I think it's worth doing, but I'm not sure GWS could actually sign them, with the way the rules are. Put it this way, if they wanted to go to their father's club, there's no way GWS could get 'em

I believe they can try, but as yu say, if a kid says he has absolutely no intention of going to GWS but to his Fathers club, they wont select him. It would be a waste of a selection.

No point considering we MIGHT be able to get him as a 2nd rounder. Why waste a first rounder when we may not have to!

As i understand the rules by committing to draft a father son player before the draft you are only guaranteeing you will use your last draft pick of that year. The normal bidding system still applies and you can be outbid if you refuse to use your first round pick

We should try to get a commitment from Joe sooner rather than later, but you don't want to put too much on pressure on a 16-year-old. Gotta keep Sheedy's grubby paws off him.

I'm sure the club is aware of the situation and doing as much as they can to secure him. Its still two years away, alot can happen. From all reports I have read he is an essendon supporter and you would think that fact and also the fact that hird is the coach would get him over the line.

Not worth worrying about.

Yep, this is how it works.

I'm loving this rebuild of club pride. We got Zaharakis who was a Bombers fan, brought back Hirdy and Bomber, now Heppell and Steinberg, add Joe Daniher to the list and suddenly we're playing for the jumper again, which incidently has recovered from the designer mauling it underwent.

Get on board Joe!
I f****** love this f****** club!:thumbsu:

Because we have to develop our tall forwards from this point onward. Why sit on our hands for another 2 years, then have to wait 1-2 years while Joe develops into a regular senior player. If Steinberg is bank, not bust, he will be 2 years ahead of Joe, and playing regularly.

Plus, until there is a signature, there is no guarantee. We delisted Still and Neagle may be gone, so getting another tall forward into development is a smart move imo.
If, if and more ifs.

We say this as if we have an A grade midfield to boot. Literally no logic in gambling on one project fwd @ #31 when you have ample KP options (relative to other stocks within the squad) and another KP to come.

edit*: reading on, and I can see there's some hope he can develop into a midfielder or an SJ like player. Well that's good to hear, my understanding is that he was KP forward with sketchy potential x-factor about him. (potential being the operative word)

There's logic behind everything, whether a certain pick hits or misses there was some thinking behind it.
Only in bigfooty-world is everything completely cut and dried.

IMHO there's a lot less logic [/FONT]
in relying on a kid who's missed twice as much footy as he's played & 19yo kid and "literally" no-one else.

*Bump*

Wanted to make a thread about this kid, but somehow found this one, just a few questions because i don't know much about him and would love to know more.

Is this kid really as good as people say he is ?

What position will he play ? since Ryder and T-bell look to be a solid ruck combination for the future

Is there any recent footage of him in action ?

If he didn't nominate us what pick would he have been taken at ?

Lastly, I know its early days but what player could he be compared to ? or what are his best assets ?

Impossible to say anything at this stage.

He could be anything, or turn out to be nothing. Just way too early.

He would play ruck, he's about 200cm at 16!! Would go forward here and there like we do with the current guys.

Hard to compare. He's a twig, needs to put on a lot of size, could still grow a bit. He has missed all of this TAC Cup season due to injury so his development is still very raw.

Please god no. Not another Gumby.

He was in Adelaide last weekend with the team. They obviously love the kid to be bringing him on interstate trips. He is SO tall and he is only 16.

My older brother was 189cm in grade 5! He is now 210 and in year 12.

Are we able to pick Daniher up at the draft that's coming up or do we have to wait until the one after?
