Kennedy did well enough.

Wonder what the reaction would be if Hansen played the same game though - bet there would still be posters saying he should be dropped.

Mate did you realize how silly this comment is as you typed it? a club leader premiership CHF given a 6 game run after a perfect pre-season has a little more expectation than a younger kid coming in from the WAFL for his first AFL game this year.

Besides if Hasen hit the contest as hard as Kennedy was and took those contested marks I wouldnt be calling for his head. Id say he played an OK game without being outstanding and would deserve his spot the next weekend.

I was bloody sure that Kennedy kicked a goal as well.... did I dream it??? or was it just touched on the line or something???

Probably. But perhaps it should be taken in the context that Hansen has had fairly decent run at CHF AND it would've been an average game for a experienced player (if he did play that way). The fact is he hasn't given us a game like that for sometime. This was Kennedy's first game back in the side for sometime and I think he showed more than Hansen has all year. Just through his physicality.

I like Hansen. He seems like a good bloke and a good leader around the club (apparently). However, he just wasn't giving us much in that forward line and a 21yo quicker, more agile, more physical player playing his first game back did.

If this is the best that Kennedy is capable of in the long run then yes, I would consider it to be a disappointment on the potential he came here with. But his sheer willingness to be involved in the contest and making his presence felt (and his abililty to get there and do it) tells me that he'll work himself into games and bring his players into it as well. Thats what I'm excited about.

I feel for Hansen. You could see he was giving it his all. He really wanted to be in the contest, he just couldn't get there. He didn't have the agility or the speed and try as he might he couldn't assert himself. I don't like the name calling and the slagging off he has copped on these boards but in terms of his effectiveness in the game, I think his detractors have been fairly spot on.

I disagree, Hansen's first game in the side this year was far better.

Signed for 3 years when he came on board I'm pretty sure

Anyway, why on earth would he want to go back to a club that offloaded him to get another player?
If we don't give him more games, he might want to go back to a club that will.

Kennedy was listed in the Best players by The Age in their review of the game.

Okay game from a player that I have seen little of. Kicking a little bit astray perhaps (at least his kicking for goal, but that's common at the eagles right now). I'd like to see him play a little closer to goal and have more shots.

Carlton let him go without so much as a whimper...what does that tell you ?
Tells us bugger all. They were trying to trade for Judd.

Guys i've got the game recorded but haven't been able to watch it yet.
How did he go?
Stats show he had 16 touches and 9 marks, but scored 0.2 and had only 31.25% disposal efficiency. That means only 5 of his disposals being effective. What happened?

Similarly McKinley had 8 touches and only 37.5% efficiency. That works out to be 3 effective disposals, and considering his score in the end was 1.2 it was probably those 3 kicks....
What happened here?

Looked more interested in getting a stat then getting a goal which is very concerning. Its all well and good being a lead up forward but you gotta run back into the 50 as hard as you run out of it. Otherwise your just Ashley Hansne mk 2.

A 6/10 performance but really needs to start having some 8 mark 3 goal games for me to be truly pleased with where he is at

i think kennedy will be a better player for us as he gets more and more games under his belt. i thought his competiveness throughout the game was second to none and his contested marking is great. exactly wat we need, a big boy that can make his presence felt and take a contested mark.

ash for me is finished, doesnt have the pleasure of the gun midfield we had a few years ago and i truly believe those midfielders made him look better then he actually was. was never a big goal kicker but back then we had midfielders that could kick goals aswell. ash has never been a goal threatening forward, he was more the lead up player. now that his role in our football team has changed i dont think he has coped well. kennedy has nothing to lose and everything to gain and i think the future of our forward line relies on him and a couple of others ( mckinley, lecras, ebert).

Hope that you guys give him the chance to prove himself with plenty of games and game time. He may or may not become a star but you will get an honest effort from him. He is one player I would love to still have at Carlton. His attitude is fantastic and we could well do with his passion and integrity at our club. Agree with some of the posters who have mentioned that he will improve greatly with confidence. He has a good pair of hands, good penetration in his kicking and is fast for a big man. As to his hardness it seems like he showed this yesterday.

Hansens first game against Brisbane was only better than Kennedys game against Melbourne because of the goals scored, Kennedy was more effective everywhere else, it was more than enough to retain his spot.

He had nine marks and set up numerous goals just by his competitive nature and attack on the football. Goals will come and should have come given his performance.

If Hansen played the game Kennedy did it would be a marked improvement.

Would have been an improvement yes.

Still wouldn't have stopped posters calling for his head.

Kennedy's game was reasonable - certainly enough to get him a game next week and good enough to justify his selection ahead of Hansen.

I believe that the game is passing Hansen by and that Kennedy looks a more likely option at CHF.

The point I was trying to make is that Hansen is judged very harshly by some posters, and that had it been No 29 playing that game rather than No 17 there would be posters on here reiterating that Hansen is a crab whereas Kennedy is getting due praise.

It's just a beef of mine that some players are judged more harshly than others.

I think it's pretty safe to say Hansen wouldn't have set up the arsey goal Hunter soccered off the ground in the final quarter. That's a perfect example of stats not giving you the full story.

If for some reason that's harsh on Big Red then I apologise.

We can't judge Kennedy the same as Hansen yet even if Kennedy played poorly yesterday because it's Kennedy's 1st game back, where as Hansen has had the time to put the performances on the board this year and yet he hasn't.
Make comparisons of Kennedy to Hansen when both have at least half a dozen games under their belt. Though memories of Hansen's last 2 years don't weigh favorably for him also.

The reason I'm so down on Hansen is that for a long time we've seen his ineptitude and how it's hurting the team.
Now we have a bloke like Kennedy come in and play the game he did and we're all very pleased with how he went. It wasn't so much what his output was to me, it was how he went about it that gave me the hope that this is only the beginning of Kennedy and as well as he played, there's so much more upside to him with the potential he has, with even greater performances to come.
When Kennedy starts adding a couple of goals a game to what he achieved in his 1st game back, he about shuts the door on Hansen and leaves him to be a depth player.

Give Kennedy a couple years as we did Hansen. If Kennedy is a crab in 2 years time, then we can start jumping up and down calling for him to be dropped.
We don't judge Hansen differently. When Hansen started I thought we had a player in him, and we did for a time.
Hansen has been too useless for too long now and the supporters have had enough.

I dont care if Hansen bags 15 a game

Kennedy has shown so much more, put on more pressure and can take a pack mark.

He supplies the same target, can take an overhead grab and brings his teammates into it when he splits packs.

Retire Hansen.

Re: I dont care if Hansen bags 15 a game

Yep. Kennedy has been very good since he's come in. Can take a strong mark and is always applying pressure to the ball carrier when it's coming out. Exciting prospect for sure.

Hansen takes about 3 minutes to turn around and can't seem to take a mark if the ball doesn't hit him directly on the chest.

Re: I dont care if Hansen bags 15 a game

This was obvious from the first practice match I saw him play against Essendon last year. He brings so much more to the table than Hansen, it's not funny.

Re: I dont care if Hansen bags 15 a game

Agree with everything being said.

Kennedy is everything Hansen aint.

One big thing Kennedy has IMO is a bit of mongrel in him (And if you know his old man, you'll know it runs in the family), i really like to see this in a CHF.

He is a player who should play 7+ more years for us at CHF/FF

Thread merged in order to bump another.

Kennedy was very good tonight and showed that he is far and away our best option at CHF.

Hansen becomes the break glass in case of emergency option (i.e when someone is injured)
