Judging Lance Armstrong's Return

[Selective Retention]

Since Armstrong has announced that the tour will be his last I was wondering how people judge his return.

Obviously it has been focussed on the TDF and landing a podium last year was a good effort.

What does he need to do this year to justify his return. Win? Podium? Top 10? Does an unbeatable champion in his day coming out of retirement and not reaching quite the same heights sully his reputation or is it just good for cycling regardless of his performance?

Depends on what his objectives were. When he originally announced his return to competitive cycling it was all about promoting his "Livestrong" charity. You'd have to rate his return as a success on those grounds.

If he's anything like John Farnham he's got a least another 2 comebacks to go

Probably one of the best comebacks I've seen in sport. To finish on the podium of the TDF shows what a giant of an athlete he is. Most comebacks fail miserably but his has definately been worth it.
