Good luck to the boy from Colac!!!

A lot to like from what i have seen of him at the start of the year, one thing for sure is he won't lack intensity and hunger. Hope it spreads through the whole team.

Those thinking Stokes might also forget we have a player called Billie 'S' medt 'S'
in the side....i think that was the one starting and finishing with 'S' ;)

Good luck to him,and this is not to diminish him in any way,but if we have resorted to elevating rookies to resolve our lack of ability to gather mid field clearances God help us.

Elevating a Rookie to resolve our Key forward issue worked out OK.

Lets not think like that , its more about trying utilise all the players we have been clever enough to accumulate onto our list. We have an in balance atm , so a mature middle age player or two works for us.

Whether the system of "Rookies" needs revision , thats another question.

There is a call for mid season draft today , must be that time of the year. I'd prefer a 4 week contract system than a draft.
Something like :
IF a player has previously twice nominated for the draft he would be allowed to be hired on a 4 week contract It a system that would allow a player to come in , show his ability if a need arises. . If the club like what he offers, then he can play on and must be listed at years end. If not then he can play for another club , on a 4 week contract.

Saints just messed up their list management.

They had one ready to go genuine ruck in McEvoy and a couple of forward rucks in Stanley and Kosi.

McEvoy and Stanley injured and they are screwed. But surely they could have foreseen that as a possibility when analyising their list last trade/draft period?

We've had two rucks out injured all year but at least had a fall back in O. They could have picked a mature ruck and thrown him on the rookie list if they wanted to. No use calling for a mid year draft on the back of that. If they had 4-5 genuine ruck options to begin with and they were all down and out you'd have more sympathy. They rolled the dice and lost, and now wear the consequences.

It's not a knock on Simkin,Turbo more a reflection of where our senior midfielders with the exception of Selwood are at.

Re: Joffa Simpkin promoted

Well you're a silly Billie,aren't you ? :p

I was thinking like PO Scarlo for Smedts, which only left one other S....s;)
Any Way disappointed it had to be Kelly, he missed a couple of games earlier in the year, what was that for?

I remember Groin

Fair enough but don't discount Simpkin.

He's shown a lot of ability in the vfl and banged the door down for nearly 18 months after spending 3 years on our vfl list. One thing he won't lack is the hunger to make the most of his second chance, he'll give it everything he's got.

I hope he has a blinder, but more importantly we build on the improvement of last week all over the ground.

And I think it takes a bit to get your head around the term 'rookie' too - generally it implies someone thats very young with little experience. Thats general among most sports.

But as we have seen with jPod - rookies can be older & Simpkin is 24 so its not as if he is some skinny kid that cant physically hold his own in contests!

Good luck to him, I hope he comes out and smashes it!!

Gone back down to rookie list for Menzel. Strange to elevate him for one quarter but I guess Stringers form is too good to ignore. We can elevate him for free in a few weeks anyway.

The only thing I could see it doing would be to send a message to those already on the senior list not getting a game that their got work to do and there is pressure coming up from behind.
That's all I got.

He may have been promoted to say "hey mate we think you're VFL performances have a lot of merit, keep working hard and a spot on the senior list may be yours at the end of the year"

That's exactly it, since his vfl form over a long period of time deserved a game, it sends the right message to him, and also by extension to the other rookie guys (perform well over an extended period and you too will get your chance).

Fair chance he will be back in the senior team for the Sydney game, Scott seemed to indicate whichever rookie went down would come straight back up as soon as the rules allow.
