I think their kicking is a real problem. Jobe can read the play so well but he has no confidence with kicking and more often then not when he does kick its a shocker. At one stage during the match he didnt even look forward, he just looked sideways for a handball. We have been saying for years he has to improve his kicking but it has not improved at all...
Pev gets a lot of the ball but he rarely uses it. 0 goals 2 behinds yesterday. Another player that looks for the handball at every chance. They really don't fit in our team if we want to play a game that has worked for us in the first two rounds which is fast through the middle with pinpoint accuracy kicking.

although pev played well yesterday, jobe is above him in the pecking order

when jj and campo come back into the side i'm not sure if pev will stay in the side

after jobe's stellar season last year he has cemented his spot in the side

Great competitors. I like the way that pev goes in hard. I saythis season will be one of his last, because of the young talent coming through. Jobe is great in and under but cant kick to well, but has improved heaps in the past few seasons.

Jobe reminds me of Stanton from a couple of seasons back - gets a ton of the ball, and wastes about 80% of it.

Campo is a waste of time/space/money. His biggest asset was his pace, which he has lost a lot of. Players like Stanton are replacing him now, as are the versatile Monfries/Slattery.

How much does Slattery look like Gary O'Donnell?

That was never his biggest asset.

His ability to get the ball early in his career and later his ability to run and carry, then hurt you with his disposal were his biggest assets.

Wish he could start playing like him.

I think its more of a problem than jsut jobe and Pev... Widnerlich can waste the ball as much as any1.. and the likes of stanton and johnson remind me a lot of each other... but guns.. both ball magnets.. both cant finish... Essendon is jsut lacking in the skill division atm... needs big improvemnt to compete this year

 Winders has top disposal.....Lovett is good, Davey will improve, stanton has already...Lonergan will add grunt and skill when his opportunity comes..

I rkn winderlichs kicking is fine.. but he often goes wrong option... and under pressure when being tackled often coughs it up.. And stantons kicking around the ground is fine.. i was more tlakin about his finishing( kicking at goal)

I thought Pev has improved the penetration of his kicking. Jobe on the other hand needs to find something. Other sides are reading him and know he goes sideways or backwards.

I think people are being harsh on pev... he only had 1 clanger, and whilst he missed two goals, he wasn't the only... winderlich missed two he shoudl have got... lovett missed the goal which could have won us the game.

I have been watchin pev fairly carefully and i think he has made big efforts to improve his disposals.

He is improving... his kicking style is so awkward looking though..

I agree Silk, Pev was good for us on the weekend & people have heaped praise on Winders. (see votes thread) He played well, don't get me wrong, but he missed two very 'getable' shots on goal early in the match when he was running clear.

Watson needs a big game soon. Pev has been alright, and his disposal much better.
Personally i thought Jobe was one of our best on the weekend. 7 clearances is a significant amount. Jobe's problem is a crisis of confidence not a lack of ability. He can kick very good passes as shown on a couple of occaisions on the weekend. Remember he has only played 37 games.

If he could fix his problems he will become our number 1 midfielder in the next couple of years.

Pev's disposal was better this week.. loved the goal.. If Jobe kicks the ball like he did yesterday on ANZAC Day he would be close to being dropped.. Absolutely shocking

IMO it has become a complex for him.
he is well aware of it as is everyone else in football and it appears that when he gets it, all these negative thoughts go through his head, and of course he stuffs it up.

Having said that, at least he can win a stoppage and in no way should be dropped just for his kicking at this stage

Good to see you give Pev a big rap up. BEST ON GROUND I believe but his kicking was better. Time to focus on someone else for 5 minutes.

I think they should spend half an hour at training with guys like Davey and Lovett pressuring him when he is kicking the ball.. Maybe with people negative comments at him just to practice gameday kicking... he needs to get out of this rutt he has put himself in..He can win the ball which is great but you HAVE TO USE IT WELL!!!

These tow will always be whipping boys - have been for a while. They do their job and as long as the coach recognises that - thats the main thing.

The ability to win the pill is one of the most important skills - it is the runners that must have perfect disposal - then Watson and Pev can dish off to Lovett and Stanton and etc.

Mate then they shouldnt get themselves in positions where they have to kick it if they aren't there to kick the ball.. Its all very well to say that Jobe gets the ball and thats what he is there for but there are plenty of ball winners in the AFL who can kick the ball... Its the difference between a good player and a champion player. They are not whipping boys at all... They are playing football and Jobe in particular has shocking foot skills..

Pevs kicking and games have been better than I expected. Jobe is starting to worry me, his kicking is ordinary to say the least and he will be too easy to read when he is just looking to handball, this is where campo can help him out with running by to break the lines with long penetrating kicks.

Great dilema to be in with JJ, campo, dempsey, winders, lovett murray, welsh, hislop. houli all waiting in wings for a crack.

Drop Watson.. If you are that slow you got to be able to kick the ball.. I dont care how good he is at getting the ball out of the middle...
