I think we just win despite the i50 differential. If we could we'd want to win the inside 50s everytime. Having said that when we lose the i50 count there's an open forward line because the other team plays a high press and we get efficient entries.

The hardest thing to do is thread the needle to find a player in a shooting position when the 50
is flooded by both teams. Therefore the easiest time to score is on transition or on turnover with fast ball movement.

Penetrating the high press when we are defending is difficult for any team. You need superior numbers inside own 50 to give the advantage to mop up with your defensive organisation and scrambling which then leaves you low numbers to contest when cleared from own 50. Rushed kicks out rarely work. Seems that the best avenue out is also the most risky for HTB calls and that is overlap handballs. The other alternative is a kick to a tall who despite being outnumbered can still bring ball to ground allowing crumbing and possession higher up the ground with appropriate support.

One thing I noticed vs the Hawks.

After we marked deep in the defensive 50 we looked for a marking option not a handpassing option, and were prepared to wait rather thsn run into trouble.

We've conceded about 11* goals from turnovers and errors in that scenario this year and it has cost us games. No doubt.

Thank you! We look so much better when we don't handpass needlessly in that scenario.

We're still running it out from choas entries, and when options are on forward. But we're taking that pressure valve release option too.

If that is as a coaching tweak, the coaches deserve a nod.

*(bullshit stat I made up ;))

The game was still played on the Hawks terms. Thankfully our kids lifted us to victory.

It was amazing how we played into the Hawks set up as they congested the middle of the field because they know we tend to hit and hope out of the backline

Even late in the third quarter they hadn’t scored a goal that wasn’t from a turnover.

One thing I will say is that after watching the Saints live last night it could be worse on the coaching front

I'm glad we have a coach who can win gracefully rather than a spineless little man who whines when he loses. Maybe that's why he appeals to whiners.

Face it Clarko, you lost to an under-manned team because you were outcoached by Horse and outgunned by a 19yr old forward line. Roughy couldn't score. Smith couldn't run and Mitchell couldn't get the ball. Why ? Because Horse made it so.

Jeez what a sook. Roughead got out played, simple as that.

On a positive for Horse, while the commentators were lauding Clarkson for his rebuild of Hawthorn (still a joke), we won with a team that had on average 17 games played less than the Hawks.

We all have opinions about how Horse deals with the cattle once they're on the field, but geez he's good at getting the cattle ready for senior footy.

Say what you want about his coaching and I have been critical

Will never question his integrity or class as a person and rep of the club

Lost respect for Clarko this weekend

Horse handled him very well

Horse will never have Clarkson's CV but I could see Horse maybe going on to another club once he's done at the Swans and being universally respected in the AFL. If Clarkson doesn't win another flag and keeps lingering around in the AFL he will be remembered more for being a bitter, senile, real-life version of this meme:

Just put it down to inexperienced supporters.

What did he say?

Basically he said that he found it odd that Clarko would go to see Gil two days after a game and could not understand why + that Hawthorn block in exactly the same manner as the Swans and he rang Clarko and told him to pull his head in ("we agreed to disagree"). It was a beautifully controlled rant.

Big week for Mr Horse. A win over Maestro Snarko's mob, standing up for our players and potting back in the media... then the left field Bud selection to blindside Lyon, the media and pretty much everyone ('cept the Marketing Dept)

5 wins in a row. So we still hate Horse? 6 woeful performances, do people still think Dew was the only thing which made Horse any good?

The next 4 games will tell us everything we need to know

West Coast
Richmond
Geelong
North Melbourne

win 3 of those and I will be feeling a lot more confident.
