Tom Boyd would 100% disagree.
Big difference there being that WB's offer to him absolutely blew everyone else's offer to him out of the water though. In terms of both length of contract and the amount per year.

We for instance were apparently having or preparing to have a big crack at him, yet our offer was apparently only $750K PA. Making WB's offer 33% more PA, AND presumably for at least two more years!

Is North's offer to Kelly 33% higher PA than the next best AND for at least a couple more years? Very, very highly unlikely. If it is though, you'll probably land him for sure!

Another big advantage WB had over other teams was that it all happened so quickly and while he was contracted.

This time around other clubs have had months to get their minds around how much it's likely to take to land Kelly though, because you guys put your cards on the table very early on and it became public. Lots of time for clubs to have the necessary board meetings and so-on to authorise monster counter-offers.

WB also had the fact GWS wanted Griffen as leverage that other clubs didn't have. No other club was likely to be able to entice GWS to trade Boyd that year, as he was still contracted, so that was another reason for Boyd to take the opportunity to go there.

It got him home a year earlier than he likely would have otherwise and it got him a monster contract. Plus they had serious elite young talent already on their books in Bontempelli, Liberatore, Stringer and Macrae.

The circumstances this time around are very different because:

A: Kelly is uncontracted
B: Most of the main offers to Kelly are probably in the same ballpark per year.
C: It's unlikely that any of the clubs in the race for Kelly have a disgruntled captain that wants to join GWS and who GWS want.

I always fund it amusing posters on big footy know how much a player was offered in the past and how much current players are being offered.

33.3% recurring did make me laugh.

I reckon Essendon are the sleeping giant here
It would be nice to snare Kelly, but we won't have the money or probably the length of contract that other clubs have thrown. Only chance of attracting him would be if he thought we were his best shot of the ultimate success, and there isn't much splitting us from the saints in that regard but the saints would be able to offer him a lot more.

We'll be going harder at Hopper, and hoping some of our other guys make the leap next year.

How about you answer my question from that post you quoted before I answer any more of yours?
Sure - I think 33.3% of the time posters close their eyes and throw darts at a dart board to come up with figures.

0.00226% you will hit the bulls eyes. But please keep throwing those darts.

This post is pretty bang on imo.

Wouldn't be surprised if he was at Carlton next year, half his mates are there, they have money, picks and are a big club.
Sorry kangas and saints but you miss again.
This guy. I like it.

If we base it on criteria...what is likely to be done:

1) Money - This is probably the most important one. And I can see him nominating based on this alone if the disparity is large enough. North > Carlton = St Kilda
2) Assets - Don't think this is really a factor as all the clubs will be able to find assets to get it done. St Kilda have the assets already so I'd give them the slight edge. We have Gibbs leaving so will have other picks, but again very slight difference here. St Kilda > Carlton > North
3) Chance of Success currently. St Kilda list is definitely ahead, probably 2 years ahead of the Blues. North still on the way down. St Kidla > Carlton > North
4) Chance of Success longterm. I'm obviously biased here but think we have the best KPPs of the group, and probably the highest ceiling stars at this stage. Cripps, Weitering and Curnow are AA potentials. The other two clubs have great players too of course, but I'd rather our talent. Carlton > St Kilda > North
5) Existing Players. Half our list were drafted by GWS originally. Carlton >> St Kilda = North
6) Other Connections. SOS may have friendship with him. Carlton > St Kilda = North
7) Coaching - Bolton, Richardson both well respected around the league. I think North may have a bit of uncertainty here moving forward if Scott moves to the sunshine coast. Carlton = St Kilda > North
8) Rumours. Based on media noise, North > Carlton > St Kilda

CARLTON = 4 criteria wins
St Kilda = 3 criteria wins
North = 2 criteria wins

Upon reflection, scientific analysis shows that he is clearly going to Carlton.

If you're going to include all those factors then surely father/son would █████ many other criteria. So North > Carlton

This was a dumb and very biased post

Essendon don't have the ability to match the offers North Melbourne, Carlton and Saint Kilda are making.
Essendon is also a team that is mid ladder 8th-10th (Most likely 8th if R23 results go as expected).
So he can stay at GWS and win finals and potentially flags or go to the other Victorian clubs mentioned and earn more money.
