Works hard (Joel Corey), but butchers the ball at will and makes so many crucial errrors to the point I've lost count.

Massively overrated.

You too, Corey Enright. In fact, you are ten times worse.

Corey Enright... Down Hill player.

Joel Corey .. No. Was one of our best in the last quarter. I have time for JC, but not so for Enright at the moment.

What game were you watching? Corey (Joel) was horrid. Sure he got the ball, but did zero with it.

I don't mean to question a players courage, but in 2004/5 JC was the hard onballer of the club, who went in under the contests, got possession, and was guarnteed to be concussed every second game. Now he's a floating backman who just doesn't seem to go as hard anymore.

I think I'll agree with you at the moment. At least Corey was having a crack. Enright needs to smarten up or he's tradebait.

If Josh Hunt was deemed to have been out of form then I'd love to know what the coaching staff think of these two over the season. If they were serious (we know they aren't) then both would be sent back to the VFL next week.

Joel Corey's confidence is shot. He has become a chronic fumbler, a panic merchant and his disposal is woeful, not that it is that great the best of times. He is not a half back flanker, he was our best clearance player but we rarely see him in the centre anymore. If he's injured then rest him but he is horrible at the moment.

Enright I've had a gutful of. I've never rated him and would have happily traded him away last year. He's a squib (see him drop his head and the subsequent mark in the second quarter), he's lazy, his disposal is a disgrace and is barely at VFL level. His defensive skills are questionable as is his poise when the pressure is on. Cats2rise is 100% accurate.

These two were terrible in the first half especially. Were led to the ball every time.
Kelly was very poor as well.

Couldn't agree more.

I've been a big fan of JC for years but this year so far he has been woeful. I know he won the B&F the year before last, but he's doing so much damage right now he needs to be in the VFL.

Corey Enright is just about the AFL's best exponent of junk possessions. I'm sure a lot of supporters are blinded by his stats, but he just floats around for easy kicks and his use of the ball is appalling.

The other bloke I've been REALLY disappointed in the last three weeks has been Mooney. His efforts in the NAB Cup and the Dogs and Blues games were great, but he's just gone downhill very quickly. He makes a lot of skill errors (I've never seen someone drop so many easy chest marks) and bad decisions (last kick against the Dawks), and today he just got sucked in again. Not good enough.

How about these 2 plus Hunt and first round for Judd please........................................................................

Probably be considered heretical but I agree. Too many easy marks dropped as well

Enright ain't worth his weight in dog meat, Don't think we want any of the trade trash he might attract, or do they have a round 9 draft pick nowadays. Send him off to Yarrawonga - They don't mind signing useless GFC hacks as capt coach.

Woo go me :p

Bang, you have got it in one. Thomspon has always loved these guys mopping up from half back. That may work for Milburn, but not for our midfielders. We only have to look 18 months back, and JC was arguably the best midfielder at the club and racked up 500+ touches, with most of them damaging.

Let him play as the pure rover/on baller or make room for Tenace, Selwood, Prismall (even hunt in the middle?) and give them as many chances as Gardiner has had.

Agreed - however, you could add 3 or 4 others as well.
Hunt was hungry in the VFL - SJ was ok but slow as usual and I don't think Djerrkura is ready yet. Keep your eyes on Grima! The energy of the VFL game was in stark contrast to the AFL match and the game of the above players was casual and sloppy - really disappointing.

I'd like to add to this by saying that this problem has been around for much, much longer than you all think. IMO our midfield has been our biggest weakness in the duration of our current list, at least 4-5 years.

I think our smaller forwards are extremely good (S.Johnson, G.Ablett, Chapman) and have held up the slack along with our defenders in this time. The recent big change to the game going ultra defensive has seen us come unstuck. Our tall forwards are my no means the best going around, but when the smaller guys had room, they would hurt the opposition continuely anyway. When flooded, it is much harder to score this way.

I watch a lot of other games and by far the biggest difference I see is delivery to forwards. We just plain suck at it. When Riccardi left we lost the only mid who could consistantly hit leading targets with flat stabbing kicks. I don't want to sound self-righteous, but I've been very loud on here about Corey and Enright in the past, they are very poor kickers for senior AFL players and as the thread title reads, they are overrated.... plain and simple. They suck as defenders, they don't win enough contested ball, they turn it over far too often and they simply don't hurt the opposition.

The problem with all of this is that I don't think we have any other options... Every team will end up playing a flooded game against us, and we will lose most of them. Having guys like Tenace & Byrnes only adds to the problem. Either the opposition teams play an open game (eg Carlton) or we lose.

What do we do? Keep Selwood in the team and hope that J.Hunt regains his confidence. my 2c..

Problem is he is not a small defender. Trim down Joshy, and take Enrights spot along the wing.

Yeah, Enright is fast getting on my nerves ala Shannon Byrnes. I just dont have any time for guys that have poor skills.

I like Corey but admittedly today was one of his poorer games, They should have a look at Joel Selwoods game :thumbsu:

In regards to Selwood, I meant keep him in the team for experience. He has shown signs of being a pretty complete midfield player so far. I couldn't believe today that a guy with 3 games under his belt, showed up 3 of our senior midfielders with hardness at the ball...

This is exactly what I have been thinking for a while now. Enright and JC can get all the loose ball coming through the centre they want, does us no good when they kick indiscriminately into the forward line. Time and again it doesn't go to the advantage of our forwards, and gets rebounded. When that happens, these guys are the ones that get found out, because they are 20+ metres away from their opponents.

That's a very good point.

I've always thought enright was a fringe player...we are seeing the best he can be.

On the other hand I've always been a fan of Joel Corey as he continually manages to get the ball and drive it forward but you are all right, his disposal is shocking and along with Mackie turns the ball over far too much and it's not just his kicking, his handballs usually put a teamate under pressure. I'm afraid to say that if he cannot improve his disposal and decision making then he is becomming a liability.

Mackie I think has further improvement in him yet and appears to be getting better in this regard.

Get them both back in the centre square, where they both performed at their best.
Thompson has a habit of putting the midfielders in the half back line.
