Despite taking one of the marks of the year, have this nagging feeling that he
is destined for a drop to ressies. Question is, who will fill his spot?

This is heckin'g insane.

Let's hope the club really makes him pay for his abysmal form; drop him and tell him he's unlikely to be back in seniors until, i dunno, what's a good reason, he gets rid of those tatts. Then, if he's made to feel unwelcome enough, we can watch him develop into one of the best power forwards in the league ... at the Gold Coast.

Seriously, he's just a shite player, so let him go. Drop him and let him go.

He's not Barry Hall; he's not Brown or Fevola, but in all honesty, is there anyone who posts on the Swans BF board who really wants him out of the senior side right now?

He will not be dropped, he shouldn't be dropped. Simple.

this thread is ****ing ridiculous. that is all

I'd give him 1 more week until we drop him to the reserves. So far this year he has been a passenger and we can't afford to have any passengers against Brisbane.

Don't get me wrong if he was in the kind of form he was in at the end of 2009 White would certainly be in our best 22 but at the moment he is a shell of his former self. Hopefully he can find that 2009 form again (and soon).

Utter crap.

If he's fit, he plays every game.

the guy is doing alright with his limited opportunities as 3rd tall

would still like to see Goodes spend more time in the midfield, allowing Jesse to become more prominent up forward

but nonetheless, keep him in

I would have thought after that GRAB, it would have to be all the more reason to keep The BIG JESSE in the side.
In the 4th he almost effing took what would have been the OtHer Mark of the Year.
So, what was the secret to two of the most exciting parts of play in the entire match - The JESSEALENKO you beauty  playing out of the top of the square.
Where he played after BBBBulldogBarry went barking mad. The BIG JESSE showed what a player we have when givin the chance to play out of the square, and when again allowed to briefly against the Roos on Saturday.
Big Blokes smashing packs like that makes defenders hear either footsteps or fv<king bells.
Bradshaw has arrived, he now has the role JESSE looked to have grabbed. It's that fv<king simple, nothing sinister has happened due to any artwork or increased hat size or club catalogue campaign.
Team before player, well this is true. Though team before player does not simply mean, bin him he is not bagging 4 or 5 a game. It can also mean that the coach can ask you to play a role outside of your best position, thats what has been asked of him and Roos has said as much.:thumbsu:

What other young power forwards are capable of a mark like that in the competition, let alone one the books of the Bloods.
Well.

"His former self"?

He is 22 and has played all of 24 games. He really has not been in the 1's that long at all and will not improve to become the player we all know he will be playing in the 2's. It will do him no good.

Besides, he is not playing horribly. He really isn't. He is doing all that is being asked of him by Roosy and co., is taking a quality defender away from Bradshaw and Goodes' vicinity and is creating space behind him by how he presents up the field.

**** me, give him some time to learn and play alongside a couple of great big forwards and the rewards will come. Besides, Roosy is not dropping him anytime soon, so all this talk matters for very little. Nothing in fact.

It's having Jesse ijn the 22 that gives us the versatility to do what we did with Goodes on Saturday. It allowes us to shift him to run into the centre and Move White to CHF.

Whites form is not great and that cannot be denied but until someone in the 2nds is putting their hand up to take his place dropping him stagnates Goodes to CHF and to stay there. Maybe next week give him 5 minutes at the start jumping up against Nic Nat in the ruck and tell him to go like the wind get and his blood flowing again.

White cant perform like this forever and stay in the team but he is at least offering something to team structure.

Do it. But when you do, at least provide valid reasons and don't ask the question "who should replace player "x" in the side". Because it makes you come across as uninformed and wanting to start a debate for debate sake.

In anycase those who suggest we drop White remember the ONLY Key Position Forwards we have are Lewis Johnston and Henry Playfair. So yes, lets drop a player who has played 24 games and for a first gamer or an injury prone crock who can't kick.

Sometimes I think some people on this board don't even know what is our depth level and make blind calls regardless:rolleyes:

I don't think that, if he was to be dropped, we would necessarily have to bring in Johnston/Playfair/Currie/Pyke - it doesn't have to be like for like.

Richards, Bevan, O'Dwyer, Barlow, Rohan, Dennis-Lane, Smith, Vezsprimi... plenty of variety in our reserve options, there. Looking over the match report, Barlow managed 39 possessions on the weekend, Smith and O'Dwyer 34 each, I think we all know that a fully fit Vezsprimi is right in line for our best 22, Bevan did well in a defensive forward role in preseason and there wasn't much between the decision to start the season with Moore ahead of him. Richards was solid in preseason and provides another defensive option if we think we need it for the right match-ups, while Rohan and Dennis-Lane have both impressed the coaches in their first few months at the club... just because Playfair and Johnston aren't up to AFL football right now doens't mean there aren't others that are.

I'm not saying that he should be dropped, but there are options in the reserves for us to drop him with a change of structure if we want.

I just logged on to say something similar but you've summed it up well, good post.

Its a question though if we want to mess with the structure or keep it a work in progress...

Why would someone be dropped for doing their job, ie taking the third defender, forcing the defense to go one on one with Bradshaw and Goodes (when at CHF)? We've had three strong wins and a decent loss to one of the best sides in the AFL. Get a grip, and let Jesse keep learning his craft by playing alongside Bradshaw and Goodes. At least wait until we start losing before calling for heads to roll;)

Im not calling for his head, just commenting about options, geez talking about White on here kinda feels like walking up to a pack of rabid rottweilers for a pat lol
White is learning a new role and Roos has said after 4 rounds we can see we still have alot of work to do with him.

This is why we need him in the team

He cleaned up Hansen (legally) and any defender who watched that must give a second thought to whether he would like to get in the way and become Jesse's stepladder.

I think he got 2 players in similar fashion but I could be wrong..

I definitely think we want to keep going with it, but if we do want/need to change it, there are options, and if that change involves us removing a tall from our forward line, it would have to be White before Goodes or Bradshaw.

We have just beaten the three teams on the bottom of the ladder, so while things are going well, we will get a much better idea of where we are at over the next 5 weeks - an improving West Coast, Brisbane, Geelong, Fremantle and the Bulldogs. Our results in this next stretch are basically going to define this season - if we win four or five, we are going to be looking good to be competitive in the finals, if we win two or three we should fancy ourselves to get into the 8, if we win 1 or 0, we have probably been fooled into thinking we are better than we actually are because of subpar opposition.

That being said, I see no reason to change our structure too much right now - there are a lot of new players involved, new roles for old players, so it will take time for everything to work as it should. Up to this point it has still been succesful despite all the changes - we have only lost twice this year, narrowly on both occaisons to the Saints who are clearly a very good team. Hopefully we can keep the run going :)

this is a skill that cannot be taught. Jesse should be a walk up start every game. He will kick some bags this year, no doubt.

I'm happy to keep him in the side for a few more weeks yet. I jumped out of my chair when he took that speccy. But he's not the only young KPP struggling after a break out year (hello, Kurt Tippett).

However, he's got to lift his game. I don't think we'll be able to carry him against the better sides if his form stays flat. If so, I wouldn't mind bringing TDL to replace him. Hopefully that speccy kick starts his year, however.
