Why AFL's rumour magnet Jamarra Ugle-Hagan faces the fight of his life
Jamarra Ugle‑Hagan generates more rumours than just about any other AFL player - and he isn't even on the pitch. With the goodwill that once circled him having evaporated, fans are fearing the worst.www.dailymail.co.uk
'On a notorious football fan website, there are no less than 65 forum pages dedicated to the 'scandals and rumours' surrounding one JUH.'
Hi all, notorious is good right?

I'm not saying that was co-written with AI, but it refers to the field as the "pitch".![]()

Bang on and it's extremely offensive to those of us who struggle.Absolutely no time for the grub. Self obsessed Gen Z on too much money, hanging out with dickheads, pulling mental health cards when it suits, doing wank off fitness regimes in Byron bay or wherever it was, and just showing total disregard for his opportunity and contract.
If this guy really had mental health issues then we’d not hear a word from him and he’d be working away quietly at his issues and getting back to full health.
As soon as this goose drops the MH card it’s an indictment on people actually dealing with it. Who has the opportunity in the real world to just swan around like he has at pubs, clubs, health facilities and throw his face all over social media?
The WB should just cut him loose and another club should put him on a rookie contract for 12 months to see how committed he really is.
I seriously hope that he doesn’t get sympathy from the media when he returns about how tough 2025 was…Bang on and it's extremely offensive to those of us who struggle.
He almost certainly will, he's untouchable.I seriously hope that he doesn’t get sympathy from the media when he returns about how tough 2025 was…
They could pay some more respect given half their AFL stories originate from here.![]()

I’ve known people who have had to take a career break etc because of mental health issuesAbsolutely no time for the grub. It’s disgusting. Mental health issues for the everyday person are so far and beyond what this kid is experiencing. He has deliberately exposed himself to social media by being completely cavalier with his behaviours and appearances.I’ve known people who have had to take a career break etc because of mental health issues
They haven’t been paid their full wage for months and months on end while failing to stick to even the lowest level of commitment their workplace could tolerate.
The idea you can take an indefinite break from work and earn $800k for your trouble while not even doing the bare minimum is entitlement on a level your average person cannot understand. Plenty of people have to tough it out and keep working because they have no other real option.
It’s great we’ve found a forward setup that works without him. It’d be nice to get compo but it’s not likely sadly. Best of luck to the next club that takes the punt.

Its physically impossible to be depressed/have mental health issues and parade yourself around on social media for all to see.
Someone who is struggling is reclusive as opposed to being boastful. Ive never heard of a boastful depressed human and thats kind of the issue with JUH so called struggles
You cant be boastful of your life and yet believe you are struggling. It simply doesnt match up
1000% agree with this style of scenario. I think bragging on social media is just a different kettle of fish though. I think that takes a level of confidence that depressed people dont haveMental health/depression and how people cope with it can manifest in many different ways.
A good friend of mine was very flashy. Tried to show off to the world he was living the high and fast life. No one saw the signs of what he was battling through behind the facade.
Took his own life and blind-sighted us all.

Quite a good point and not something I thought about in that he could just be puffing his chest. The aforementioned friend was very active on social media.
I think young blokes hold themselves to an idealised self image, and I could only imagine how difficult it would be so for someone who is so publicised like an AFL footballer (especially a good one at that). The immense pressure to carry yourself in a certain way so as not to look weak.
The stigma surrounding mental health has certainly improved a lot since when I was JUH's age but it's still there.
Animals don't beat their chest and puff themselves up when they're feeling fine. They do it when they're feeling threatened. I don't think humans are any different.
Quite a good point and not something I thought about in that he could just be puffing his chest.
I guess the aspect is you do see a guy like JUH have this insane amount of support around him and rejecting it too which makes it quite offputting too
Thanks for the perspective on the issue. The true first step in recovery for a lot of things (generalising here) is being able to not only ask for help but accept it.
It's one thing to acknowledge you have a problem. It's another thing to actually start taking actionable steps to try and address it.
It can take people (especially blokes) a LONG time before they can get to that first step. Some won't or feel they can't.
