Now that Nate Myles is gone, the Storm actually need to recruit Moon to ensure that we have someone to fill the 5/8th gap left by Scotty Hill. Inglis isn't ready yet so Moon would be an awesome youngster to gun in the position ...

Aubusson, Geyer, Inglis - between those 3 we have adequate enough cover, but I agree that Moon would be a superb young acquisition to partner Cronk in the halves.

If we're really struggling, Crocker could play there too, he playe done game there during this year already in the halves and has a great body size for the position.

is there any news on him yet?
Another day, another Hun article saying he will decide today. FWIW, I don't think we will get him, but according to Peter O'Sullivan the Storm are looking at other options if we do not get him.

Yeh I agree, don't think we'll get him.

Interestingly enough, I read an article a while back about how we signed this young 14 year old half-back, Ben Hampton (editted), on a 4 year deal.

Smells of another Inglis.

Let's hope it doesn't become another Nicolau. :o

I also believe we signed Michael Bond from Brisbane? He's a young halfback who we might be able to turn into a 5/8th ...

Ben Hampton, yeah. Big wraps on him from a very early age. If he turns out half as good as Inglis we'll be laughing. Hampton will join the Devils after he finishes school.

Bond has been playing 5/8 for the Devil's Colts side, so he is a fair way off it at the moment but certainly another option for 2007.

The storm obviously face the same dilemma some AFL clubs face, with interstate juniors wanting to stay at home because of family, friends, lifestyle etc, only it's made alot harder because of the fact there only seems to be two states to recruit players from.

Do they have to win a couple of premierships before players decide to sign with them? or even stay with them? (Kimmorley, orford, bell, webster, friend, turner, the list goes on and on)

Big name, no doubt. But with a bad reputation. We are always going to miss out on the genuine big names, especially when going up against clubs like the Broncos, Roosters, Manly and Cowboys. Not sure Joel Moon was a big name though, it was always going to be a pretty audacious bid considering how settled in Brisbane he was. We were offering pretty big money for someone with almost no experience, so this could be a blessing in disguise.

Only reason we got him was because a large portion of his family is based here in Melbourne. That and the fact that, as YOTR alluded too, his bad reputation was getting in the way of his footy in Sydney ...

I just Michael Bond comes along nicely next season ... :(

Inglis will be the 5/8 next year, absolutely certain.
That would be an absolute waste. Just sign a player who can pass the ball on both sides and pay him just to get the ball to Inglis, Slater and King running wide. Inglis destroys teams when he has space - why waste him at one pass off the ruck? Melbourne don't need a good 5/8th - they just need someone to play the playmaking support role to Cronk and Smith and to feed their outside backs.
