Toast Josh Dunkley

He was really good in 2016, among our best young players. He hasn’t progressed since then as we’d like, but he’s been hit by injuries and some loss of form.

If you’re going to judge players & list management based on last night’s game, I’d drink a long cool glass of calm the f**k down. Dunks was played all over the place. Was no better or worse than 3/4 of the team.

What does he give us? He’s slow, can’t kick a goal to save his life, gives up on a lot of contests, has marking ability, sometimes gets in and under. I can see why Sydney passed, thanks.

When does he give up?! Name one instance, just one. That’s talking sh1t, which devalues the rest of your post.

I’m judging his year, not just last night, cheers!

Did you watch last night’s game? 2nd qtr, we had the fast break, Dunkley was running into the open goal, gathered the ball, got tackled, all he had to do was get it out as we had another player open, but he just gave up and put his hands away. Did not try at all. Why don’t you watch the games before commenting champ?

Yep, 23:43 into the quarter. Watch it again and see how wrong you are on every detail... champ.

I did watch it again, and I’ll stick to what I said, failed to get the ball out quickly. Did you see his game against Sydney? 4 behinds and THAT dropped mark. It’s not even just those two games, he continued to miss goals at crucial times last year. If we keep him, then we need to get him out of the forward line.

Play him midfield for a few weeks and see how he goes. I thought he was good at times against Brisbane in the middle.

Jesus, are we really now at a point of a massive over reaction, to trade away one of our more solid bottom 22 players?
For a team with little depth at this point in time, we should trade away one of our starting 22 when in form, at worst solid depth/fringe player?
We will have absolutely no one in the bottom half to the team to compliment our good players

Heaps of players most here would cut or trade before Dunkley. People need to stop overreacting on young players who haven't even hit 50 games experience

I wonder if the accidental clash with Picko has affected him. He seems very inconsistent and is not playing with the same intensity. I hope these two things are not connected, though I would understand if they were (not that he should feel in any way responsible).

Dunkley should be played as a dour back pocket.
He's slow but can take a grab and reads the ball well in the air - has defender written all over him.
Hide him down back with all the other spazzo kicks

Dunkley is a funny one, can look so so good at times. His start to the year was extremely good, that dropped mark against Sydney really ****ed him though and he hasnt looked the same since. He does have a few glaring weaknesses though that look like they can hold him back from being a great player. IMO he will need to really develop his inside game as a real big strength to become a better than average player. Probably hasnt been given that opportunity yet though.

His forward craft as a full time forward isnt the best but as a resting forward he's better than most mids. If he can end up as a 60/40 mid/fwd I think thats his best chance at being a very good player. Can see him being a very handy midfield rotation who could end up with 30 goals a year. And theres definitely a spot in the side for that.

Only problem is when you rely on him and Gowers as your main mediums inside 50 it can hurt you really bad as theyre both so poor from a set shot. If they can clean it up to be at least league average. Throw in a good tall or two alongside them and you start to get a really really dangerous group of marking players, especially if those two are taking the 3rd/4th defenders.

Let’s trade him. We also should have traded Macrae and Hunter should have gone for Josh Walker.

Let’s also trade Dahlhaus, too. Can we piss Liber off as well?

F me... definition of reactionary.

Yeah, nothing like throwing the baby out with the bath water.

I can’t see why Dunks can’t become a reasonable version of the Swans Kennedy. Big, strong and able to kick a goal or two. Kennedy is not really the prettiest kick either.

Giving Dunks away could well end up as the same result for us as it has for the Hawks.

This thread has gotten the response it deserves thankfully. What would you be hoping for if we took him to market?

Well well well, just been dropped. Obviously the coaches/MC share my views!
Getting dropped doesn't equate to the MC seeing him as not being up to it. So no. Not obviously. At all.

If we traded or delisted everyone that got dropped every once in a while we wouldn't have much of a team left.

Your thread remains shit.

Probably not in the way the silly OP intended tho...

Just as good as the usual boring shit that you post!

So if I make a thread about trading Bont I would be not boring, and therefore a good poster?

Igloo makes good points. Bont and Morris are the only two players which comes to mind which we haven't dropped. In about round 4 everyone thought Dunkley was developing great. He's going through a form slump. Perspective!

A genuine big bodied midfielder playing a forward role that requires solid set shot kicking. Of course he will be out of sorts. Put him in the bloody guts. This is purely for need due to crappy list management and drafting for needs. We need pure forwards.
This is the same for Caleb Daniel, again he is out of form and playing a role he is not suited to.
