Can anyone of you enlighten me please?

Who is this Joffa; I only really know of him as a white haired guy that wears a glittery jacket and seems to be shown a lot during the Collingwood telecasts.

Is he just a real full on Magpie supporter or is there more to his story.

Ploise uks playn?

Joffa is the Thracian god of beer, he represents not only the intoxicating power of beer, but also its social and beneficial influences. He is viewed as the promoter of civilization, a lawgiver, and lover of peace — as well as the patron deity of agriculture and the theatre. He is also known as the Liberator, freeing one from one's normal self, by madness, ecstasy, or beer. The divine mission of Joffa is to liberate Collingwood from the oppression and tyranny of the Collywobbles

Wow, he sounds mint , but it sounds like Joffa may need saving from the Collywobbles?

Joffa is two things. Proof of the power of the internet and proof of the power of Collingwood. From a personality on Nicks in the late 90s to MMM cross to pre game address to fellow Pies fans at the Cricketer’s to Eddie’s gold jacket and widespread recognition. Whether you like him or not you have to see the Power of Collingwood in him. In fact the more critical of him you are the more you should understand what it means that he is “famous”.

Joffa (Greek for "thrice-great Magpie", Greek: Ερμής ο Τρισμέγιστος) or Joffas ter Maximus in Latin, is the syncretism of the Greek god Hermes and the Egyptian god Thoth. In Hellenistic Egypt, the god Hermes was given as epithet the Greek name of Joffa. He has also been identified with Enoch. Other similar syncretized gods include Serapis and Hermanubis.

Joffa might also be explained in Euhemerist fashion as a man who was the son of the god, and in the Kabbalistic tradition that was inherited by the Renaissance, it could be imagined that such a personage had been contemporary with Moses, communicating to a line of adepts a parallel wisdom. A historian, however, would leave such speculation to the history of alchemy and the nineteenth-century history of occultism, or indeed Mick Malthouse himself.

What MarkT said.

Basically if you feel ashamed and think he represents you as a Collingwood supporter, get over it. He is just a supporter the media is infactuated with.

I think he is more a representation of the power that eddie has. He has proved he can turn anyone not matter how borish or moronic into a celeb(although about as b grade as you get) I am embarrased by him or should I say for him. He is a laughing stock and is a very good represenation of an ugly collingwood supporter if you ask me. I saw a you tube video with him shouting abusive language(im no saint but i watch my ps and qs in public) out in public amongst a crowd of adoring people, including young kids. Great role model joffa is-Not.

Well perhaps you can elaborate to the congregation in your next sermon

When I was doing banner for the Port vs collingwood game, he walked past us and had a bit of a swipe... at least I think so - you can't understand a word the guy says.

I'm a Joffa fan in the mould of, any publicity is good publicity. I mean look at WC, not hurting them at all is it. But OK, I agree his image is not polished, but in this day and age of robotic teams and AFL rules he still represents the 'everyman' at the footy. And while I wouldn't attribute animisitic or even theological abilities to him like anzac has, Eddie has been a bit cleverer than people give him credit for in using Joffa as somewhat of a club icon. Although it hasn't just been Eddie who has contributed to this. To be honest, with the way money has poured into Collingwood in the last 5 years The Club did risk becoming perceived as another Melbourne Footy Club, out of touch with a wider supporter base and cut off from the average bloke. I'm not saying this is true, just that the perception was risked. Instead Joffa has become somewhat of an anti hero who keeps the rest of us honest, and lets everyone see it is still OK to be passionate about footy and enjoy it for what it is. It is OK to laugh at yourself, and in a way Joffa is actually a carictuture of Collingwood, he is also somewhat of a reminder of The Clubs history and what makes it great, remember this was a club born of a festering slum and often sponsored by gangsters and organised crims who still knew that the community needed something to unite it. They are a team that has played in over 30 Grand Finals because they had a chip on their shoulder and were as tough as old boots, the hatred of our club didn't spring from alchemy, it was a real haterd of supporters who came from a tough part of town, and when the game was over you got away from em quick smart. The good thing is that with all its Lexus Centres and Emirates Airlines people like Joffa, whatever he is like in reality (probably alright, as he sponsors a charity walk) are still part of Collingwood. He is the ying of Eddies yang, I think that is what anzac was getting at, although I also suspect that anzac has been getting at some LSD;) . Just kidding anzac, thought your post was quite witty:D .

Stupid post.
Joffa has never once claimed to be a role model.
All he is is a proud and passionate pies supporter.
He is the leader of the cheer squad, of course he is going to be loud and unruly, but who really cares?

where have I said joffa claims to be a role model?? All I am saying is people take there feral kids to the footy who crowd around him like he is some kind of god. To them he is clearly a role model , this is not joffas doing but it seems to be the case. I would not want my kids hanging around joffa and idolising him(some clearly do)because he is not an example someone to look up to IMO.

I dont want to be seen as a melbourne type club but the feral image does not sit that well with me either and joffa is as feral as they come. Clearly the feral tag sits nicely with many on this board and thats ok if thats how you want to be seen but I don't.

I have no problem with joffa being a feral bogan and agree life is boring if we are the same. Its the fact that he is now a celeb that annoys me. Not to the point were I lose sleep over it but when the topic is raised I am more than happy to give my 2 bobs worth.

Good luck to him but from what I have seen of him(and yes I have seen him around the traps) I dont think he is a very good advertisment for our club

Seriously? Are we analysing and dissecting the public image of Joffa like one might a book written by Dickens?
Fancy analytical skills and a command of the English language in these posts doesn't make him any less of a knob.

He's a fame whore that forgets he's just gutter trash; Clearly so did you all.
