I would just to thank whatever planets were aligned during the draft for the fact that we did not get the above mentioned who has now been fined $5000 by North Melbourne for being a boozehound...one suspects that half that fine was implemented for having the unique ability of passing the ball at right angles when really wishing to pass directly forward, and for generally being completely sh1t...

Thank you, Mars, Saturn and, for those of you who may be inclined that way, Uranus...

I am pretty sure it was more of a case of what they wanted, rather than what was offered. Thank goodness our recruiting dept saw right through that little catastrophe.

The recruiting department had nothing to do with it.

We offered our first pick. They wanted Ryan Murphy and Pick 1. We flat out just said no.

I would think the contract that we were offering would be proably around the 300,000 mark
any draft pick would of been too much for him in hindsight, you guys should be thanking your lucky stars.

I was so relieved when Hay decided to go to the Kangaroos, he was a disaster waiting to happen and has set the Kangaroos back years. The recruiting people at Freo should have a long hard look at themselves for even considering trading for Hay.

The change of club has not improved him at all,a shadow of his former self, unlike Thompson who I think has become alot more of an aggressive player at the Roos.CC would have known a fair bit about Hays character from being at the Hawks. The last thing we needed was an over paid dud.

I think you'll find that connolly was keen but the asking price was too high.

Laidley went after him, his neck is fair and square on the block.

This besides the fact he(laidley) is struggling will do him in.

Saw CC walking Hay around the Freo HQ at Freo Oval while I was umpiring a footy carnival there.

What a dumbarse ploy to try and recruit hacks to our club and give away draft picks. Certainly not the first time it's happened, but I am so relived that our coach didn't get it all his way that time.

It's one thing to show a player you have coached, and comes from Perth, and is a potential trade around the club, and another to say the coach didn't get his way.

There was a post either on Big Footy or Docklerand which quoted CC from a lunch where he said Hay was never worth 2 first round draft picks. It sounded like CC was very clear as to his value.

You also have to remember that at the time of last years trade period we were in desperate need of a 195cm decent defender. Who knew that Johnson would come on like he did.

The issue with Hay is not that he's a bit of a dud but that what they paid for him especially given their stage of development. But there is a twist to this because the Kangaroos are one of the teams that are getting penalised for not being completely carp and missing out on priority picks. When its an average draft what do you get for pick 14?

Should read "The last thing we needed was ANOTHER over paid dud."

who else is an overpaid dud? Name names, rather than trolling, and hoping the new co-moderator will let you get away with your constant bagging of our club, players and coach on our board. You and your uncle (alias??) constantly drop these comments, and never, ever back them up.

Players we've traded for since CC has been here:

Croad - been and gone and Freo are no longer paying for him in any way shape or form.
Farmer - got a contract extension for extra time and no more money in 2004. Worth every cent for his defensive efforts, as well as the goals he kicks / creates, and the head-aches he causes opposition coaches (and supporters).
Headland - started slowly, playing very good footy for us now, and we see when he's out what his value is to the team.
JCarr - worth whatever he's being paid - and it mustn't be an outrageous sum, or the media would have been all over it.
Blacky - no doubt a middle-of-the-road amount. Earns his keep easily.
Schofield - don't reckon he'd be on much. And by next year, he'll be on nothing.
Simmonds - been and gone. Demanded way too much for an average player... showed Freo wasn't prepared to pay over the odds for him, so bye-bye.

The biggest earners in our club would (IMO) be Pav, Belly and Hase. Tell me they're not worth whatever they're being paid. I would guess that most others are getting around what they are worth. There might be a few duds on the list, but they certainly won't be overpaid ones. I reckon the club has sorted itself out with regards to paying what a player is worth.

So next time, back it up, or shut up.

He's a strange one that Mick Ryan... I can't work out whether he has a semi-soft spot for us or something...

You're so right Lach and he knows what he's talking about too.

Well back it up then. If you know what you're talking about, then back it up. We here are obviously all "tragics" (otherwise why would we be here??) - and we obviously care about where the club is headed and what we are doing... so rather than drop one-liners that appear for all the world as trolls... share some more. That's all I'm saying.

So you're a weevil with a "soft spot" for Freo???

Geez I love it when you get angry!

I actually answered your "tragic" post but your Lord Protector must have thought it was a bit too hard so he gassed it. Mind you I didn't consider it to be insulting or derogatory but I guess he is devoid of a sense of humour.

I read somewhere laidley said that the kangas with there **** weak membership and being broke every season couldn't do ahawthorn and draft kids because 3-4 yrs in the wilderness would kill of the kangas hence they have to keep going for 25-27 yr olds to keep wiinning enough games to keep their 15 000 (need about 25 000 to break even)members coming back.

The sooner they really see the light and merge with the Southport FC on the gold coast the better - that way the Afl can save about $1.5M per yr propping them up- money that can go towards helping out the second teir comps around Aust.
