He had a reasonable game on the weekend for the Devils against Springvale amassing a lazy 47 possessions from a half back flank in a losing side

I must admit I never noticed him at Carlton and was wondering why he got the chop?

I've probably just answered that one myself ;)

He's one of those players that play very well in the seconds, but not good enough in the seniors. He can match it with players similar to his standard, but not players who can actually play in AFL level.

Actually I am still annoyed that Jordie got the chop ahead of some other players. Played quite well in trying circumstances last year with the only query on him being accountability for his opponent. In a wooden spoon side under pressure, he was hardly on his own and even Kouta has accountability queries over him this year because he is chasing the ball to make things happen rather than go defensive.

Doering is a good footballer and I suspect he was not promoted again after last year because the Blues thought they were getting Goddard and Wells to strengthen their midfield stocks.

Still yet to find anyone that can adequately explain what the hell Air Jordan did wrong last year.

Nah, he was a lemon just like Andrew Merrington.

Both of them are Seconds Champs & Firsts Chumps !! They blitz in the magoos but can't transform that form into the senior team.

You are talking about our whole list bar a couple. Would still like some examples as to how Jordan failed to stack up to the rest of our list last year.

He couldn't cut it in the seniors ODN, he wasn't the only one I might add but he drew the short straw. If the club could have replaced all of the players they wanted too they would have flicked around 18 players in the one hit. He was deemed more expendable than others, that's the luck of the draw. He will be joined by another 12 this year as the deadwood gets chopped once again.

I hear the call that he couldn't cut it and it is used often and by many. Problem is that I have asked the question a fair bit and offered examples of why he was a decent player and when he showed it in the seniors but the only concrete offering I have seen is that his opponent had got too much of the ball while Jordie was off doing his own thing. That sort of thing is happening this year too as the few players with talent try to run forward of the ball and get caught out.

Jordan has great quick hands, decent kicking skills and is a fair reader of the play. He doesn't mind getting out lightning handballs off the ground, doesn't mind chasing, kicked a couple of valuable goals last season by running hard inside 50 and really had knuckled down after perceived attitude problems saw him previously delisted. There is far more to this than his onfield performances. Wayne Brittain crucified him by dragging him off the ground after he picked up 7 or 8 touches for a quarter. Could never fathom it. Britts also chose to bench Thornton regularly who we know has responded beautifully to more game time.

There were some personality clashes at the club I believe.

I also think that he was blamed for that kick after the siren loss against Hawthorn compliments of Dixon. He never seemed to recover from that game and everyone wanted his head on a stick thereafter. I seem to recall there was some discipline issues with him as well. He was no fave of anyone's (apart from yourself obviously) and always seemed on the outer no matter how many zillions of touches he got in the magoos.

It always makes me wonder if he was any good at all, surely he would have been picked up after we flicked him. However, he didn't go far with us and he did spend time at Essendon beforehand so I'm more than convinced he wasn't up to it, if he was then he would still be at the club.

By the way, did he have a right foot at all ??

Adds weight to the claim it was not football talent that saw him disappear from the AFL but other undisclosed matters.

Right foot? Probably not but then not being skilled on both sides is a common trait in our sides at the minute.

Based on what I saw I'd have him ahead of Murphy even tho he had the not-very-accountable prob Murph has. But unlike Murph he has seen the inside of a pack, pretty good below his knees and can take an overhead mark while other players are in the vicinity. Did get 20 possies in a half of AFL footy and played some reasonably good games for the Blues last year. Towards the end of '02 spent most of his time on the bench so it seems his fate was decided before the season ended. Must have been a bit of a head case because he certainly could play - Essendon didn't waste anytime getting rid of him and no one else wanted him.

My sentiments exactly Java, he was certainly no dud on the field.

I don't know about that one ODN, no club flicks gun players so he must've had 'DUD' pencilled next to his name somewhere in his bio.

And by the way Java, I'm still waiting for that afternoon of free beer from you at The Oaks.

Didn't the Blues once flick a young man who would eventually be known as 'Diesel'?

Yes, but it so did Geelong too, only Sydney realised his worth. But I can't see the correlation between Williams & Doering, it's Rolls Royce V Holden Commodore for mine.
Just proving the point that delisting doesn't necessarily always spell 'DUD'. There can be a myriad of reasons and I think that Doering's departure falls somewhere among them.

It seems that you are his biggest (and possibly only) fan judging by the defence you are mounting here. If the guy got flicked unnecessarily then that is poor management by the club, however, he hasn't been picked up by another club and did spend some time at Essendon before us. This tells me that he isn't considered worthy of a spot on any AFL list.

Could he be redrafted by a club ?? It's possible I suppose but with playing lists being reduced to the bare minimum, there aren't too many who will take a punt on a guy who has already had two chances already.

What this illustrates is that when a player is given an opportunity to play footy at the highest level, they should embrace it with open arms. It appears that Jordan Doering didn't embrace his chance hard enough and has squandered what may have been a solid career due to various faults. I'd suggest the majority of them were on his side, not the club's though !!

Actually he had a fair bit of support last year from a lot of supporters and a few dissenters like myself when he was delisted. Have not argued the point that he obviously had faults but disagree with the word dud to describe his onfield prowess. Would love to sit down and dissect all of his games with someone if they have the tapes. I can only think of one game where he was poor. Am still to hear any valid criticism of his playing style and can only assume that off field issues saw the end of him. Don't know, we are talking about a club that kept playing Mick Mansfield week in week out, some things are hard to fathom.

For what it is worth I have no pets at the club and no whipping boys either, just call it as I see it performance by performance.:)
