The way Adelaideans overrate Henley Beach is hilarious.

Would suggest that if you think Henley is overrated, you probably haven’t spent much time in other capital cities or overseas. We’re absolutely blessed in Australia with our access to quality beaches. It’s also incredibly rare to be able to afford to live so close to both a beach and your workplace, especially that close to the CBD.

Yeah, I take the dumb stuff for what he does 90% of games which is good.

There’s something not right with how he rucks and where our players are positioned at the ball ups.
He’s getting plenty of the taps but they are going to the opposition, there’s a communication problem and it’s not being fixed.
Was the same under Hinkley.

Adelaide beaches as i remember them where top class.
You could walk into the water without needing safety boots on from tons of rocks like you get at so called better beaches outside of SA.

Lobbe had one good year and we locked him in long term.
It’s been the norm with Port, you play one good year and your set for life.

Yeah he is having some brain farts but overall I think he is having a pretty good year so I’m surprised all the negativity on this thread.

If we are going to excuse georgiades horrible set shots or allir’s turnovers because of all the good they do I think we need to cut Sweety a bit of slack.

To be honest we’ve had so many players do dumb shit when the game has got tight that it seems unfair to me to single out players.

The return on a very low trade investment has been great.

We went for Grundy and he chose Sydney, not sure what the club exactly did wrong, Grundy comes across as someone that would’ve always chose Sydney too.

And wtf is wrong with Henley Beach?

Lobbe was absolutely terrible except for 2014 when he was coached by Shaun Rehn. Sweet is just as bad. Having Lobbe as ruck coach is flipping ridiculous.

Averaging second highest HO to advantage numbers in the league and is actually a pretty good mark, unlike Lobbe. They really aren’t similar at all.

It is if you're a foody player making 300k+ a year, plus if you're being traded in it's probably more like double that

Sweet is no world beater but he is the best we have got atm. He isn't having a bad season and he is 6th in the AFL averages for hit outs in 2026.

I don't think we would be talking much about Sweet if he didn't do 2 absolute dead shit ruck moves that essentially handed the game over in back to back weeks.

Punching forward instead of killing the ball in the showdown, and then hitting boundary side instead of getting it going our way on Friday night are just inexcusable skill executions. Yes Butters got sucked into the contest, but there is not a single situation where hitting boundary side is effective with where the game was.

Port has a lot of low footy IQ players on its list. I would go as far to say Sweet has the lowest of the lot.



I can see why Carr started Vis in round 1, if only to keep this muppet out of the team. The problem being, that whilst I wouldn't consider Vis to be a low IQ player, he's just not good, so they have to play Sweet anyway.

Not getting Grundy a few years back hurt this team far more than anyone would be willing to admit.

Agreed re Grundy, Max Gawn is the best ruckman in the comp but Grundy isn't a long way behind him!

If Port had Grundy putting the ball on a platter to Butters and JHF I suspect the the team would be scoring more goals, plus when required he would know what a ruckman needs to do to protect a narrow lead late in games.

He and his manager just used it as leverage to dictate terms to 3 clubs

The Showdown was a horrible mistake, but against the Dogs the place where Sweet was trying to get the ball was a tap to Butters, before Butters decided to run in and try and compete for the ruck tap.

It ended up being Sanders, the guy who was sticking to Butters shoulder all game that ran off with the ball. Maybe Zak should've held his position in the structure?

And the amount of times during the game I saw the ball hit forward of the centre square stoppage, only for it to be taken by a Bulldogs half back while our half forwards stood at the edge of the square with their thumbs up their arse.

And Phil Walsh ran the midfield. Probably meant that we had a lot of work done in setting up our midfield structures to match the ruckman. Its been pretty woeful since then. Exception being a bit of Paddy Ryder having a ridiculous season filled with being able to tap it anywhere.
