Kiss of death going to Carlton possible player exodus , very little depth and a complete lack of confidence in the club. Could easily end up like Clarkson or Malthouse in their final years. Maybe if he agreed to a two year stint like Roos at Melbourne and then hand over to an understudy.
Freo would make more sense as it has the core of a good team or maybe Port. If he wants the Tassie job he could need four or five years to get them competitive. Think he would do a good job at St Kilda if Lyon went.
Purely speculation but if he put his hand up a few clubs would be all over getting him.

The next coach at Carlton will face far more scrutiny than Clarkson has at North, why anyone would put themselves in that position is beyond me. Surely Longmire is far too smart to put himself under that kind of pressure.
The Tassie job would be the perfect fit for him and play to his strongest ability - man management.

Surely will be inaugural coach at Tasmania now.
They will throw a mozza at him and he will be rich rich rich
Reckon appointment is done and played a role in his departure from here.

Not so sure about that.

He might have been confident that he could land another job if he wanted it but I can't imagine, in his state of mind at the time, that getting back to coaching somebody else wasn't something he would commit to.

In the mean time, does he have a role at the Swans now? How did his first year as "High Performance Director" go? Does he take a pay-cut now that he isn't employed as a Premiership-winning coach?

Agree strongly with the first part. Pretty sure he was burnt out after 22 and 24.
Also think the role he has been doing is a case of "how can we effectively use this clever and good bloke who we have to pay anyway?" Horse would have been well on board in trying to give good value for his money and I think we can be sure there was no bad blood.
I doubt that the role will continue beyond the end of his contract but he might continue to do the role at reduced pay to stay busy and engaged or he might take a long holiday. 🤷
