Perth murder victim’s identity revealed

May 30th, 2019, 11:31AM Written by Laura Pond Stirling Times

HOMICIDE Squad detectives have revealed the identity of a murdered woman as they hunt for two cars linked to the Osborne Park apartment where her body was found.

Jelagat Cheruiyot, known as Nancy to her friends, was found at her Main Street unit on Wednesday afternoon.

Relatives and friends had expressed concern that they had not seen her in several days and could not contact her.

The two cars police want to find are a blue 2007 Hyundai Getz hatchback, registration 1CMR 900, and a blue 1995 Mitsubishi Coupe registration 1BJP 872.

Ms Cheruiyot’s family reported her missing to Morley Police after she did not make her flight to the US on May 22.

Officers were called to the house on Wednesday and believe the body had been there for several days. Detectives and forensic teams were today working at the rear of the gated complex and are expected to be there for several days

Detective Senior Sergeant Sean Wright told reporters her death was being investigated as a homicide.

“We are still making contact with family members,” he said.

“At this point in time we’ve made contact with two relatives that are here in Perth.”

It is understood Ms Cheruiyot had been living in Australia for a couple of years and had been working at a local business in Perth’s south.

Police are waiting for a post-mortem to reveal when she died.

Forensic officers and detectives are likely to remain at the home for the rest of the week.
