I was listening to "Saturday Morning At The Footy" on 882 6PR yesterday morning and they were discussing Jonathon Griffin.

Apparently he was filthy about being dropped this week as he was told that he would continue to get a game even after Sandi's return. He didn't play for East Fremantle yesterday so I wonder what the story is?

There is a rumor going around that he confronted the match committee this week after not making the team's starting line up.

Even though he has a two year contract with Fremantle and did ask to be traded back to WA because of his sick father, he now stated that he either he plays or he wants to be traded back to SA where he still has a house.

With Dean Brogan retiring at the end of this year Port Adelaide is rumored to be very interested in him.

Can this be right?

Sounds like rubbish. He wasnt traded on easy terms by Adelaide because he wasnt getting playing time. It was due to his sick Dad and his desire to be near him.

No. Todd Curley stated that Griffin came up sore and wouldnt play for East Freo.

As for being Griffin being pissed off, that would be true. Freo sold him that him and Sandiland would be in the same. Problem, was that Bradley has play out of his shell.

With Sandilands likely to miss the rest of the season Griffen will be a fixture in the team. That should keep him happy.

Karl Langdon was talking about it, said if he was in the position he would be pissed and want to look for a trade. Didn't like it when Haggers mentioned he actually came back for his ill father.

I would think that there would be no guarantees in footy for any player. 6 years at Adelaide for 40-odd games, and a trade for pick 61 or whatever it was, does not suggest a top-line player who could be guaranteed games. I would also think that a player would be very foolish to "confront" a match committee - this suggests a fair level of aggression, but if he were "seeking clarification" on his position after having been given the suggestion that he would play... then I think fair enough. If he has delivered an ultimatum of any kind, I hope Harvey shows him the door and let's him know in no uncertain terms that no player is bigger than the team, and he can F'off straight back to SA.

Having said all that - I don't believe it anyway.

I clearly remember preseason Harvey stating that Griffin would need to become a good forward to get game time whilst Sandi is in the team. He pretty much said he wouldn't be getting a game otherwise (barring injury). If they had an agreement with Griffin do you think that Harvey would say that before the season even started.

Obviously this doesn't mean Griffin is not dirty about it and if you look at the pregame conference on Wednesday Harvey has a very thinly veiled go at Griffin, although he states he is not signalling out Griffin, that is the way I saw it.

Was definitely rough to loose his spot to Clarke, and very happy we have Griffin this year or else we would be in some serious strife.

Todd said lots of things, none of which were too convincing to be honest. I'm still taking it on face value, but it would not surprise me in the least if there's more to it. It could be simply that Grif thought he was right to go and medical team/coaches etc. thought not. Who knows.

What exactly are you referring to? Are there any links to this conference?

I am sure others will read into it differently, but to me it was a "no offence, but..." type comment

For future reference I suggest that people subscribe to the Dockers Youtube channel (or watch them on the FFC site) because the reporting of these conferences in the media is usually inaccurate and a lot of people on here use this second hand information instead of going to the source.

You'd hope nobody would be stupid enough to gurrentee Griffin getting a game. The only issue I can see is where he stands in relation to Clarke being selected, but you'd hope he'd accept the challenge of competing for a spot against him.

The thing is though, Griffin clearly outplayed Clarke in the past couple of weeks, so there shouldn't have been any competition at all. Even if there was, Griffin should have been the one getting the nod for the second ruck spot every time. Just seems really unfair on the bloke (if he is indeed fit, and not being rested/held back) - playing the best footy of his career and he gets dropped, while an inferior performer remains in the Dockers' side.

So a bloke who was struggling for a game at Adelaide, who wanted a trade back home to be with family, and whose family were foundation members, is shitty at the club for being dropped for the number one ruck in the competition.

Excuse me if I think this story is utter rubbish. This story seems like one of those 1 + 1 = 3 rumours where the media simply assume that because a player is dropped he is disgruntled.

Go away, you Champion Data pest.

The coaching staff want a mobile extra tall who goes third man up in the ruck, which is Clarke. No team can carry two lumbering ruckmen like Griffin and Sandilands.

I mean, Griffin has better Champion Data numbers than McPharlin. Should we have dropped McPharlin?

I mentioned in passing that Griffin has statistically compared favourably to Sandilands this season, but where did I mention stats in the Griffin vs. Clarke argument?

Fair enough, I just thought Griffin was stiff to lose his spot regardless of playing style/mobility, because he was among your best players in every game he's played for you this season. I thought you might want to ease Sandi back in this week, and have an in-form back up there to call on during the game whenever needed, maybe splitting their time in the ruck 50-50. I'm just an outside observer who just watches your games for fun, instead of studying them closely like most supporters would, so I obviously wouldn't be as knowledgeable as to what your team is about and what the coaching staff generally like to do.

I mean, Griffin has better Champion Data numbers than McPharlin. Should we have dropped McPharlin?

Seeing that Griffin and McPharlin play entirely different roles, obviously not. I never mentioned Champion Data or made any stats-based argument in the first place, so I'm not sure where you're coming from with this anyway.

This is some over the top reporting. What footy player would be happy about being dropped? None. It's called being a competitor. These are competitive people in a competitive environment and sometimes people get pissed off. Do we want players who aren't passionate about being in the team? Do we want a coach who doesn't make the changes he wants because he's scared of offending the players? FFS.

Langdon, go back to selling blinds because you have NFI.

:thumbsu:

Langdon is just stirring trying to incite ill will and stir the anti-Freo pot. What player in their right mind talks trades after being dropped once. If he were being consistently left out when there is a place for him, ok, maybe talk about it. Once? GTFO.

Langdon, you believe him ???????, he makes Troy Buswell sound reputable !!!!.

Here's a hint, if you listen to Redneck Radio, what do you expect ??.

It was also written in the Sunday Times that Griffin is unhappy and may be trade bait for GWS. Think it might have been Langdon who wrote the article.

Its all bullshite as if he would request a trade after requesting to come back home for family reasons, the weagles are going well so Carl and Kim are laying into Freo with gusto

Griffen must have been aware before he was traded to freo that he would be a backup for Sandilands.

This.^ and as Clay mentioned he shouldn't be upset moving aside for the number one monster ruck in the comp. Still, he has performed well in his games played for Freo' thus far.

Griffen had hip/groin problems in preseason that would have to be "managed". He's carried a big load for a month, he is bound to be sore.

Take a look back to the expression on his face after he roved his own tap to snap a goal, very similar to the Tarrant jumper pulling expression after kicking a couple against Adelaide.

He is happy.

If you hear a rumour about a disgruntled tall at Fremantle, it's Zach or Anthony.
