What should be done with him? I can't see him starting in our best 22 next year if Dawes is to come in and cement his spot as a key forward. Our forward line would become to tall. He can't physically last a full season and is unable to play his old 'ruck-rover' type role in the side, let alone be our main ruckman. He could only be seen as a back up ruckman for Wood (if he gets injured).

IMO he must be moved on for a late first rounder to second rounder this trade week or in a deal that could get ourselves a more established ruckman.

Thoughts on him guys?

I agree with the back up to Wood. He gets destroyed at centre bounces against bigger ruckman and can't seem to get off the ground anymore. He's been carrying too many other wannabe ruckmen for too long.... (insert Richards here).

I honestly don't think any club would be interested, even for a second rounder pick...

He is deffs in our best 22 we have no one else who can ruck apart from woody

Who is going to give up a first or second rounder for a ruckman who can't play out a full season or play as a main ruck? Fraser is worth 1000 times more to Collingwood than he is to anyone else. No club will trade for him.

Plenty, look at the stats among ruckmen, forget the dinosaur stats, look at the ones among the new prototype running ruckmen, Fraser is in the top 3 or 4 in the league.

But he can't play out a full season or play as a number 1 ruck and he was never a great ruckman to begin with. Factor in his age and his value takes a huge hit. Would you be happy to give up pick 14 for a player from another club in the same condition as Fraser?

There are no dinosaurs anymore. Clubs won't play a tall who can only tap the ball. Even Sandilands picks up good figures around the ground. Fraser will be finished by the end of 2010 unless he becomes a stay at home FF.

If this is true we'd be crazy not to trade him. Unfortunately it isn't. Cox, Sandilands, Clarke, McIntosh, Ottens, Gardiener.

Then there are guys like Ryder, Hille.

Unfortunately Josh's body is stopping him from playing the role of "the new prototype ruck" his around the ground work this year was hardly the standard it has been and his ruck work has never been good to crash hot.

If we traded Fraser, which I'm not sure would be a good idea considering his value wouldn't be to high, would the plan be to trade for anther ruckman or have Wood go it alone with pinch hitters? I much prefer having 2 ruckman in the side, I don't rate the tactic of 1 ruckman with pinch hitters, so if Fraser was to go I think getting someone else should be a priority.

hes just about finished i reckon :(, i was watching the 02 grand final last week and he could do the lot, now a days, its like he moves in slow motion, ive got no idea of what we should do with him , i dont want us to trade him coz hes a nice guy.

Face it, we are stuck with Fraser. We have no choice but to use him as a second ruck. He cannot play anywhere else, and noone else will want him for a reasonably high pick. If Fraser becomes part of a trade deal, it will not involve a first round draft pick. As we are badly off for Rucks, we have to keep Fraser.

Not sure if he should be traded, but he's position needs to be re-evaluated. Forward pocket for the most part, with 10 - 15% on the ball.

When was the last time you saw Frasrer take a contested mark? Or ever??

What should be done with him?

I say MM dumps him at FullForward and tell him he is NOT to come outside the forward 50 arc!! Do nothing other than kick a cagillion balls through the big sticks from all distances and angles over the pre season develop some marking and kicking skills and make yourself useful son by kicking us 40-50goals for the season.. THEN (and only then) are you warranted with a spot in our best 22.

If not, i say we cut our losses.. even get a 2nd rounder for him, on-pass it to someone else and a player for a higher 2nd rounder or established inside midfielder or a ruckman!!

Fraser has had a shocking injury burden the last 3 years.
This year Wood showed enough to at least give Josh some relief and he is probably going into this pre-season in the best nick he has been for many years.

I say give him a good pre-season and see how how goes sharing the ruck next year from a fully fit base.

He has never really fulfilled his potential but then he has had to ruck solo for far too long, and having said this he has done a great job considering.

Let's roll the dice one more time.:thumbsu:
