Meredith has had very limited game time (10 or so games?) and has been pretty hampered by injury.

Will be twice the player Jetta will ever be.

It must suck choosing a username and then realising you don't rate the player.

Mods can he get it changed to Bmer2Goodes?

Roos said when commentating for the Dogs game that he was in the team for his pace and had a license to run (or words to those effect).

yes they are his assets, NOT the only reason he gets selected, way to take him out of context and spin it to suit..

Jetta's been much better the past few weeks, certainly his past six quarters, and certainly not deserving of the ongoing criticism he's copped on this board.

In fact, the last quarter v the Dogs and the game on the weekend, admittedly against the competition's weakest team, Jetta has started to look more like the player he initially reminded me of - Freo's Stephen Hill.

His field kicking has looked far more penetrating and he's not as prone to falling off contests. He actually also seems to be around the ball far more frequently than last season, as if he's now worked out where he should be. And his hands are stronger.

Obviously he's got a way to go to get to Hill's standard but he's going the right way. I'm content that he's comfortably worth his place in the 22 at the moment.

My thoughts exactly. Now that he's not just bombing away and looking for specific targets (and hitting them more often than not, with both feet) he is a very dangerous and valuable player to have cruising around the wings and HF.

14 games over 3 seasons, was looking good then fractured his arm, struggled since to get back in. Patience is needed, though with so many kids breaking through if he doesn't make it this year sadly he may miss the boat like so many good kids due to injury at key times.

good to read on Jettas journal that he is working hard on his skills hitting targets, yeah I know youre all gonna say "so he should anyway" but for him to put that to print means he's working hard on it, good on him...:thumbsu:

One thing I don't think has been touched on sofar is just how integral a Jetta type is to our current gameplan. (was actually going to make a seperate thread regarding our gameplan itself)

We are currently playing (or attempting to play) a low possession, direct, long kicking game which I believe we are hoping to beat forward presses with (should work in theory)

Jetta provides us with a key to beating presses, in that more often than not he can outrun his direct opponent, and he is a long fairly accurate kick to a target. Which is one of the perfect tools to beating a zone defense.

So whilst he hasn't been in awesome form, he has been contributing and is a key in getting that game plan functioning correctly.

I believe we will see more and more as the season goes on, long kicks out of defense to a contest where hopefully our Ruckmen will take the mark, quickly opening up the feild.

This has been hampered somewhat by the loss of Pyke (man who would have thought those words would be typed 3 years ago) who is a great contested mark.

Jetta will be extremely important for the rest of the year, we need to have some patience with the entire team, as our gameplan has definitely changed, we are attempting to get ahead of the pack, whilst many teams are trying to copy last years premiers.

His inconsistency kills the Swans. Needs to develop greater consistency and fix his at times erratic disposal. Not good enough at the moment but still young.

Jetta is a receiver. If he is not getting a lot of the footy it is either because he is not getting into the right position, or his team mates are not using him correctly.

I reckon it is probably a bit of both, although his position can be excused for his lack of experience. Gameplan issue, they should be trying to bring Jetta into the game.

Two good points, and Jetta himself has just spoken of these in his article 'Jets Journal' on the swans website (maybe he read your post). Let's hope he takes this advice on board and tears North a new one!

lol, I sense a little sarcasm ?

No Bez!

I actually think Etihad will be his stage. Indoor game. There will be no excuses for inefficient kicking. I expect him to stand up big time against North today. He can run, but he just needs to get his body behind the ball & not just throw his arm towards the ball to drag it out.

But should he be one of the starting 23, he should be sustituted by half time if he hasn't done the job required. No excuses today.

Should he be the substitute, then I would expect him to cut the game apart when he comes on.

The time has arrived Lewis.

Norf trolls would have a field day at that! I don't think we've ever intentionally played more than the allowed number of players. ;)

Haha..........................I didn't...........did I?:o

I've enjoyed my first week in Australia!

Rule number one! Don't try to rush a post through when at work!

Rule number two! Read & understand the (basic) rules of the game!

Rule number three! Don't try to wriggle your way out of a dumb error!

Im sticking by my original post - week after week, this bloke does one or two nice things and is then unsighted for the rest of the game.

Would much rather have everitt playing forward and goodes in the midfield, or parker in the midfield than this bloke getting his 10 touches and 5 missed tackles a game.

I have faith.

i dont think the wet weather helped him

but as the weeks carry on i feel more and more confident when he has the ball when he kicked that goal (set shot) last quarter i just knew he would kick it and he did

when he runs its an amazing thing idd rather have him run all day hes never gonna lay 100 tackles he doesnt have the frame leave them for bolton

He doesn't have to make 100 tackles, just the ones that come his way. I counted three or four times today a Richmond player got into trouble and Jetta had an opportunity to wrap them up with a fairly straight forward tackle which would have drawn a holding the ball decision, yet each time he couldn't stick it. I like the other aspects of his game that he brings, but the tackling is a big problem.

Wet weather wasn't going to help his run, but he got forward and kicked two much-needed goals.

He does need to stick his tackles though. It's not for lack of effort, he' just going at the chest when he needs to go at the hips. The Swans should hire a rugby coach to give him some tackling practice.

I havent yet been able to see todays game, but I have watched him over the past few weeks and I am happy with the way he is progressing. He is also getting stronger and I believe his confidence is growing. His kicking is excellent, and even at goal (where he had the yips last year) is improving. I'm very happy for him to keep getting games.

His set shot goal shows you what he can do when he gets the technique right. However, most of the time he prefers just to boot the hell out of it as far as he can without really thinking about how he can deliver it to his teammates' advantage.
