He also played an excellent 2016 Grand Final irrespective of who should have won the Norm Smith, especially in the first half when we were still a bit nervy. Especially in the low-scoring first 20 minutes of the game, when we weren't playing that well, and our players were playing nervous, he wasn't nervous at all and ran and carried and kicked long and got us a lot of territory to help repel the Sydney attacks.

Always a bulldog legend.

Pretty sad about this one. Not only losing a legend but I thought he definitely had one more year in him. It seems he didn’t want to throw the towel in either.

He was a real greyhound when he was on. Beautiful to watch. Will never forget his Premiership contribution on that October day. Best wishes and thanks.

The Western Bulldogs were in town one weekend, and I ran into JJ at an East Fremantle v South Fremantle game. Caught his eye and gave him a 'Go the Dogs'. Not a smart move at Shark Park (South Freo are the 'Bulldogs', and the rivalry is fierce). Got some dirty looks, but I reckon JJ knew I was referring to Footscray, judging by the thumbs up he gave me.

I also think he had more gas in the tank. Best wishes JJ.

Remember him taking an awesome grab up forward in the '21 GF. Shame we couldn't go on with it in that game. So many moments get lost because of the heavy defeat.
sometimes i reckon that had josh bruce not done his knee against the bombers we would've won the flag that year

For mine this is and always will be the career defining moment of Johannisen's career.

It's mostly remembered for Bont getting into space and on the end of his many teammates hard work. But somebody needed to break the frenetic play that proceeded it and JJ was perfectly positioned to use his skillset to be that somebody.

It paved the way for his Norm and everything including the bulldog immortality that came with it.

1000 years later. It still sends a chill up my spine.

Thanks for posting that clip and reminding us of what a jet that man was.

Boyd’s hack to JJ happened right in front of me and I am visible for a brief moment in the footage. One of my all time favourite moments at the footy.

He played well this year and I’m glad he managed to get to 200. A great career despite a lot of injuries the last few years.
Did you get credited with a goal assist 🤪
Apart from his dash and dare off half back he will always be remembered for so many interesting tonsorial choices 😁

Also my favourite memory of JJ and of the 16 PF in a game stacked with Dogs highlights.

Reckon I've watched that last quarter 50 times and I still yell "go JJ" when he takes off.

Still gives me goosebumps, too.
One of the greatest moments in Bulldog history!

Actually thought he was going good this year until that last injury (Cats game?). Body really let him down last few years and always copped an injury just as he was finding form, which would’ve been so frustrating for him.

Could see he was gone last round vs Freo. There was 3-4 times in that game when the old JJ would’ve at least tried to put the afterburners on, dash snd carry. Just didn’t have it in him and/or didn’t trust his body to run. Bit sad seeing him rush kick instead of using his speed. That’s not him.

Will really miss him. Always felt better when was in the side, regardless of form and one of the best clutch and big game players under Bevo. Did it when it mattered. Loved that late Sydney goal n 2016 when coming back from injury.

All the best JJ.

I don’t remember one second of that game. I had already wiped it from my memory bank halfway through the last quarter.
