruck?

How is Blake going? Does he do well in the ruck or does he hit it to the opposition all the time?
