And this is relevant to Josh's situation how?

Or are you after a lollipop?

Not everyone steps up to the mark at a young age so you should
And this is relevant to Josh's situation
I lost my wife to a brain tumour a few years back and raised 3 kids, still raising one of them, and they're aboriginal kids, so what is your point exactly?

Or are you after a lollipop?

You are all talk no action.

I am no talk no action.

Common denominator is no action.

So STFU or do something.
Ignorance maybe bliss in your reality, however, those of us who are doing work (or are about to start work) in this sensitive area with the AFL/Mifsud (or other socially responsible organisations) are hardly going to provide details on work they/we are doing in such a public forum. In my experience to date, the AFL is the absolute king when it comes to non-disclosure agreements.

There is a good chance people in this forum are doing a hell of alot to improve outcomes for indigenous people and making Australia a better place. Do not discount this with your generalisations.

Sure Ted.

Fantastic reply.

Terrific response.

Maybe you should be pointing the finger at your white idols in Canberra, and various other parliaments around the country who sit on their hands, hand ball it to yet another committee, or launch a racist tirade against all people the name of an intervention?

But no, you sit here and take pot shots at people who have devoted decades of their lives trying to do the very thing you accuse us of not doing.

You're an idiot Danny and you always have been.

English please couldhavebeen . I have no idea what that means.

Indeed.

Its where the money is going, who controls it, particular families who control it. The dollars spent are achieving stuff all. I'm not sure the solution but pouring more money into the communities as suggested by sliceindice would have no impact.

There's some truth in this. I don't know Josh. I've never been there and don't claim to understand the problems in Yalgoo. But from talking to people who are intimately involved in working with rural and remote communties, it's not just the Aboriginal indisutry but decision making in communities which is part of the problem - he (and it is invariably "he") who shouts loudest decides what happens to the money. Yes this is a broad generalisation, as individual communities have individual problems.

I think money alone is not the answer, there needs to be new ways of thinking about the problems these communities face. Some of the most crazy stupid (but successful) approaches to disadvantage are coming out from the people most impacted in the developing world, not the World Bank and other Western bureaucracies. I'm blown away by the Barefoot College, for example. Who would think you'd be able to take illiterate and uneducated grandmothers from the poorest communities in Africa and Asia, put them together in the "college" for a few weeks and teach them to be solar engineers who then go back to their communites and not only instal solar electrictiy but repair and maintain it. In one fell swoop, they kick massive environmental sustainability, sustainment of infrastructure, gender and educational goals and break down some of the rigid tribal hierarchies that actively prevent development. I see the BC is setting up in Fiji now, so they're in our region now.

Anyway these musings are a bit off topic but hey so is much of the guff I've read in this thread. Participation is the key, and on that subject, I really hope Josh has had some input into his personal development program. If he doesn't understand it or think he needs it then it will do stuff all. But if it works... it could be the start of template for other remote indigenous footballers. Preferably rolled out before a crisis like this erupts.

It's much easier to see someone else's opportunity from third person perspective. Not so much their plight.. There really isn't an apt analogy for what he'd be going through, he'd have cultural obligations, he'd have people mooching off of him that are close to him, he'd have guilt trips laid upon him from every angle. And that's just from his family.. And he'd have his first westernised official professional employment (of all associated concepts are completely foreign to him) with elite expectations of adherence.
I'd wager it'd be pretty hard to 'man up' and do what's best when you're unsure of what "best" is - being pulled in all directions as he is.

I still can't really fathom how people can proclaim to have the simple answers for him - in a lot of cases under 10 words, when there simply aren't any simple answers.

Great post.

I was a complete idiot with regards to common sense, motivation and responsibility when I was 18/19, and I was born with a 120 piece silver cutlery set in my mouth. Anyone who views Josh's situation through their own perspective, without accounting for one of the greatest cultural differences you could find, is plain stupid.

Reverting to type. A common trait

There's a good chance that they've done **** all as well.

Talkfests are boring.

I'm not ignorant, I'm a realist.

Don't think so.

Well you have yet to add anything to the thread at all, except that Simpson is a lazy black bastard and he can GTFO.

We get that.

So why are you here again, if not just to take pot shots at those of us who have a record of action in these matters and actually give a shit about the situation?

You've stated your case, with its thin veneer to cover the bigotry.

Well done.

It's a football forum talking about a Freo football player.

Take all you're so called action to an appropriate forum.

All you and others in this thread are doing is chest beating.

While his circumstances aren't the same as Michael Walters, the reactions on here to the program the club has put in place to get him playing AFL footy are same.

And just leave you to beat your favourite bigot drum?

No, I don't think so.

This was a fabulous thread until you marched in with your "assimilate, harden up or GTFO" bullshit.

Yeah, of course.

As much as it will hurt you to tell you this, you are not the font of all knowledge.

Remember that when you post.

I fully recognise that, however I have clearly forgotten more on the subject than you will ever know.

Again, if you don't like the discussion, there is no reason for you to continue.

You've made your point.

Do you not know what a discussion is?

You've made yours a thousand times.

Apply that rule to yourself.

I'd hardly call 600 or so posts in nearly two years as talking a lot.

People like bushie need slapping around (or pointing out of their own faults) like a red headed stepchild once in a while.

People like him shit me.

I mean in this thread mate.

You're entitled to your opinion but in this case Id say post STFU do gooders (or words there abouts) and then move on.

Let them/us discuss the indigenous aspects and offer your inputs into other threads.

OK, will pop my head in from time to time. May contribute MY opinion at the same time.

I know its an ex-eagle but not a bad read and Lewis makes a couple of valid observations
"Footy can be everything, but it's not everything … and you should never forget where you come from. As long as they've come out of footy with something, made friends, enjoyed what they've done and done the best they can."

Isn't this the most important quote? Isn't this why plenty of guys can't be bothered with the AFL? I don't get it. Who are a bunch of arseholes on a forum to denigrate Simpson's or anyone's character if these are the things they feel – Simpson obviously doesn't forget where he's come from and seemingly won't stop thinking about it. It's not his fault – it's not even a fault. If the typical AFL hard-arse lifestyle isn't his to be had then so be it. I don't know if he'll ever come back to Freo or not, I'm sure the club'll patronise his issues and bridge the two distinctly different worlds, but to berate the guy as lazy or throwing something away... It always seemed weird to me.
