YEah it was a good win.

No excuses as your right the pies had to deal with the rain and they played smarter ( ) footy.

Well done pies.

Nothing in the Lloyd clash at all, sure it was a bit late, but he pretty much kept his eyes on the ball the whole time.
All it needed was 50 metres, which the umpire paid, so I thought it was handled pretty well.
If he does get called up for that I have a real worry about the hardness of the game, whatever happened to making someone earn a kick??

I agree!
Lloyd was late and so a 50 was given. Fair enough! IF he even just gets reported by video it would be like JUBJUB said and that they may as well call the game netball!

dreamkiller: How many of the Finals games (again, excluding the GF) do you see reach 90,000+? Not to mention the amount of people who watch on the TV even if they dont support the Bombers or the Magpies!

To all those worried about an influx of magpie posting this week after a SUBERB win. Well too bad. You bring it upon yourselves by the constant Eddie bashing, anti-collingwood sh*t that gets written on these boards day in day out. Credit where credit is due.

GO PIES!!! SUCK IT NICE AND HARD ESSENDON.

Hawthorn vs. Essendon Preliminary Final got more people in attendance and was shown live to Melbourne.

ANZAC Day might be the biggest H&A game of the year, but don't go comparing it to finals.

Crowd numbers?

Crowd numbers are irrevelant. What matters is on the team's performance during the finals, which is much more important than a single Anzac day match which is counted as a Home-and-Away match. The occassion is special, yes, but in the end, the winning team will only get 4 premiership points, which doesn't mean that certain team will win the most important match of the year.

And I'm sure there were a handful of Final matches that had crowds over 90,000... ask Dan for the stats. And if I can remember, the Carlton vs Essendon match in Round 20, 2000, had a crowd of 93,000 (or something like that). Even if that game was a very good match, it didn't prove more important than even Round 22... well, a game's a game? Four points it is... and finals are much more important.

From an impartial spectator - I find the Anzac day clash to be a pretty major event and I certainly look forward to seeing it on tv each year.

The reason it's so good IMO is simply the games have been so close since it's inception. Whilst today was eventually a comfortable win for the Pies it was certainly an upset and results like it add something special to the day - it's like you can guarantee it will be a corker of a game.

If there are a couple of years worth of lopsided results the game may lose some of it's sheen (unlike Finals which will always create keen interest) until then I reckon the Anzac Day clash will continue to be a very significant date on the footy calendar.

Today's game is important for Collingwood coz they proved to themselves they could beat Essendon, apart from that it is just another home and away match.

This match just happens to be played on ANZAC Day, this is the occasion, not the game of footy, the games on ANZAC Day were originally designed so the Diggers had somewhere to congregate after the march.

Never try to take the importance of today away from the real occasion, and try to shift it to a footy match. ANZAC Day is all about remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for all of us, Australians, and New Zealanders, to keep our island nations free, to preserve a way of life that we now enjoy.

This is a day for all Australians, this is our day to remember, to reflect, to shed a tear for those no longer with us, to feel absolute pride in our nation.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Read those words, they are special, they are what we are all about, if you are unsure about ANZAC Day, have a look at this site

To Collingwood and Essendon fans, your teams played a good match today, but remember, it is just a home and away match, the importance of the day is not because of the footy, the importance lies on the battlefields in Flanders, in Gallipoli, in New Guinea, in Tobruk, and anywhere else where our nation has been represented in battle.

ANZAC Day belongs to all Australians, not just Collingwood and Essendon supporters, they are just the representatives of footy fans paying homage to Australian heroes.

After reading As's post, I will hang my head in shame! Because it all true!

Argueing about what is the most popular game suddenly seems totally pointless and worthless!
