COLLINGWOOD premiership ruckman Darren Jolly is likely to miss a further two matches as he continues to recover from knee surgery.

He is now expected to also miss the round nine clash with Adelaide on May 22 and return the following week against West Coast at the MCG.

"He'll definitely miss this week and it's unlikely he'll play the following week," Collingwood football operations manager Geoff Walsh told afl.com.au on Wednesday.

No problem with this. The best game I've seen Wood play was against the Crows & Maric @ AAMI in 2009. Obviously the Crows have Jacobs now but I want to get Jolly 100% before he plays again even if it means after our 2nd bye.

Yep, no need to rush Jols. If he ain't right give him the time to get right.

Round 10 sounds fair enough and fine by me.

Also gives us the opportunity to expose Wood to some more games and hot contests, particularly this week.

The more we play Wood the better. The less we risk Jolly the better. We have done the job we needed to do thus far and won games. Things would have to go very wrong to not make tiop 4 from here. Get games into Keefe, Rounds and anyone else who deserves a game. Play Davis & Krakour through the midfield. Don't over tax Swan, Pendlebury & Thomas. You always have to be careful not to flirt with form but from here it's about finals.

Pretty standard really, he had a clean out, usually you miss 3-4 weeks with that type of surgery, after this week he will only have missed 3 weekends (vs Dogs, Bye and vs Cats).

Not like we need him against Craig's weakling crows anyway, West Coast will be more then a test then the Crows now.:)

The obvious positive is Wood gets at least 3 games in a row to prove what he has got.:)

Yep this is Wood's defining moment right here and now - he has had a couple of years to develop and learn his craft.

No one who is fair expects him to be Jolly right now but its time he stood up and showed he will do his part for the team.

Did anyone actually think he'd be back in time to face Adelaide? He was zero chance of playing this week so it was highly unlikely he was ever going to play next week. He's just way to important to be brought back any earlier than need be.

I must admit i thought WC at the earliest anyway, purely for the reason that we are not desperate.

If Wood gets beat in the hit outs, I can live with that.

He really looked to have had a crack last week. That's all I would ask.

Just compete against Ottens. Make some body contact and bang in. make him work in ruck contests and follow his ass when Ottens pushes forward and don't be afraid to push forward yourself, making Ottens work in defence. This is where Jolly gets to Ottens.

let's be honest, the next game that we really genuinely want jolly absolutely cherry ripe for is the preliminary final. all efforts should be made to ensure that happens. if it means a month or 6 weeks off now so be it

as for wood, i was at aami in 2009 the night he produced the best game of his career to date. he absolutely tore the crow big men a new one as the lone genuine ruckman in the pies side that night. if he could produce at or near that level week in week out he would be a star of the comp. he just needs to string games together and get some confidence. wood is much maligned with little basis for it - whenever he gets his chance he is at least serviceable. we are well placed having him in the wings as jolly ages

So what do we think would happen if Wood get's injured this week? Certainly would be interesting.

yeh man, thats what i was thinking, that means, the american pie would be our first ruckman to pick, if not it would be ceglar, who hasnt played many VFL games??

we'd be ****ed if it happened:thumbsd:

JEEZUS! Joely and Rusty we'd be screwed if Oz sunk into the ocean without a trace too!

What a pair of jolly rogers you two are - we have enough on our plates without worrying about more.

for all these years we had fraser rucking unfortunately I only remember him playing 1 good game in the ruck and that wasn't with us it was with the Vics, he got injured that day and seemed to never recover...so is woody better than josh...personally I gave our no.1 draft pick heaps and heaps of chances so at this point I am hoping Woody develops into a decent ruckman because a few of the radio commentators have been saying the woody experiment is a failure...it be great if the kid keeps getting better and shuts alot of mouths....other than that we have a top class ruck in Jolly and under no circumstances should he be rushed back

Wasn't keefe also a **** ruck originally? His form in the 2's has been handy, could be his chance to shine in front of 90,000.

This was needed. Not the Jolly injury but the consecutive games into Wood. He is going to have to replace Jolly in a few seasons time and desperately needs back to back AFL games for his development. Have at 'em Woody!

Leigh Brown ruck 70%, give away 20 frees but bash and be physical
Shae 30% ruck and a bit of forward line
Think we would cope ...just

No probs. Drop another mid in the middle. Play without a ruckman at centre bounces. Anvil to do the forward ruckwork. No defensive ruck. Just use weight of numbers.

I see this as a positive. Wood needs the practice. Whats happens if jolly gets injured come final time id be glad his had quite a few games through the season. Also collingwood has another young tall.
