Hitouts are meaningless stats unless you win the hit out to advantage.
The three posts before this one had me scratching my head wondering if people watch the game or just follow the app for stats. Sweet had a poor game. Won hit-outs but they rarely advantaged us and sometimes went straight to opposition. Was undisciplined with at least one tackle after stoppage and meekly surrendered in more than one marking contest, the most memorable of which against Sharman cost us a goal. Was the worst he’s played in over ten matches.

Offers nothing around the ground. As mentioned he needs to be able to take a mark or he leaves us rendered useless down the line. Soldo looks to be completely checked out so Sweet is probably our only option moving forward. Not sure if Dante will ever make it but he has shown some signs.

I would give him a few more weeks. If Soldo pulls something out of his arse and plays so well that he demands selection, I would not hesitate to select him over Sweet. Same with Dante as well.

I have a feeling that Jordan Sweet is the best option we have atm but he is not the complete answer to our ruck dilemma.

I am not sure if Dante Visentini is the answer either, he is now 22 and in six AFL games he averages one mark a game and 20 hit outs. Perhaps the only way to find out if Dante has what it takes is to give him an extended crack at it. Maybe stick with Sweet for few more weeks and see what happens then try Visentini if things do not improve.

The argument is a bit tiresome I know but our lack of a dominant ruck option is yet another example of Ken Hinkley's inability to develop tall players. As I have posted previously Todd Marshall is about the only 195cm plus player that has amounted to anything under Hinkley.

Throughout the Hinkley era, we’ve had one AA year from a KPF (Dixon) and one from a KPD (Aliir) with no AA ruck years. Compare that to the first 12 years of our AFL existence. This is on the collective group of individuals responsible for our list build, list development and prioritising the wrong types of players time and time again.

I was happy with Sweet on the weekend.

As people have said, he was hitting to their advantage more than ours which was bad but the Saints midfielder killed us in all areas of play against our midfield.

What I was really happy about is that Rowan Marshall didn't get off the leash and have a huge game. Last game, Marshall picked up a lazy 29 possies and 9 marks and the week before that 23 and 12.

So he wasn't perfect but not bad.

I thought Sweet had a decent game - Marshall is one of the best rucks in the comp and didn't have a massive influence.

The taps to advantage is as much our midfielders fault as it is Sweet.

Around the ground, when we use him, he usually competes well, but we don't really target him in contests often.

Ruckwork was good but he didn't take a mark in field play. Jordan is doing the job as a ruckman but it would be nice if he could take four or five marks around the ground per game.
Very much this, Love Jordan’s endeavour but he is a liability after contest, play a kick behind the footy and intercept mark or Ruck and sprint forward to be an option inside forward 50. He Rucks/Wrestle’s and then checks out… like the rest of our Midfielders, good at what they do well, but to unbalanced/unaccountable. Even Drew, our defensive Dawg, can’t be arsed defending in 2025, they all know it’s a lost year Ken is not good enough but we lack conviction to arse the loser and that is exactly how we are playing!

Just needs to take a few more marks around the ground now to round out his game. Much better at his ground ball gets than he was when he arrived.
