To cover the loss of Vardy for the mid time, Simpkin has been promoted. Speculative choice given his disposal efficiency

Re: Joffa Simpkin promoted

Guess that means he'll get a gig this week, then?

Re: Joffa Simpkin promoted

Hmm, interesting!!
I haven't followed him much, has he been playing on ball and whats his form like in the VFL?

If anything like his 2011 VFL form that saw him win the B&F, then he'll be ready.

Ahh ok, sounds promising!!
So is he an onballer or a forward?

Would be nice if he became a Pods style rookie inclusion..... :D

Re: Joffa Simpkin promoted

Absolutely the right decision, Simpkin won our B & F last year and has been our most consistent afl listed player in the vfl this year. That after 2 years on our vfl list. He has worked long and hard to get another chance since his time at sydney and well done to him, a very deserved promotion.

Additionally, he brings to the side two things we've all been saying we need more of: clearance ability and legspeed, and he's ready to go. Whether it works out time will tell, but it's a very sensible decision by MC.

Just to clear up a couple of other points:
chaos-yes he will play, it costs money to elevate a rookie so the club wouldn't do it unless he was going to play that week, same as with stringer.

SR-the menzel thing doesn't matter re life span. As I said yesterday we get a 'nominated rookie' promotion available to us at round 12 so if both Stringer and Simpkin perform one of them will probably be elevated into that slot meaning both could remain on the senior list even after Menz returns.

He's an inside midfielder who can also play as a small forward and knows how to find the goals.

Re: Joffa Simpkin promoted

My issue with Simpkin is that by foot he's running at below 55% for disposal efficiency. He could be a player like Cowan who steps up at the higher level. Guess he's worked hard to deserve his chance.

He's capable of doing it, in 2010 when he made the vfl rep side (which arguably got him rookie listed) he kicked several bags and was very dangerous in the wing/small forward role. Recently he's just been adapting to the change in role that they've given him which has affected his delivery by foot. He's most definitely capable in that area, we've seen a couple of the nab goals he's kicked for us, I have less concern over his footskills/decision making than I do with Hoges. And he's winning a bucketload of clearances and working harder defensively than anyone else, which is the sort of stuff MC values and what we need at the moment.

The point is though that he deserves the chance more than anyone (that's not a criticism of Stringer by the way, who I like, it's just a comment about Simpkin) and has earned it on the back of 18 months of extremely good form, so we should get behind him and back him in.

Here's hoping he can grab his chance with both hands like his brother seems to be doing.

Re: Joffa Simpkin promoted

Not unusual for players disposal efficiency to drop when they play a more inside role. Simpkin's been shifted into the guts this year, and you'd suspect that's why he's been elevated.

Hmm ok then, that sounds promising - we need another up and under to help out Selwood, seems like a step in the right direction to sorting out the contested possession count.

Could he possibly free up Chappy to spend a bit more time forward and rotate with him maybe?

I am still of the mindset that Chappy hasnt lost form, just that the midfield isnt the place for him to be playing!!

Re: Joffa Simpkin promoted

I think it's well deserved. He's showed many times he's a ball winner, and plenty of other senior list Cats have shown terrible disposal lately, so that's not enough reason not to give him a go.

Re: Joffa Simpkin promoted

Find it difficult to see how any more in and under type player with a bit of toe would be a bad thing for us right now - also doesn't hurt that the body is a bit more mature and stronger too...

Best wishes to his success... All you wanted was a shot Joffa, now take it with both hands and make it stick.... :thumbsu:

Agree, given his form and that he plays that position, he's a logical inclusion.

Can play inside mid and also rotate forward as a swap with Chappy Duncan Stokes etc.

Although given the 5 day break he's going to be the sub (with hopefully a full game the following week) so where he plays will depend on who he is subbed on for. But he's been playing in and under in the vfl so you'd suspect they plan to use him there on debut also.

Re: Joffa Simpkin promoted

Having said that, who is making way from last week to include him, as well as Scarlett more than likely?

Whoever is sore.

Starts with S and ends in s.
That's my guess.

Geez I sound like Dr Suess

But he's already making way for Scarlett.

Someone else will be 'sore' which is why Joffa is in.

The brother has been impressive for Sainters-works hard, keeps his head under pressure, good skills -different position but hope he is of same ilk.

Why would someone suggest Stokes?

He played a great game last week!

Great might be overstating it -like Stokes but can't recall last great game he had.
