Where do you think he wanted to go? I actually thought he was going to sign with Gold Coast. He did fly over there and did a medical, so this WC did throw me a bit. He probably didn't care at that point. As a delisted footballer, you're looking for any opportunity no matter where it is.
Yeah I thought the same about the Suns.

I may be paranoid but my first thought was WC likely picked him up for his IP. He has intimate knowledge of our game plan after all. And we are among their greatest challengers this year.

I reckon they picked him up because he is a great runner who reads the game well and has neat skills. A lack of composure is his big knock, but that's developable.

If he had a chance to go to the Suns, that's where he should have gone. But agree -- you go where you're wanted.

He might play a few games, be an interesting watch.

there's a few players who moved in the past that i'd like to discuss in detail like we have in this thread. I'm still puzzled with Phil Walsh moving on. I was living in WA at the time so it was hard to keep track of thing. It seemed that he just got on the list and i was getting to like him and the next season he was gone. I'd like to spend a few months on this one please. Des Tuddenham to essendon... that could take years to work through.... peter moore too. No wonder I'm psychologically damaged.

Are you suggesting people who talk about the past a psychologically demaged?

WEST Coast wingman Chris Masten is taking a team-first attitude to getting hard-running recruit Josh Smith up to speed with his role, instead of worrying about the ex-Collingwood utility being a competitor for his position.

Masten joked he was stung "for about 10 minutes" after losing his long-held 2km time trial crown to Smith in January, but in reality the pair have formed a tight bond.

Smith, 25, has turned heads at the Eagles since arriving via the rookie draft, also winning the Yo-Yo test, and shapes as a potential round one debutant.
Finding a spot in a premiership-winning line-up won't be easy, however rule changes to open up the game could work to the elite runners' advantage and Masten was confident they can both fit in the same line-up.

"I think we can both play in the same side. When you get to my age, I start to look at everyone as a competitor," said Masten, who turns 30 in May.

"We're all competing for jobs, but we're also pushing in the same direction and all play together and need to be tight.

"That's how we are here, we're good with that.

"We help each other out as much as we can. I'm just trying to help him learn my role and if he needs to learn other ones, the other boys will be doing the same thing.

"I think he (Smith) can play anywhere with the tank that he's got, he's pretty smart and he's got good skills."

More than likely he will just be a rotation/depth player for the Eagles, and I'd be very surprised if he gets more than a handful of games, barring a number of injuries to the guys ahead of him, but good luck to him.

Seems like it's becoming more common to delist vanilla footballers after 1 season

EFA. They picked him up to cover for Gaff and it was only ever a one year thing. Menzel was another and it will only increase over time. I’d much prefer one year terms to keeping recycled types like Armstrong around for extended periods of time.

What doesn’t sit well is the relocation element. If they were up front in communicating the shortness of the stint to him that’s fine, but I suspect they weren’t. I doubt QLD>VIC>WA in the space of 4 years is easy.
