In one of the other threads, I raised a point about Josh Hunt and how effective he could be playing off a wing/half forward and maybe even having a stint in the midfield.

I reckon he could be really effective in this role.

Thoughts?

Drop a bit of that muscle mass and he could be great!

I'd love him to play more like Stewie Dew in his prime. Crashing through the middle and nailing them from 60

I don't think he is fast enough for the wings but he could definately be a good half forward flanker. Particularly with his ability to kick the ball a long way, could be useful if the flood is on to kick few ala Ben Graham style. Think I read somewhere that Bomber said in the UK that he may play up forward next year anyway.

He is fast enough. Played on Aaron Davey not long ago and did a reasonably job.

Josh will have a huge pre-season and a good 2007.

He's going to be costly wherever he plays.
Disagree, would love to see him on the half forward line. A guy who can kick the ball and could negate really attacking HB types such as McLeod, Gilbee and Bowden

Agree to a ceratin extent, but hopefully the errors will be less costly further up the ground.

Lord knows we can't have Hunt and Wojcinski in the same defensive 50m.

so you want a HF who plays a defensive roll on HB's?

I think Josh should get fitter but only so he can do the same role as gilbee, gram and swan did this year. That is to play defensively when the opposition have the ball but as soon as we get it be the go to man across halfback and then run with the ball (if possible) and deliver lace out to our forwards on the lead. He could become a 60-100m player in this role.

I agree. Play him on a wing and let him just get the footy.

He was great in 2004 but lost confidence last year and became too obsessed with his opponent in 2005 and forgot to go and get the ball. In 2004 he was great, took it up to the opposition and was unbeatable at times.

He's a great kick, we should use it more up the middle and it would be great to see him passing it to Nathan and Hawkins regularly next year.

Hunt has several unique gifts.
1. He is hard to tackle
2. He has a powerful long kick
3. He is acurate with his kicking

I can see several scenarios where he would be a major asset:

Scenario 1:
Nathan leads out from CHF takes mark 7 a quickly dishes out to Hunt who kicks a 50 meter stab pass from about 80 out hiting a the lead on the chest.

Scenario 2:
Flood is on and we have the ball 60 meters out, Hunt gets the handball play on and sends in a worm burner to a forward on a tight lead.

Scenario 3:
Super goals from marks taken just outside 50

Scenario 4:
Bartel/Corey dish out to Hunt who breaks a tackle and kicks inside 50 target.

He may overrun a bouncing ball, lose his feet, give off a bad handball or even duck his head in a marking contest. But he is a moral to spot a bloke and hit him on the chest with a stab pass on the run.

Couldn't agree more, in the middle with stints up forward he could be a potent weapon, he can win the ball okay, and with his kicking ability it's hard to believe he wouldn't nail goals on a regular basis.

Quote .................. "Lord knows we can't have Hunt and Wojcinski in the same defensive 50m."

Like to see them both played in a variety of roles across and forward of the center line myself, rather then having them play a negative role, just let them have their head and have the opposition worry about stopping them.

Agreed - in 2004 I had such confidence in him to nail a target 50m away. These days I don't.

Remember with his kick ins, he'd pinpoint them to someone on the intersection of the 50m arc and the boundary line, perfect every time.

That's too harsh for someone who had such a great year the year before. I'm not sure where Josh's head is at but players that can kick that well aren't falling from the sky. He is too slow on a leading forward so I don't think he is really suited in a defensive role. A great accurate long kick on the run as well as good overhead skills and you have a classic HFF.
A few of the Geelong boys need to re-invent themselves and I think he is one of them, Ling also is good overhead, has strong hands and is an accurate kick, he is also HFF material.

His 2005 wasn't 'such a great year'. I would say that about his 2004, but not 2005.

* I'd like to see Hunt play ocassionally as an attacking winger while Rooke can drop back into defence.
* Ling to rotate with either Chapman or Ablett or both, so he plays as a forward. Ling is a terrific mark and has a lovely set shot.
* Milburn to have role across half forward from time to time while Rooke falls into defence and Gazza or Chappy move up into the midfield.

Called it ages ago. MediocreMagic35 just copying what everyone's been saying for 12 months and claiming it as his own brilliant revelation.
