Do you think Jimmy Bartel will end up re-signing with the Cats, if not, do you think it's worth going after him? There doesn't seem to be much available come trade week at the moment, and with some salary cap space he might be a good addition to the midfield

Why do we need to be active in trade week anyway? Put a fit McPhee, Solomon and Rioli plus Fletcher into the side that has played the last two weeks and we would be a finals contender.
Draft some more kids to develop and keep on the same track we have been in the last few drafts.

i wouldnt be selling the farm to get a hold of Bartel...........

he is a 'misiti-type' accumulator of the ball which is valuable to a team but i would rather see continued development in stanton, dyson, slattery etc in those on-ball roles & would prefer our first round pick on the best available youngster who ideally would be another tall defender

Fire truck - you have no idea re Misiti do you - if you can compare Misiti with Bartel you are on drugs.

If Bartel was a Misiti I would be jumping up and down to get him, but he isn't. The whole reason our midfield is crap is becasue Misiti got old and retired.

Bartel is 21. He will grow into a player equal to Misiti.

We can talk trades if you guys are willing to give up Mcphee, lloyd, 2 draft picks and Hirdy can cut the oranges for the next three years.

WTF is your problem...........?

am just making an observation..........Bartel is a midfielder that is not blessed with blistering pace IMO yet still manages to read the play very well, accumulate lots of possessions & deliver with good skill.............

yes Bartel has still got a lot to prove but FFS hes only 21 & will no doubt get better.

oh & btw............am tipping i might be fairly well credentialled enough to comment on the entire playing career of Misiti after watching every game he ever played in melbourne & quite a few interstate ones as well..............

now hows that for credentials? enough for you?

by all means disgree with me but dont ever tell me i have no idea.

Hopefully your not planning that on this years form .. What if those 3 players are never fully fit ...
And they Mcphee and Solly have found to still have disclipine problems ...

If we had of had those first 3 players in, we most likely woudln't have had the kids in busting their arses off, that we did ... so who know, we may have gotten belted by more in a couple of games, you can't just assume with their inclusion, we will be a better side... don't people get that, it's not about what last name you have, it's about what your willing to do to win on the day ...

If a suitable trade came along, should always consider it, but to say we don't have to be active in trade week, means mediocrity has fried your brain, and are willing to except us being down there longer than we have to be

Here we go, if you want to look at it that way we could trade for Bartell and he may get injured as well  Are you telling me that Fletch, Solly and McPhee dont have a go?
If we had those guys in our side last week then we wouldnt have had Henno, Bolts and Sam Hunt in. Hardley depriving the kids getting a go in!!!!!!!
If a suitable trade comes along then yes you do look at it but being REALISTIC for a minute, how much do we give up and how much do we pay?
Really how active do we have to be, the 8 or so players we need to get rid of will hardly attarct a huge amount of interest. Geelong would ask for a 1st round pick and somone like MJ for Bartell, would that be worth looking at?
Nothing has fired my brain. I base my view on having seen everyone on our list play all year including all but 2 of the Bendigo games. Trades are good
but one has to question what we have to give away ;)

The man speaks sense.

we wont get bartel. the players id give away for him wouldnt be wanted by geelong and we wont get him in the PSD. and theres no way id give up the 7th pick in the draft when its gonna be like a lucky dip to get a good player in the top 20.

did i say i wanted Bartel ?
i said not to participate in the draft, for the simple fact a couple of our players showed a bit of promise, and in theory we should be better next year , is pretty stupid .. especially seeing we finished 13th with most of our senior blokes in ...

Bolts would have been in no matter anyway ...
I was more thinking of if those 3 or 4 were playing , guys like Teddy Thommas would have been out of the team ... Henno and bolton would have been in no matter what ...

one has to wonder what we have to trade away ??? we finished 13th, with a pretty good team, i could think of alot that there is to give away ...

On talent alone yes we do have a pretty good looking list for next year, but it's not all about talent ..
If the senior blokes play like they did this year, we'll be up ******** creek the same as we were this year ...

Well who are we trading to pick up a decent player? Jason Johnson? Scott Lucas? Mark Johnson? Adam McPhee? Andrew Welsh?David Hille?
You seem to be the one with the big trade ideas but i havnt seen anything put forward yet.
As for team selection how do you know Henno and Bolts would have been in no matter what. Both where dropped at various stages.
What senior blokes are you talking about? I suppose you think we should get rid of Solomon because he had a poor season? Dont worry that he had an injury all year. Good logic that , we would have traded Mark Johnson away last year under that logic as he had a poor year and dicipline problems.
I am not sure if you have noticed but it is the middle of the range players that have caused us the problems. Bolton, Cupido,Bullen,Henno,Murphy,Alvey,Haynes etc have given us nothing which has killed us.
My question is why all the dreaming about trades. Sure if we can someone cecent for a reasonable price you look at it but i dont belive it is in our best interests to race into trade week looking to trade away too much for the sake of trading.
Maybe you overated our list, we finished one win short of what i thought we would. On the plus side we gave at least 9 guys experience this year who should go on with it.

And for next year, on what we have now i belive we can push back up to around the 12 win mark. The reason i dont see the absolute need for trades is that Bradley,Stanton,Dyson,Lovett,Richards,Monfries and Laycock have all shown great improvement . Lovett-Murray has done really well after a bit of an inconsistant start. Jobe Watson has finished the year off well. Slatts has had a good year and shown enough. Winderlich has had a better year (but does need to find a bit more) Nash has been good in the seconds all year. Jolley has been very good as has Wilson. Courtney finally played some footy and with a full pre season of running he can only get better. Cartledge played well for most of the year until the last 3 weeks or so.
Another plus that needs to be mentioned is the form of Peverill in the last half of the year. He was terrible early on but when a few young guys came into the side his form picked up a lot. Pev will never be a super star but if he can peform like he has in the latter part of the season he is good value.

I read all up til you said i was thinking we should trade Solly haha, you've put words into my mouth, so you can shoot that theory down hahahaha .. if i had read anymore i think i might have been laughing for longer than i wanted too...

I never said trade for a decent player either ... i said AND PLEASE LISTEN THIS TIME, so you don't waste either of our time more, that it is stupid not to participate in the trade period, based on the talent we have alone, and hoping everything falls into place next year, all because our young guys showed they are going to be pretty good..
If all it took was talent, Freo would prolly be on top of the ladder, and Adelaide wouldn't have been this year ....
If someone(as an example) offered a reasonable player for Henno, would you not take it ? or woudl you say, well nah we'll just delist him and not worry about the trade ?

Are you even an Essendon supporter ? Henno and Bolts not being in... hahahahahahaha ....

R to your infamous solly crap, did i say trade him ?
I said if he along with a few other players play undisclipined footy
get picked to play with injuries
and all the other ******** that went on this year..
we will struggle again next year, no matter how much promise Dyson and Teddy and the likes showed...
This year more than anythings, should have showed you, you need 22 contributors, and if next years team selection is anything like this years, we will strugle yet again ....

In future, would be best if you stick to what i say, and not the points you have a good arguement on, yet where never thrown up :) .. otherwise you'll have more headaches than you cause
