Smith reminds me of Aker. Great footballer- can't really question his on-field output. But I don't imagine he'd be all that popular around the club and it'll be hard to continually accommodate his antics when his form inevitably drops off.
And he ain't a bogan, he's an East Malvern Xavier lad who's capitalising on a savvy, self constructed image.
He's currently in career best form. He will need to maintain it for the team to tolerate him one would think.

JUH is just another waste of talent in the long annals of sporting history.

He may think it’s cool hanging around with bikies with their drugs and chicks but it will all change when he runs out of money after they leach it all off him. Then he will constantly owe them.

Before too long he will just be another broken ass back in the boondocks where he came from as another has been that could have been.

It appears the only people Smith is (deliberately) upsetting are sensitive, precious opposition supporters.

You could tell Bont didn't even give a shit and merely brought some humour into it. Meanwhile "neutrals" by and large are losing their minds.

Bonts response showed a very low level of interest after being asked directly by morning talk show hosts, but it's somehow been spun to "the club is livid". Many supporters of the club are pissed off, but I haven't seen anything to indicate the club gives the slightest shit.

That's what I'm saying. Bont was cool, composed, just a little bit cheeky. There is zero indication the club are in a fluster. The supporters though? Furious to the point of delirium.

Yeah, interesting dichotomy, but after considering all variables, my suspicion is it's because Smith is a campaigner.

Can your club now elevate a rookie a bit like a long term injured player?
Apparently not. He hasnt been placed on the LTI list (AFL restrictions) so we have to keep paying his salary and cant replace him. That may of course change for next year if he doesnt get back on track. AFL delisting on the cards apparently. That would mean even Gelong cant get him ;)

Yeah, if he hadn’t been doing an already planned live TV appearance and then been directly asked about it I don’t think that Bont (or anyone else at the club) would have even responded at all.

I just thought the whole thing was idk, strange? Like Geelong just beat Collingwood, Mooney didn’t say anything about the Dogs, nobody else was talking about anything to do with the Dogs, Geelong aren’t even playing Bulldogs for two weeks so Bailey’s comment just came out of nowhere to me. And from everything I know about it, our club treated Bailey really well while he was there and then when he wanted a trade, we worked with him and Geelong to work that out for him so I don’t understand where this bitterness and grudge he seems to have towards us even comes from 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don’t see him as a golf cheat though. Fair way to go to match Aker.

Caro on agenda setters tonight, questioned how his contract hasn't been breached by "conduct unbecoming". I'll be honest I normally don't agree with semantics or specific wording, or with Caro all the time. Although, she has a fair point.

What’s the conduct that’s unbecoming though? Posting harmlessly on SM whilst you’re on agreed personal leave with your employer?

Not sure how that wasn't used to give Balta a proper suspension either

I think what a lot of people don't quite get is that younger generations don't mind people 'being themselves' so much.

Young people generally aren't as "hung up" on what society expects them to be and to do.

It's for this reason the Crows throwing Rachele under the bus for giving bit of lip to Port fans was so stupid.

And it's why Hawthorn's young brigade are doing better than expected - they're comfortable being who they are with each other and they aren't lambasted for it - it's great for their internal culture.

It's the way forward and some clubs are going to find out the hard way.

Mooney was talking about the Dogs directly but he was referencing the different between playing for a smaller drawing club and a club that draws a bug crowd regularly.

Smith understood that's what he was getting at and played the part.

If the interview was with any other Geelong played, Mooney wouldn't have said it the way he said it.

good list management by the dogs only locking him in til end of 26.
Agree.

A Bulldog fan in here explained this pretty well some time back.

Story goes Dogs knew he was cooked and wanted out but knew if they offered nothing they would get nothing in return for a number 1 pick.

So they tried the old bluff by giving him two years to make it appear publicly that all was sweet in the hope someone would come along and offer more and they would at least get some kind of compensation.

I believe this story . Makes logical sense.

Yep good post

But being yourself is good when actually authentic.

JUH isn't being "himself".

He's playing make believe fantasy bikie/gangster.
Utter flog. He's a regular suburban bloke.

Young people do support people being themselves I agree.

But JUH ain't doing that. He's ****ing delusional.

Most gangster/bikies in Australia are just playing make believe from watching TV. Absolute frauds and that's where he is at unfortunately.

Even a broken (nauseating wind bag) clock is right twice a day.
Poor take for a Hawks fans.

Don't forget it was Caro that took the fight against the Bombers cheating.

She took a lot of abuse and heat for that and she was vindicated

So she deserves some respect.

Makes no sense at all.

His ego is too big, simple. Shat on the club that gave him a chance, that stuck by him when he broke Covid rules, was caught with coke, and acted liked a f wit a couple of times on field. Looked after him after he done his knee, and allowed him to go away on holiday instead of training/rehab. Deliberately withheld extending his contract to help Geelong get him on the cheap. Talked to the Cats behind our backs for a whole 18 months before he even left. Decided we were not big enough a club for his brand, and liked the idea of more money. Knew Geelong is a good fit, because if he gets caught partying to hard on the nose beers, Geelong will just claim it was planted on him or spiked. And as you said, he is starting to act up on the field even more. Amazed at how many Cats fans think shoving a football in someones face is "great". I thought the Cats were all about good culture?

I'm happy to see people who contribute poorly to culture shown the door, whether it is Stringer, Hunter, Dalhaus, Smith. The party boy types. Club is always bigger than the individual. Funny how many opposing fans and the media pot the Dogs culture, as if we should endorse the party culture, where the rest of the team act professional and dedicated to their roles. Why disrupt that by allowing bad influences to hang around? Strikes me as a club unafraid to make hard calls, than sugar coat bad behaviour like some clubs do.
Very strong post.

WB are doing very well at the moment, have happily potted them in the past and won’t change my mind on the umpiring issues, however I really want them to surge into the top 4 and strong flag discussions. I really like LB and his no ****s given attitude.

Right up until the minute he requested a trade - when you guys were still hoping he'd stay - your board was claiming Bailey was just a bit of a loveable rogue. He did some silly FIGJAM-y things but fundamentally a good bloke, he's just a bit of a different cat who lives life his own way.

Only after he wanted out did he magically turn into a horrible toxic culture-killer and selfish knobhead who nobody ever liked anyway.
So what your saying is that Bulldogs and Geelong supporters have now swapped attitudes and opinions.

Completely agree. Very much a player where you can take the good with the bad while it's going well; possibly more trouble than worth when it's not.
