The decision to leave Brander on the bench for so long mystifies me. Game was over in second quarter put the kid on and give him a chance to show his wares.

Every game had players like that, many had not even been used at all! So I don’t think it’s a WCE thing.

With teams practising rotations and trying to get structure right, it didn’t leave a lot of room to use everyone I think.

Surely McInnes has to be a KPF with Kennedy out, and until he comes back. This is not to say that Waterman and Brander aren't bad players but neither has currently enough presence to do the job. Waterman simply isn't big enough apart from being completely inexperienced. There is probably a position for him on a flank with Rioli going down again. Putting Brander there at this point in his development is throwing him to the wolves and he would probably get devoured. If Naitanui returns for the Sydney game which is very uncertain then neither he or Lycett have ever shown much as forwards. So with the available cattle it has to be McInnes. I think they will go with Waterman and both he and the team will get killed. My five cents worth.

Nic nat i thought did well resting forward when JK was out in 2012. I think it will be massive risk to bring him in for round 1 though and i hope he builds up another 2-3 games in the WAFL.

100% agree with bringing in Brander to be a focal point and if we were going to play him surely we would have played him FF over the weekend. Let him play some WAFL and get some confidences as a leading FF in the WAFL then bring him in later in the year if he is killing it.

Mcinnes should play as the roaming CHF with Darling as the FF. Mcinnes seems to cover the ground well and he is better at hitting up targets in the forward line than Darling. Waterman can then play as a third tall.

Round 1 forward line:

Waterman Mcinnes Venables
Cripps Darling Ryan

Bench: Lecra ( Rioli over Lecra if he is fit for round 1)

We know the forward line is disorganised at the moment. A lack of supply and low quality of supply hasn't helped.

On top of that, our forward pressure has been average this preseason, and players like Darling profit from it.

Inclined to give it the benefit of the doubt until we've played a couple games, before judging Darling's development...

Edit: having said that, FMac would probably provide a cleaner cleaner aerial contest based on what we've seen. Gotta see what the MC pulls out.

Don't understand all the Redden hate, if anything, he's the one I'm least worried about. I think he will be good for 25+ touches a week. It's the likes of Sheed, Duggan, Lycett, Partington, Barass, Cripps, Darling. These are the ones that make me nervous. These guys can be frighteningly average on their day, and could potentially sink our season. And then you have the likes of Venables, Ryan, Rioli, that need to show something for us to have any chance.

We need a lot to go right.

With JK out for the first few weeks, do we swing Gov forward to cover him? Barrass can hopefully hold down the back line?

Would be an easier call with EMac available, but not sure we have another tall back to replace Gov with.

Why would we create two problems in our best 22. Trying to solve jk and then trying to solve gov. He’s the best CHB by a country mile in the game. We’re way better of trying a brander or waterman forward. That is how you get games in to our youth. That is how they develop.

We are the Eagles, you know we dont blood our youth!

I really don’t know what anyone was expecting. This was always going to be a leaner year, and one where more young players cut their teeth. As Joel embid would say, trust the process

If you had watched the game , then why use the young players as a excuse ..

Couldn't agree more which makes it more frustrating that we have given our 1st round pick away for the 2018 draft. Probably turn out to be the best chance we would have had to get an A grade midfielder into the club in a long time.

Then why are we gonna bother with redden, two very subpar years shouldn’t mean he plays max mid minutes. Throw Duggan in there, sink or swim baby

I had a serious discussion with my friend John Walker last night about our JLT2 performance. I'm now feeling most reassured that it was a blip on the radar and that JLT1 is a much better reference point on where we are at.

Why did Redden have two subpar years? It wasn’t due to being played out of position as the club didn’t have the balls to bench Priddis do you think?

Spoiler: yes it was

He didn't have two subar par years. He was very good in the last half of last season.

The process involved tanking for high picks. We've traded our 2018 first already. How is this "the process"?

Thanks for the explanation Tiger. I was referring to the part insanity plays in being a Dockers supporter and if pretending to be a supporter had any similarity at all to catch 22.

There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for one’s own safety in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a rational mind. Orr was crazy and could be grounded. All he had to do was ask; and as soon as he did, he would no longer be crazy and would have to fly more missions. Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and sane if he didn’t, but if he was sane he would have to fly them. If he flew them he was crazy and didn’t have to; but if he didn't want to he was sane and had to. Yossarian was moved very deeply by the absolute simplicity of this clause of Catch-22 and let out a respectful whistle. “That’s some catch, that Catch-22,” he observed. “It’s the best there is,” Doc Daneeka agreed.

On reflection it wasn't a catch 22 situation.

Paul Simon was great in that movie. Taller than he looks too

We traded to get what turned out to be Brander, Allen and Ah Chee, who is a very good player. Probably expecting Gaff to leave via FA, which means we’d probably get a pick after our pick which gold coast took. No reason we won’t try and package a few picks for a first rounder either
