Hasn't been a whole lot to toast lately so I thought I had better take this chance while it was there.

We've all been praying for the Jeffy of 2011 to return and I thought he did and some on Saturday. Just did everything well and really influenced the game. Looked like his confidence is back and with it his clean ball handling and attack on both man and ball. Good stuff.

Got to give credit to Ratts here, although if our injury list had not been longer than the Old Testament Jeffy may well have been chopped at some point. Ratts admitted that they had considered it but obviously decided that tough love was not the right approach, positive affirmation was. Highlighting Jeffy's efforts against North in the Plays of the Week was a great example of this.

I thought that mark and goal of his in the dying moments of the North game was so fantastic it had to be the start of something good. Seems it was. Lets just hope the best is still to come.

Well done Jeffy, and the club. Perseverance pays off.

and some kudos to Eddie too. .. Jeffy was still his usual, lately, low confidence self in the early part of the game but you can see Eddie, unselfish as normal, trying to bring him and even Collins into the game more and it seemed to work. ..

Garlett needed to be dropped 10 weeks ago. If he had of he would of found his form after a few weeks in the VFL and would of been back to the old player that we know and love. He was good last game, but he's had a terrible season which has been poorly managed by our match committee.

one of the main things i've noticed about garlett and its contributed to his lack of dominance on the score board, is when he snaps at goal the kick doesn't go the distance and is cut off by a opposition defender.
i think this has compounded upon his lack of form.

Maybe he has been well managed? Horses for courses and all that, not all players will respond well to being dropped regardless of their exposed crap form. Jeff might well be in a pretty ordinary headspace personally. Anyway, good to see him getting his mojo back slowly but surely.

He's guiding the ball rather than kicking through it. .. Cannot kick more than 40m ATM and he has been more than capable in the past. ..

Easily the best game he's played this year. Hopefully he can build on it and have a ripping end to the year and return to full form in 2013.

He is more than capable of kicking 50 goals next year if he works hard enough. Sublimely talented small forward.

How on earth has he been well managed? He hasn't deserved his spot in the team for about 8 weeks and his confidence has suffered because of it.

As far as I'm concerned one swallow doesn't make a summer, but aparently a shitload of people on this board are always sunbaking topless in the park.

When the swallows are as rare as they are this year we should enjoy them if we see them. And you wouldn't want me topless in the park that's for sure.

Now about that slow ox...

Look KD you may well be right about Garlett's management. But you may well be wrong too. Being so strident about it doesn't make it any more correct.

You must be a genius if you're predicting swallows and people sun baking naked. Managing a players work load vs development is something you and I know nothing about. player can contribute without kicking goals.

It goes to show how important it is that our more talented players step up especially in the absence of a lot of our core line up. I've been hard on him regarding his attitude and his work rate and when you see how much influence he can have on games it gets very frustrating when this kind of effort goes missing for the better part of 2 months.

Since the Pies game, he's 2/3 where I'd give him the thumbs up. Had a very big influence when we played the Pies as well so he's shown he can do it against the better sides too. I remember one passage where he fumbled the ball and he went straight back into the ground ball contest and won it back. You could see it just lift the team against the Pies. With the Dogs game he kept us in it in the first half along with a few others and what I was happy with most from Jeffy last Saturday was his intensity was there from start to finish. Let's hope he can keep it up now, that's the challenge...

And you know for a fact his confidence would increase if he was dropped?

I do yes.

As a general rule, and I may be really left field with my thinking, I believe that players that are playing well should be elevated and players that aren't contributing to the team effort should be dropped.

Carte' Blanche is frequently the worst route

And if his form flatlines in the reserves?

So which small forwards have been knocking on the door from our cellar dwelling sister club??

Good question but I would have brought in Ellard in his place, if he went back to the 2s. .. Ellard is a tough nut tackler who knows where the goals are, so would make a good replacement plus he would add to the midfield rotation. ..

Edit: The other consideration to make here is would dropping Jeffy upset Eddie's form as he likes having his little bro around and is in great consistent form. ..

Yep. Davey would have to be totally mystified but footy aint fair anymore. Players with special attributes eg. Jeffy for his pace, are treated differently at Carlton nowadays. Take Yazza being asked to play 2's for extra conditioning and doing SFA and making it clear he could not give a **** - he was rewarded by playing 1's next week. And yet one day when we are in a real pressure cooker game and players go missing - people will still ask "What went wrong?" Discipline/Work ethic/Pride
