I just had a squizz at jacks coleman year form and what stands out like proverbial is just how much the game has changed. Most of his goals were from one on ones. Circa season 2012 and more often than not he's amongst a swarm of defenders.. No surpises there...the modern game makes it bloody hard for a FF.....our coaches have some work to do in creating a structure thatwill max our strengths , coz theyre a mile from achieving that right now. The pacesetters are always ahead of he game, id urge the coaching panel to get it right before its too late..and going in with the same attack as last saturday would be a massive mistake

Jack's also a victim of the talent of those around him. This year we have the mids kicking the goals, rather than TV kicking 40 for the year. He simply doesn't have that second quality forward to take a bit of the focus off him. That said, our forward line is a crowded as buggery at the moment, and they all seem to lead to be same spot constantly.

We desperately need a second and third quality forward, and we need to find a way for the forward line to be opened up somehow.

Yep the game has changed heaps in such a short time. We need vickery to perform it does ease the pressure on jack, if only a little. Perhaps play him on a wing to release him allowing him to run at the ball.

The forward line does need a bit of work. Think cotch, martin, and lids are only part of the solution. Also what's with lids and Martin's (get more pill please) in accuracy?

Really need to upgrade on king and nahas I think the game has gone past true small forwards. Edwards was very good in the dreamtime game. Would love if he could consistently get 17-20+ disposals a game along with tackles and a few goals. The point is Edwards is at least a midfielders size (at least 180cm+ and 80kgs). Think if we could get Connors, white or even arnot (miss helbig) to play that small forward role. We could rotate to the midfield better and hopefully stick more tackles. (im not bagging nahas, his second efforts are fantastic).

Would love astbury to be played as a third tall again or even post. Miller is ok but not great. Next year is probably the right year for a new third tall.

I remember that game against Saints at the dome. He kicked 6 and maybe 4 in a 20 minute stretch, he had the 50 too himself vs 1 or maybe 2 saints defenders. Rossy had no answer but we just weren't quite good enough.

The making of JR came in a game Vs Hawthorn where we got close but a Mitchell tackle on Tuck proved to be match saving. That was the first game I saw him split packs and take great contested grabs.

I actually believe he is a much improved player and just needs a few things to go his way including better spacing in the forward line. He created both the Miller and Edwards goal early in the 3rd and should have got another assist but Miller dropped the ****ing thing.

He has just not had the same accuracy and as a result he is being crucified. Stick with him people, he isnt quick or the biggest bloke but he has some serious footy smarts and tricks that is why he is one of the first selected week in week out.

If he went to Coburg as some have called for he would kick 10 week in week out and I have no doubt about this! If that occurred those same people would be demanding he regain his spot.

The media equates Jacks form in goals, anything under 4 is a poor game regardless of his other contributions. I feel Jack is also trying hard to re-climb the same mountain, his ego was overly inflated by all the adulation in 2010, and he's so desperate to get some bags and some big marks that he's lost sight of working selflessly for his teammates.

I reckon all of the above is right and im certain the coaches are at their wits end on whatntondo coz the reality is last year we averaged 4g between jr and vick ea week, maintaining that would have barely lost us a game. I reckon the first step in dragging jack back into form will be a dangerous teammate that deflects so much of the heat. Thats the wildcard i am anxious for the club to work over rather than dishing up more of the same

You could also look at it the other way Greggy, that he feels he's not contributing effectively enough, and is now over trying so his teammates don't think he's not.

None of us on this board have any idea what his ego is or isn't doing.

One on one is very much a thing of the past.
While Jack's form concerns me, take a look around the rest of the league and see which key forward is tearing it up??? Not many.
Buddy, yeah .. but only has 21 goals. Taylor Walker has 23, Tom hawkins 22, Travis Cloke 19, Podsiadly 19 etc.
These aren't huge numbers after eight rounds! It's getting tough for key forwards.
Jay Schulz booted seven on the weekend but there has been too many huge hauls like that!

Yep, bloody hard for KPP these days. Of Schulz's 7, think he got 4 in the last, when Nth were rubbish and just lied down.

Not to mention, key forwards, especially JR8, are getting scragged, manhandled etc. with little support from the umpires.
Very hard going for the forwards.

I'm not sure Jack's not doing enough, did'nt Dimma say in a recent interview that Jack heads up our forward 50 tackle count ??

The other thing that is easy to forget about our forward line is the quality of backlines they have been playing against. I'm going to reserve a bit of judgement until after they have had a few opportunities to free themselves up against some of the lesser lights of the competition. Hopefully that will also instill some more confidence too

Apart from whats already been mentioned , i would think the first thing he needs to rectify is the number of marks his direct opponent is managing to pluck...ffs the ball must come to ground if out of position. I dont think was that evident vs ESS but it has been a concern this year:o

he hasn't been as flash since he knocked himself out in rd 2. 2011

last year jack did ok was averaging around 4 a game which is pretty good, what he needs is an inform vickers to take some pressure off of him i think at the moment he is just trying to carry the forward line too much and it's just not working.

saw the thread about jack and had to take a look.
in regards to hawks backline, getting better. before 2 weeks ago, of the 60 odd games they could have played together, gibbo and gilham had only played 15-20 together. if they keep them in, will be very good.

in regards to jack, i love the way he plays and his workrate, in my mind is very good. i think he falls into same basket buddy does. people see buddy kicks only 2-3 goals, and autoatically the full back has done an unvelieable job. doesnt take into account the tackles, the assists, the 20 odd touches.
now jack certainly doesnt match buddy in these areas, but the way jack competes against his opponents to create an opportunity for others goes completely unrecognised. as long as he keeps his workrate up, the goals will come, as they will for big buddy!!
would love to see an old style shootout between the two of them this week...with the hawks winning of course!! haha!!

i love the way the tigers are developing, love watching them play. hardwick has done a great job with them!

I think Jack is also a victim of not remembering how to lead. Constantly point to kick it long to the pocket makes life very difficult. RUN AND JUMP AT THE PILL JACK

Yes jack is a little off form...however I don't think he has really dropped too much. It's more the fact that we keep bombing it up high to him over and over again thinking he will take screamers every time. It seems Jack realises this and needs to do anything to try make a tough contest but reality is - he simply wont take them. Maybe once in a blue moon.

We need a new forward structure where we can kick to him on a lead or at least leave him one on one. The oppposition defenders tend to gang up on him and most of the time hes on 2 opponents or even 3!
If this continues, Miller or Vickery need to take advantage and dominate! and they simply arnt which lies the problem. Would also like to see more blocks for our gun players. It happens in the midfield but if we can get some good blocks to free Jack, he will regain confidence alot quicker

Watched the third quarter against Essendon again, Jack did some amazing tapping to set up scoring shots. This year and last year I've seen him perform so many goal assists, that's one of the bigger reasons his goals dropped compared to 2010. Other thing this year is that the game has changed, big forwards don't have the dominance they once used to unless they're playing bad sides (on the day).

Vickery back this week will be really interesting, looking forward to it.

Lets face it tigerheads, for a former Coleman Medallist, who is totally out of Coleman form atm, he aint to shabby seeing he is 4 of the lead in the Coleman this year. I would actually be outlaying some serious cash on him bagging it again this year, on the premise he is slowly getting back full movement from the ops he has had. Tipping when it happens he will open up a 15 goal lead within 4 weeks. ;)
