This saga is an insult to so many people.

If it is mental health issues, then you have got the money to go and do proper rehab. So either do it; or don't call it mental health issues - that is disrespectful to a lot of people struggling out there.
This goes wildly understated I think.

Big difference between Harry McKay and JUH. McKay actively went to seek help, did it, came back and then spoke out and did it in a way that was respectful and honest, even when the football media were pathetic in their portrayal of him as a whole (lambasting the guy for playing VFL instead of AFL was atrocious behavioiur. It clearly helped him mentlaly to play infront of a smaller crowd) .

JUH hasnt sought help in any way.... and dont pretend this is a unknown element. Bulldogs have actively told us this truth already. If im the AFL/WB id reject his leave request until he puts in place a 100% outlined treatment plan. Until he does that he cant claim mental health as a reason

This isn't how mental health works. Rehab is for particular issues but there's no rehab for depression, anxiety etc. In many cases no amount of money or medication can fix an issue, although they can often help. If JUH has a genuine mental health issue he may have acted in a completely 'normal' way for the type of issue he has. If it's self inflicted (drugs) I have little sympathy.

It's common knowledge he is addicted to the gear though, isn't it?

You can do this, I have injured myself on annual leave, went to hospital and had medical evidence and I exchanged the remaining annual leave for sick leave and continued my holiday as I was unfit to return to work.
Yes, this is allowable in the Vic. government sector, I know of colleagues that have done the same thing.

We needed him away from the club. Hes currently too much of a distraction. And the bonus with this is itll stop the questions about his return to football. Provides clean air for the club and Marra

Fev was in a bottom team too.
I do agree with this but in fairness comparing anyone with probably the most mercurial and naturally talented FF since Ablett is unfair

Though maybe the argument is that unless you are exactly that then you are not worth the hassle with the drama you bring? Which is a super fair argument.

I genuinely do wish the best for Marra but this behaviour is juvenile and self destructive. A football club especially in the professional context would be one of the best places in the world to pull you out of a rut like this. If he can't do it with 43 blokes his age around him and two elite sporting organisations (WBD, AFL) as well as the AFLPA throwing resources at him to support him then I really do fear for what will become of him.

Fev liked a drink and a punt but he always turned up to training and did a heap of extras on his goal kicking.
for all the criticism he copped and the inglorious end, fev could seriously play and produced the goods. 2 coleman's, 3 all-australians, 3+ goals a game and a bees dick away from a century (yes different times). JUH nowhere near that.

If there's substance to these claims, sure, toss him.

Right now there's rumours and JUH smirking on a short video.

Smoke and fire and all that, but if you can terminate a contract on rumours and a tiktok then the clubs hold the whip hand.

AFLPA aren't the bad guys here, the player protections are in place for a reason. Eg the Pies have treated some players poorly, Mark Orval back in the day.

Looks like Footscray might be jammed between the league protecting its image, a predatory marketplace and an immature player, hate to see them get ripped off.

great comparison
both players pissed there careers away with stupidity and a rock star attude.
Never heard Juh talk about what football means to him, perhaps for him it's just a job.
And he quits.

He's been pretty open publicly about not liking football in the past. I had a feeling he may quit footy to try to become a pro boxer early in his career. Not sure it's a feasible option for him any more.

I don't fully understand how AFL player contracts work.

What's stopping say a Clayton Oliver who has a contract until the end of 2030 just not turning up for 5 years and getting paid and saying he doesn't feel up to it.

Pretty much what Beams did in the end

Think it just gets to the point where the club in conjunction with the AFL and players management work for an outcome where they pay out the contract

But yeah seems like the type of thing where the players might have too much power but it’s also tricky to navigate given the mental health angle that could very much come into play

Guess it’s just one of those things it’s another risk that gets taken on with long term deals

Just heard Caro say that JUH won't play this season but will be paid in full.

Then maybe at years end they will negotiate whether they pay him next year.

Geeze
Time and disposable income seems like the last thing he needs right now

Whatever is going on he needs to get the right people around him
