any chance of the saints going after the great man?

seen lots of rumours of other victorian clubs chasing him but no saints:thumbsd:

if so wat do you think we would have to give up in order to see him pull on the red, white and black?

would add pace and goal kicking ability to our midfield, not to mention another 4-5 brownlow medals:p

Realistically we couldn't afford him, but it's nice to dream about. I would give up Dal Santo and pick 9 for him at least, maybe something else as well just to sweeten the deal.

Getting him would involve way too much for one player. The old adage of putting all your eggs in one basket comes to mind.
I'd rather have 3 or 4 good players for the same money and not run the risk of losing all to an injury.

i would say montagna and first two picks that way we keeps our structure rather than losing a key player but if they asked for another lesser like aswell that wasn't amrmitage or allen i would do that

tottaly agree with you there.

but just imagine kosi to judd to rewoildt.

we can all dream:D

Eagles would demand Riewoldt + 1st round pick. I don't think they'd be interested in anything else from the Saints TBH. Given that I doubt Riewoldt would be willing to go Judd wont play for St.Kilda in 2008.

If judd wants to leave and wont sign a contract with WC, what drafts is he capable of going in? I faintly remember Sav Rocca went into the National draft in 2001-2002ish when Kangers picked him up. is this possible for judd to do the same?

At which point we would laugh in their faces. Judd is damn good, but he's not worth that.

As with Fevola, he'd cost us too much for too great a risk. Any trade involving picks would pretty much mean this year's draft is a write-off (barring some Westhoff-like late picks), and/or it would cost us at least two very good players for a single player, further weakening our depth.

He can nominate for the National draft or the Pre-season draft. If he nominated for the national he would go pick 1, no question. It would also mean he has less leverage on his contract if I understand it correctly. With the pre-season draft he can nominate details for his contract, so in the incredibly unlikely event he does go into a draft odds are it would be the pre-season.

I would say there is zero chance of judd coming to the saints. Will go to a club who can offer a top 5 pick. Not us.

Is Maguire (not re-signed yet) worth say no 3 pick from Carlton (imo yes) ?

Add X Clarke (not re-signed yet), our own no 9 pick and possibly Armitage or Gilbert as a young player with a lot of potential...

No, I doubt that we'll get him !

Anyway, once the immediate hype about this spectacular trade has calmed down, officials at every Melbourne club will need to have a good view at his medical condition - you don't want to bet your future on one player who may never be the same again !

We aren't a serious chance to get Judd. We don't have the cap space or trade bait. Especially considering his recent injuries we could really end up getting bitten on the arse if we trade a few of Maguire/Gilbert/X.Clarke/Goddard/Pick 9/Pick 27. Judd will be performing at 70% for the next few years at least. I don't want to risk destabilising the playing group for a half forward who plays 50 minutes a game and has to be rested every third week.

So you're suggesting we could trade our starting centre half back, a starting pacey midfielder/flanker, our 1st draft pick and possibly one of our young guns for a single player?

you should have quoted my entire posting -

Judd at his best would imo be worth that trade, but as nobody can guarantee that he will fully recover from his current injury / medical problem, I doubt that the St Kilda board (whoever is on there - I assume however that Butterss' position would improve if he could present the best player in the league - what a way to increase the $$$ on football...) would really look into that.

And they probably shouldn't, I agree. It would however be irresponsible not to at least look at your possibilities if a Chris Judd wants to come back to Melbourne, wouldn't you agree ?

In any event, I believe that Carlton and Melbourne will be offering much more for him...

The most we should offer for Judd is our 1st and 2nd pick, (pick 9 and pick26!!! If they agree to that then that's perfect. From a salary cap perspective, with Gehrig and Thomson retiring I assume we could easily fit him in.

If West Coast wanted more than that, then foeget it. We can use all of our picks on the National Draft and hopefully unearth our own Chris Judd.

I think the real thing stopping us is what we would have to give up to get him.

Along with our 1st rounder (pick 9), we would have to give up probably two established players under 24. West Coast would probably want Riewoldt, but St Kilda cannot trade players just signed (which rules out Riewoldt, Dal Santo, Koschitzke, S Fisher, Hudghton and Fiora).

Players like Gilbert, Armitage, Montagna, X Clarke, & Allen would probably be what they are looking for, and they would want two of them with the 9th pick. Would St Kilda consider sending X Clarke & Gilbert, or Armitage & Montagna, to Perth for Chris Judd? Remember his injury problems in the second half of the year, and the unique perspective St Kilda has on this kind of problem (Luke Ball).

Finally, in 2001 West Coast almost selected Graham Polak. I have it on good authority that there was no way Fremantle were going to select a midfielder with pick 4 (having just signed Peter Bell and Jeff Farmer), so the Dockers would have selected David Hale. St Kilda, pick 5, Chris Judd. Oh my.

Thats insane and you need a reality check. It may only be 1 first round pick as Carlton and Richmond could take him in the Pre Season

If Maguire goes to Richmond we should have a crack

My understanding is very similar, St.Kilda were sure that WC would select Polak as he was a local boy, dominating underage comps in WA. They were sure that the draft would go

PP #1 (from Freo) Hawthorn- Hodge or Ball
(Judd's shoulders had put them off- Ball's school commitments meant that Hodge was their man)
PP #2 St.Kilda- Hodge or Ball (whoever the Hawks didn't pick)
PP #3 West Coast- Polak
ND Pick #1- Freo- Sampi (another WA local)
ND Pick #2 St.Kilda- Judd

Very very smart by West Coast, I know a very well renowned head of recruiting who told me leading into that draft that Judd had suspect disposal & very suspect shoulders! I hope they get just compensation, it's never nice when a superstar player leaves & even worse when you get ripped off (Plugger's trade with the swans springs to mind!)

players just signed can be traded, that rule never came in.
