One pre-season
A bundle of soft tissue injuries
His core strength would be way behind fourth year players, probably even behind first year players
This year is way too soon to be writing him off
To expect him to be performing at the level of even a fifty gamer is just bizarre

Sensible as always, m0zza.

Imo most posters commenting on JOR would be aware of this (your post). Having just re-read the thread (last 5 pages) no-one is writing him off as such or expecting him to perform like a 50 gamer. If I was a jury I would be out on JOR at this moment in time and to a lesser degree TOB. I just can not see it that is all. That is not to say that external factors have not played a part and improvement will never eventuate.

JOR's game against Richmond is an outlier. If we had kicked straight we should have won by 100.

I can see more in Brand atm and he missed the whole of last season with a shoulder.

He is not inspiring me.

Can't seem to find the ball by himself and doesn't do a hell of a lot when he's got it.

I think this is exactly what we need to see from him (or at least some more signs it's coming).

There is value in the ball magnet accumulators (Sydney mids) and value in the high impact types (Rioli) and midfielders who do both are the genuine guns of the competition (Mitchell)...

For mine O'Rourke hasn't really showed enough of either to get overly excited about - doesn't just rack them up at will and doesn't do huge damage with the ones he does get....

.... and Brand is playing as a key position player with an immature body. Yet I think it's fair to say that most of agree that there are signs of potential in Brand. We are discerning enough to look past his mistakes and deficiencies at this point in time knowing that he is still developing. My concern about O'Rourke is that I have looked for the positive signs that you generally see in fits and spurts when a player is establishing himself and I struggle to see them. I have watched every senior game that he has played for Hawthorn and have kept my eye on him and am yet to see something and say "wow, i get it". He is so very vanilla which is hard to reconcile with his draft selection.

I think he is learning to do other things besides getting the pill atm. Learning the other parts of being a part of the hawthorn rotation in the midfield.
you've got to be able to line up inside at a stoppage, outside at a stoppage, forward or back these days. Looks like they are working on his outside and forward games mostly, and probably his defensive positioning because they are comfortable with his ability to win it. At least that is my read on the situation

Jobe Watson took a while to come good and Sheedy had written him off, then one season it all came together and bang he became elite...I reckon JOR has similar attributes to Jobe. Josh Kennedy also took a while. All similar players I reckon....hopefully!!
Yeah, but when Jobe did that, it was 2012. Draw your own conclusions.

Not expecting him to be a gun of the competition but have seen some things to suggest he'll be a solid player for us.

Watch the Eagles game from earlier in the year.

Good idea. Other half is away and was wondering what to do.:thumbsu:

Aish has looked like a spud all year and is starting to come good, JOR could be the same.. Big game tomorrow Jono

Sensing a breakout game for the lad tomorrow, this will be his fourth game in a row and will show everyone what the club see's in him.

Very excited !!!

Regardless of his injury history, he should have shown glimpses of his capabilities by now. What I'm seeing is a bloke that doesn't excell in any area of the game.

Let's have a look at some os the prerequisites for good midfielders and put them up against JOR and what he has produced to date;

Ball winning ability- below average
Reflexes- below average
Pace- not really
Vision- average
Skill execution- average
Marking ability- average
Defensive skills- average
Strength over the ball- below average
Poise/ decision making- Average
Comparisons with Sheils are laughable. Sheils showed plenty more than this bloke from the get go. At this stage he is looking like a bust at pick 18. He would need to show something soon to be kept on the list.

No reasons why he can't be a premiership player.
