When was the last case of jumper swapping after a grand final?

I'm pretty sure some of the Hawks did it in 1991. I am probably wrong though.

Edit: I have a distinct memory of Dermot Brereton wearing an opposition clubs jumper during a medal presentation of some sort.

Ben Allan & Don Pyke 1991 GF, both best men at each others wedding is the last I can remember.

There may be more that do it today but do it post game.

I knew there was a reason I blocked out the rest of that memory. Didn't look good in it at all. :p

Yeah, it's been a while, but it's understandable that they don't do it anymore - I'd be pretty pissed off as a jumper sponsor if the team I supported decided they'd pull on the oppositions on the dias.

Good point didn't think of that :thumbsu:

i think the Socceroos nearly came to blows with each other in their fight to swap shirts with Maradona after a WC qualifier in '93.

Wrong sport perhaps, but i can't think of anything later in Aussie rules apart from that exhibition match last year.

I remember that - it's a nice touch. Although i'd love to see someone like McLynn from Hawthorn swap jumpers with Aaron Sandilands. That would be quality.

unfortunately i'd suggest that's the reason they don't do it anymore :(

wasn't there an edict from the AFL around about 5-6 seasons ago that players/clubs would get fined a couple of hundred bucks per player per quarter that a player was spotted with his socks down because the sponsors logo couldn't be seen when their socks were down.... i could've just dreamt that up and thought it was right ever since though.

Was mentioned at the time that all players got 2 jumpers so that is why the all swapped after the game.

Yeah, fair dinkum I didn't realize that had been done in Aussie Rules before? Thought it was just a Soccer thing. Also agree with the poster that mentioned Sponsorship rights, The winning team players have hats on there heads within 2.4 seconds of the Final Siren.

Yeah I find that annoying - I certainly wouldn't wear one.

i dunno when it stopped but if i won a premiership i wouldnt be giving my jumper away, thats just stupid
Every player has atleast one backup for every match of the year, so i wouldn't be suprised if they get 3 jumpers for the granny. Would look weird if someone gets two blood rules and has to come on in a high number jumper in a grand final, like harry taylor last year came out wearing 85 against melbourne.

they have that writen into the contract of the club that wins the flag. that the star player of the club must wear the sponsors hat after winning the gf

As a Magpies fan, I personally don't mind the jumper swapping tradition.

I look at the photographs of the presentations after the 1955, 1956, 1960, 1964 & 1966 Grand Finals, and it looks like Collingwood won!

If by Josh Hunt you mean Harry Taylor, and by 86 you mean 85 :D

89 State of Origin, he was in a South Australian jumper afterwards.

Correct. The snap with Lockett.

As for grand finals I can't remember anyone doing it after Daryl Baldock swapped with Des Tuddenham in 1966.
Probably that image we are familiar with is the reason they stopped?
If your going to hold the cup you should do it in your own jumper but can you imagine the jumper sponsors (probably rightly) going feral if this practice was still happening.
