Jesse Hogan Contract Negotiations (Titus O'Reilly)

In the NBA there was some issue with the Cavs owner coming in and trading all their future picks and killing the club (and gifting the Lakers the #1 (James Worthy) pick after they won the championship) this is ages back.

One of the articles I read on it suggested the rule was brought in to stop a similar situation. Imagine if crazy Voss could have trade all Brisbane's future picks.

But really what's the difference between that and crazy Vossy coming in and trading out their first round pick every year before future trading was allowed?

They didn't feel the need to have restrictions then, and the only difference now is you can go one extra year in debt.

It's a silly rule anyway. Why shouldn't clubs be allowed to trade their first pick every year if they want?

You used to be allowed to, why should introducing future trading make any difference?
I agree it seems silly especially since clubs can only trade one year in advance

I agree, the nba example there was no two year rule.

You can trade them all just not til the year. The only thing they stop you from doing is trading future picks if you dont use 2 in 4.

Wow imagine if we took the same stance with fyfe.
Bring on the silly season!
The difference is Fyfe is in his home state where family are as well as girlfriend.
Hogan is clearly home sick and wants to come home eventually IMO.
I think Freo are very confident Fyfe will re-sign.
I don't think Melbourne are confident of Hogan committing.

Completely different situation. Hogan said at the start of 2016 he didn't want to talk about contracts until the end of the year, and it depended on the direction of the team.

We are at the end of 2016 now and whilst we aren't perfect it is pretty clear we have a very young list on the up. If Jesse doesn't want to talk still the writing is on the wall and I'd rather he go now (We will also get a better deal than 2017 when he is uncontracted and Freo will most likely not have such a high first pick).

We're also expected to play finals in 2017 and it is Goodwins first year, he has enough to worry about without being asked about Hogans contract every week.

For all we know Melbourne might have a deal all but stitched up and are just waiting for him to come back to Melbourne to sign. If Melbourne are a good club and hogans manager is happy the media wouldn't know until it's done.

No way of knowing what is happening behind the scenes.

Its more likely that Hogan is stayins with the Demons. Its crazy that we are even an outside chance. If we can land Hogan, McCarthy, BHill and change this trade period we'd be close to having our premiership window open again.

I find that hard to believe, when all the noise is they are frustrated and want an answer.

Can I ask where your getting your info? I've been reading your posts with much interest.

Mainly friends of friends and heresay, never have and never will say my word is gospel but I like to think I read these things fairly well. My sources indicated Hurley to the saints was a lock so definitely don't have a great strike rate of late.

Club has been patient with Jesse but now is the time to sign up or ship out. T-Minus 5 days and counting...

Edit - I am loath to believe rumours about this regardless of if they say he is staying because since Jackson came in we have leaked very little information to the media. The deadline thing is in a lot of rumours right now but it is more common sense than anything else

Noise growing over here this will be resolved one way or another by Friday, apparently we are determined to not let him go into 2017 uncontracted so it'll be sign up or we send you home now for best deal available.

Another week of logging on to BF with frayed nerves, excellent.

5 days til what?

Until an imaginary deadline about a contracted player?

If Melbourne are telling Hogan if he doesn't sign in the next 5 days, when he already has a contract to play next season they deserve to lose him.

Especially if he is home visiting an allegedly sick family member.

Melbourne will still have excellent bargaining power next year, especially if he has a big year.

He may well decide to come home, but at this stage there is nothing to suggest he will.
