He has lost the confidence to back him self when he has the ball.. struggling to regain any form whats so ever.. Do you think they should try him in the midfield? what are your thoughts

I think everyone is being too rough on argueably our best performer over the last 2 seasons... Hes been injured most of the Preseason, and just come back from another injury. A couple of weeks and ill be saying "I told you so"....Played a ripper against Essendon, and was injured again after a poor first 2 weeks.
He'll be back, mark my words, this week J.Smith will return ;)

I've been wondering if JS is niggled by some sort of injury. He does not seem to be the player the Hawks have relied on in the past. The run seems to have disappeared from his game, so I don't know if a game on a wing would make a huge difference. Maybe his game has been shackled by accountability.

Gotta say Joel's really starting to $hit me!!! i know he's been OK over the last couple of years but he just goes about it sooo casually and looks like he doesn't care, but turns the ball over sooo often! Ditto: Jonathan Hay.

They just lack that sense of urgency.

GO HAWKS!!

He does look terribly out of form but I am sure he will bounce back. I don't think his cause has been helped by Hay looking so proppy in defence. I would like to see him being shifted to the wing for some periods of a game allowing the backs to switch the play and him running forward getting amongst the goals.

From what I see of Smith's game, he's constantly going the Schwab route of running but running sideways.

Of course, there isn't a whole lot for him to go to at CHF atm either which doesn't help his cause in straightening up. Just not sure the current game plan suits him to well either.

Beat Hird, carved up by Waite, non-descript perfomance last Sunday (at times looked as though he didn't have an opponent) and played like he was lost too.

He's a quality player but struggling. Not alone there either and given that it's mainly the senior players who are finding it the most difficult to adjust to Clarkson might just be an indicator of how hard it is to 'shake off' the years of Schwab style footy.

Love to see him play better (because he IS capable of playing better) but not going to damn him on a few poor games in a row, more so after an interupted pre-season and returning from his previous woes re the Hamstring troubles.

I can't remember a game where a player missed his targets by metres more than Joel on the weekend... he kicked it sideways, out on the full and just wasn't able to get it to the intended person.

Take a leaf from Croady run up the guts and kick it as far as you can.. the forwards will know where to run because they have to.

This look away handballing and kicking doesn't work 90% of the time, and looks absolutely sheit. Why do the Hawks do it??

When learning to play together again and learning new game plans, I sure the idea is to keep it as simple as possible.

Not a big deal but the sort of thing that leads to knowledge and understanding of eachother that results in wins instead of losses.

It seems to me if the current group knew each-others games a bit better we could be 6-1 in equal first instead of 1-6 equal last.

I'm going to be the ever optomist this week and slap some money on the Hawks to make the eight... it may be money wasted but I'm proud of their commitment and effort this year.

Go Hawkies

I would consider putting it on for next year if the odds where good but definately the year after.

Totally agree with you Grendel.

The $10 I got at $25 is looking okay. Now in to $3.25.
