Hey dee's fans just a question on John Meesen will he be a walk up start for round 1 2008??
cheers

So Adelaide supporters declare him absolute rubbish but now he's starting in the team. I would say that he's about the same chance as Jamar and Paul Johnson, he may have more upside but he's yet to prove anything. No doubt he should get a fair crack at it in the NAB cup and after that it will depend on form.

I hope for meesen that he doesn't get delisted after 2 years like watts did

He'd be fourth in line at the moment.

Forget the fact he was a first round pick, he has played 2 games in three years, he has to show something first.

I think he may have gotten a free ride under Craig. I honestly reckon Bailey will put his boot so far up Meesens ass that he'll be chewing toenails for breakfast. Good luck to the kid and we've all got high hopes for him

As a non Crow supporter, but having seen some of him in the least few years, I liken him to a softer Josh Fraser. If he has a personal "seachange" with his attitude in Melbourne he will be a very handy 2nd ruck/resting forward, if he shows more of what hes shown so far in 3 years in Adelaide, he will dissapoint.

Fraser is more a forward flanker but you don't get any softer than Guy Richards lol. It's all good we got Wood :) but best of luck with Messeen.

Depends how he goes in the pre-season - same can be said for Johnson and Jamar. I like him though, he could be a very handy pick up.

I will be watching the pre-season with great interest concering Meesen. My judgement is reserved until then.

An atheletic ruckman could be very handy. I'd accept him being an average tap ruckman if he was able to dominate his opponent around the ground. Josh Fraser like.

To be honest, I would prefer it if Meesen was a brilliant tap ruckman rather than an athletic ruckman. That way he could compliment White's athletic capabilities with his tap work. A good tap ruckman is something I think we've lacked for a while now.

White wont be there for much longer though. Yet Meesen doesnt look very athletic... big and strong in the PJ mould.

He's VERY athletic and he's certainly not big and strong. (Well I guess he's tall :p)

Body and body in ruck contests he has a lot of work to do. Gets thrown around a bit, even in the SANFL.

Gets around the ground with great ease, very good disposal. Centre bounces he's pretty good. Can play forward too.

Footy smarts are questionable (in terms of positioning, where to run etc.) and he's a bit soft.

He's got work to do, but he has obvious talent. Definitely could have done worse with pick 37.

Re: Meesen

cons:lopes around like hes in slow-mo, lacks intensity, crap at hitouts.

pros: decent skills, some say great but i'm not so sure (only seen him live twice at the parade though), only 20ish, cost us pick 8:thumbsd:

Re: Meesen

What do people know about Meesen?

Better than Jamar and Johnson?

without a doubt.. he actually has half decent skills and was in the top tier in fitness at the crows.. should start ahead of both jamar and johnson.. wouldve been happier to delist one of them than fergusson

Re: Meesen

if you can find his confidence, he'd be better than jamar because his skills are better. ruckwork around the ground is not so good but centrework is reasonable.
needs to put on a bit more weight but i believe will improve dramatically when playing at afl level - think it may actually suit him more than the more physical nature of sanfl.

Re: Meesen

Just needs more time at AFL and a bit more weight. Sublime disposal. Good athletic base. His rucking style is hard body-on-body, which doesn't suit his body at the current stage which has led to the misconception that he isn't much in the square. he does lack intensity, but I think that is more so because he feels out of depth.
