Young guy who's had a tough run with soft tissue injuries. People expecting him to be a star straight away are kidding themselves. Had a shocking game on the weekend, the previous week he was pretty good. He'll learn from it and another preseason will really help him if he can remain injury free and have that confidence in his body not to fail him. In contrast, Langford is a premiership player but he's really not rediscovered that early career form that we'd hoped to see.

I thought he was running with Gibbs yesterday and had gone okay. Obviously going by previous posts I had either zoned out or nodded off and was dreaming.

I'm prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt - hasn't had many opportunities because of injuries and needs to be given time. I recall quite a few used to dismiss Shiel as no good (some still don't rate him) but for mine he with time developed nicely. Another player who took time was Duryea

This.

He's had a horror run with injuries in his first 4 seasons missing chunks of games and struggling to get any continuity going. He's only 22 with upside still to come. He may not hit his straps until about 24 or 25.

Has inconsistency still and struggles to impact a game. That is about the same with all young player bar the absolute elite (and half of them start the same too). He is at least 2 years behind his draft peers due to soft tissue injuries. I think our coaches look at young players and see if they have things that cant easily be taught. JOR has that. Smart when he has it, good natural disposal and kicking ability and is more an inside player that can find the ball. I am certain they are developing his outside game at the moment. PLENTY there to work with and some patience will see us laughing if injuries go right for him.

Regardless of his injury history, he should have shown glimpses of his capabilities by now. What I'm seeing is a bloke that doesn't excell in any area of the game.

Let's have a look at some os the prerequisites for good midfielders and put them up against JOR and what he has produced to date;

Ball winning ability- below average
Reflexes- below average
Pace- not really
Vision- average
Skill execution- average
Marking ability- average
Defensive skills- average
Strength over the ball- below average
Poise/ decision making- Average
Comparisons with Sheils are laughable. Sheils showed plenty more than this bloke from the get go. At this stage he is looking like a bust at pick 18. He would need to show something soon to be kept on the list.

What parameters did you use to form these ratings? Was it the "what my eyes see" framework? Cmon man, that was a pretty poor post.

It's ok mate parsons nose from Bigfooty has given his opinion so I'll take that over a four time Premiership coach.

Making up arbitrary statements helps no one.

There is NO WAY IN THE WORLD that the club is thinking that he shouldn't be on the list.

Talk about whipping boy material....

He wouldn't of been playing this weekend against the Blues if we didn't think he should be on the list..and would be passing his time in the two's. Hawks supporters seem to miss what Clarkson MO is with players. It's about building and developing. I think this is how you win premierships?

Every O'Rourke game I have watched I have seen some nice touches or he has gone under the radar. Pretty much what I expect for a player with his backstory. Forget his draft pick - his injury-interrupted career renders his draft pick obsolete. Being that we didn't use pick 2 to get him - who cares. As a former member of the Jed Anderson hype-wagon - I think it is pretty idiotic that people were getting all warm and fuzzy over Jed, who showed maybe one or two decent outings in the brown and gold and had an exciting junior highlight reel when we got him, and then are just so utterly scathing over another kid who hasn't exactly done anything wrong outside of not being a world-beater in his second season at the club.

Where's Tom Murphy when you need him?

Luke McCabe?

It's starting to become some posters best past time, we need more Litherland brain farts in the seniors lol.

I'd be happy to be proven wrong tige 19. I've been wrong many times before. Early doors I though Chris Langford wasn't up to it, he went on to play 300 games. I also had Gary Moss pegged for great things, but it never eventuates.

I'm a little flattered that a mug punter like myself is taken so seriously on such matters THB.

Exactly. Remember, he wasn't just a surplus player at GWS who fell into our collective lap, he was targeted by the club. There's no suggestion that he's going to become an all time great, but the guys that have steered this ship the last few years felt that we'd be better with him than without.

Ridiculous.

I see him as a Pendlebury type, learning his craft in a controlled manner.

The Hawks, consistently, almost boringly, develop their players, without the pressure of being 'the man'.

He's not panicked, and Hodge/Lewis aren't ripping him... Ergo he's doing his job.
