AFL.com.au can reveal the Bombers have put forward an offer of at least seven years for Weddle, which would take him through to 2033.
With a value of more than a million dollars a year, the deal is estimated to be nudging $10 million across its entirety, placing it as the biggest in Essendon's history.

Don't hold a player hostage you big meanies. He wont even be in contract! So 4 firsts for a 30 year old is the baseline, it’s gonna be hard for the bombers to acquire the 8 firsts needed for a 21 year old weddle
Weddle being out of contract makes an enormous difference, especially when Essendon are expected to be very early in the PSD.So 4 firsts for a 30 year old is the baseline, it’s gonna be hard for the bombers to acquire the 8 firsts needed for a 21 year old weddle
Currently in contract, can’t believe you guys are speaking to him.Don't hold a player hostage you big meanies. He wont even be in contract!
6 firsts thenWeddle being out of contract makes an enormous difference, especially when Essendon are expected to be very early in the PSD.
Essendon were well within their rights to play hardball with Merrett and face no consequences for it. Hawks won’t be able to do the same with Weddle if he decides to take the offer
Cj and worpel contracts cover it, I’m sure we’ll be fine. But let’s be honest, there’s only 1 Vic team that’s getting butters. We’re more likely to land HumphreyCan someone do a "back of the envelope" calc of how big the Butters warchest is if they have to pony up a mil a year for weddle?
CJ and Worps gone and we made a play for Merrett on good coin, i'd say the "warchest" would be fine lolCan someone do a "back of the envelope" calc of how big theButtershumphrey warchest is if they have to pony up a mil a year for weddle?
Weddle will be out of contract.Essington having a crack at Weddle straight after playing hardball with Merrett is pretty ****ing funny.
OOC baby!So 4 firsts for a 30 year old is the baseline, it’s gonna be hard for the bombers to acquire the 8 firsts needed for a 21 year old weddle

Oh so you offered a warchest to a 30 year old with barely any good footy left? Weird list management strategy but you do youCJ and Worps gone and we made a play for Merrett on good coin, i'd say the "warchest" would be fine lol

It's not bad for a first effort but Weddle will likely be looking at a 1.4m p.a contract at Hawthorn if his trajectory continues. Will need to add another 300-400k to get him out of Hawthorn.
Then yeah, the trade capital required to get him out will be nasty.
