B hunt scarlett harley
HB enright milburn mackie
saw Egan today , He is still a very long way off coming back.Still looks strong, when Egan comes back however would you imagine Hunt will lose his spot there, or will an Enright/Mackie push up the ground a bit more?

People are far to harsh on josh hunt, hes not great on the defensive, but on the offence hes potent.
Great point there, on the offence, hes potent....thats why he should be taken out of the last line role, and put into a midfield, half back/ sweeper type role, where he can be that attacking weapon, the 50-60 drop punts on the chest, i think thats how he could be used.....
IMO Harry Taylor has the 3rd tall spot taken up to start the year...

This popular opinion is incorrect in most cases. Hunt's role has nothing AT ALL to do with Egan's.
FACT- Harley gets his ass torn apart by good small forwards (Ebert,Brown,Milne,B.Johnson etc.) Who do you play on these guys when you remove Hunt and replace him with Egan??? Mackie can't play on small forwards. Too slow, gets beaten easily in one on one contests etc, etc.
I've said this many times but no one listens. Picking the team(especially defenders) is about matching up the opposition, not picking your favorites.
Rooke is another example. He played great footy BEFORE his injury, has shown barely enough to warrant a spot since... I actually don't think he has a spot. He has contributed very little since coming back but is exempt from flamings because he's tough at the ball, and a fan favorite. Throwing yourself around like a mad man may look impressive, but there is a bloke named Prismal that I would play before Rooke in a heart beat. I understand they want game time into Rooke to get him back but my gut tells me he's finished... at least his best has past him.

He is only just really coming back from nearly a whole season out with injury, and you are saying he is basically finished?

I question that "fact". Brad Johnson definitely has Harley number but the others? Harley was outstanding on just about every small forward this year.
- Ebert kicked 4 goals in 3 games against Geelong in 07
- Milne did nothing
- Nathan Brown didn't even play against Geelong
- Harley destroyed Corey Jones
Other than Brad Johnson I am struggling to think of one occasion where he was beaten.

Can't you recall Geelong V StKilda last year at the dome for example? Reiwoldt gave him a hiding when Egan was off the ground briefly. He got them back in the game single handed while on Harley.
Harley VERY rarely plays on dangerous forwards for that reason, he's not matched well against them... hence my point.
Harley destroyed a Corey Jones that could barely walk let alone play near his best. If you want to compare him with Hunt, his disposal is possibly the worst in the team... while Hunts is the best.
THE POINT IS, Harley is not a great key position defender... he is an exceptional 3rd man to a contest.
After re-reading this I'm unsure why I bothered replying to your garbage anyway. If you honestly believe this statement you need to take a much harder look at the game my friend.![]()
I'm assuming you have 2 eyes... don't watch the game with 1.![]()
You need to reread your post and mine. I never said Harley was interchangeable with Hunt. I don't think they are but I took issue with your so called facts.
" FACT- Harley gets his ass torn apart by good small forwards (Ebert,Brown,Milne,B.Johnson etc.)"
What does Reiwoldt have to do with this fact? It is completely irrelevant. Reiwoldts is a CHF and your wrong about Harley's disposal, while not as good as Hunt's it is still alright.
"THE POINT IS, Harley is not a great key position defender... he is an exceptional 3rd man to a contest. "
I agree with that but I would also say he proved his worth on small opponents if needed. Most weeks he had a man and did a captains job.
,,,,,The FACT being he very, very rarely gets put on dangerous talls or smalls for the reason that he gets defeated too often. As you've agreed its not his strength to take a key role.
I never agreed with key role I agreed with key position. I think he gets a key role every week and is very good at knowing when to leave his man as the 3rd man up. Something Hunt struggles with to be honest.
See that there is about as good as you can make it sound for the guy... not too convincing. Harley is a great captain, but has great limitations as a player. In my opinion, take away the fact that Harley is captain I doubt many would argue he would be the most suitable player to drop for Egan.
To make it sound better.....Harley was
- 2nd in the league from marks from opposition kicks
- 2nd in the league for contested marks from opposition kicks.
(despite missing a number of games to injury)
- He was the 3rd most effective spoiler IN THE LEAGUE behind Glass and Egan.
What more do you want from a defender? He is nowhere near being dropped, to be honest I think Hunt is safe too.
